Whoa! Slow down BOC, we've had enough rain for a day or so. We just got 1.6" in 1 1/2 hours. It came down so hard that my backyard drainage couldn't handle it and I now have a wet floor in the Depot. MOP TIME! JIM, do you see all this stuff on radar?

Just received an early birthday present. I have been summoned for jury duty the week of Sept 14. Never have figured out how their computer picks prospective jurors. This is my second time in ten years and I know many registered voters and others that have never been called. Oh well, it's my duty:rolleyes:. Just hope I don't get one of those long lasting or sequestered type of trials.

Chris: Around here, you are lucky to get your grass cut/weed wacked on a standard size job for less than $35. It's not that much different even with a contract, but it usually has other lawn care maintenance options.

Back to mopping!

Evenin' All...

Just got back from the hospital. The surgeon told my brother yesterday night that my Dad had a 20% chance of making it through the procedure today. Well...once again Dad beat the odds :) Came through with flying colors. It took a bit longer than expected and they had to use more dye so his kidneys were challenged. That means he will probably have to stay in the hosp for a couple more days, but we all can live with that!

Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers. They DO make a difference!

Sandy

Sandy That's good to hear!!:):)

we got a bunch of monsoonal things come through then a T'underin'boomer that monsooned huge then hailed then winded and left about 3" of rain on us--now we're just plain ol' muggy. Just about an hour ago a number of tornados touched down north of us in communities like Durham, Newmarket, near Sebringville---OY just a bunch:eek: Toronto and area are getting hammered right now---

You know it is muggy when you come out of your house first thing--interior temp 24C with humidity at 45%--outside is 25C--at 7:30 am--with humidity at 96% -----and the glasses fog up:eek::rolleyes:

Sandy, that's great news about your dad. He must be a tough old bird. :)

Chris, that's $35 a week and he comes every Monday. We've had enough rain and I've fertilized enough over the last two years that it needs a weekly mowing. He comes out in the fall and sucks up all the leaves, of which there are a heck of a lot. We can't burn them here so that saves a lot of effort. I guess he makes his money in the winter, when he's not doing anything. Still, his price seemed competitive, and he does a much better and neater job than most of the lawn services I've seen around here. It's him and his two sons, no illegal aliens. Who was it that said only illegal aliens will cut grass?

Rex, yeah, I watched that thing come over from Mississippi and hit you guys. Looked like a mean squall line. As soon as it headed towards us, it immediately evaporated. We got a grand total of nothing...again. Sounds like you have a little more than you really wanted but it would be nice if we got a little of it down our way. Jury duty...I haven't been summoned in Alabama yet so I don't know the procedures. At one time in California, all I had to do was send in my ID card to be excused. There's no defense lawyer in his right mind who was going to put a cop on jury. Then they changed the law so no one was exempt and I had to go sit around for eight hours, watching soap operas in the jury room, and finally be dismissed because no defense lawyer in his right mind would put a cop on the jury. I hope Alabama has more sense.

Jeffrey, you can count on at least one piece of back drop to go on backwards or upside down. It's an immutable law of model railroading and no amount of planning or checking everything three times will prevent it. ;)

BOC, we're supposed to be getting the rain and tornados. You're supposed to be getting polar bears or something. This global warmng thing has everything all screwed up. :D

Contrary to Rex's experience, no need for a mop here. All the remaining showers are going to bed for the night. We've got one last shot tomorrow and that'll be it for a week.

Good morning.

It's 74 and mostly clear. The high will be around 93 and there's a chance of rain.

Yesterday's weather was very wet! We had one thunderstorm after another moving through so just when it seemed it was over it all started right back up again. As a consequence I was able to put a lot of work in on the backdrop so the hardest part of it is behind me now. The background scene is up and it looks really good. Now I'm playing around with some foreground scenes, mostly structure photos, to see how they look against it. There's one at the end of this post. I won't be doing much work on the layout today as I've got an appointment to see the foot doc later today.

Hiya people,

The A/C man just left and the indoor temps should once again be significantly cooler than outside. Only had to pay the standard $60 Service Fee, labor and replacement parts were all covered under the home warranty contract.

Sandy, glad your dad got thru the surgery OK, I'll keep up the prayers. Larry is there any news on your MIL yet?

Jeff - The new backdrop is lookin' mighty good! Is the 3rd pic where you have the non-matching seam? If so, it doesn't look too bad; maybe an extra-tall tree and some clouds higher up could obscure the difference?

Rex - I saw you were right in the path of those wicked T-storm yesterday as I was looking at the Weather Channel radar. Too bad Jim couldn't get some of that rain. Good luck draining out the train room.

Well, it's time for me to head in to work now - CUL

Mornin' all!

Supposed to be a beautiful day around here today. Rode my bike to work and I'll be riding home to do some leather work on it this evening. I'm supposed to meet up with a group of riders tomorrow that all ride vintage bikes (mines not vintage yet, but it's out of production and it looks vintage) and I want to look my best ya know! Besides, I've been meaning to get this stuff done for a while now, and this is as good of an excuse as any I guess, right?

Oh well, Gotta run for now!

Prayers for those in need..........thats you and me both!

My MIL is not doing as well as we had hoped. They are taking her to surgery again this morning as she has some sort of an air leak in her stomach area. If they do nothing she has no chance and with this procedure there is still only a 50/50 chance with her liver problems. We should know something in a couple of hours. We can only hope and pray for the best of results because it is no longer in human hands. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

Larry, I can only hope with the rest of us that all will turn out ok for your MIL. Thoughts and prayers.

Sandy that is wonderful news.

Jeff: that background is looking good. I like the depth it adds.

Jim: Jury duty full week: It may have changed since we now have a different Circuit Clerk and I'm sure that all counties vary with procedures, but when I served before, you met in a court room for jury selection. When that jury was chosen, you moved to another court room for that selection, and so on for two courtrooms. After the morning selections, you were released and came back about 1:30pm to start the process again for two more courtrooms. If you weren't chosen in the afternoon, you went home and returned the next day. Each day was like this varying to when existing trials were over or until Friday morning when there were not any new trials starting and we were released . I wasn’t chosen until Wednesday afternoon for a trial and it was a liability suit for personal injury. Having a State Trooper in the family got me out of some of the worst trials, but a teacher friend got nailed for a two week trial. Being a former cop would probably help you with the criminal cases, but unlikely for other types :p :D.

Time to get back to what I was doing...if I can remember what that was:rolleyes:.

Thanks all for you continued prayers and thoughts. My MIL left this good earth to be with her heavenly father at 12:15PM this 21st day of August the year of 2009. They took her down to surgery at 11:10AM this morning and she deteriorated so quickly that the Doctors just sent her back up the the ICU area where she passed peacefully with her beloved family at her side.

Afternoon, Everyone.

Larry, I'm praying that your MIL pulls though if that's God's will.

Jeffrey, like I said in WPF, and Ken already picked up on, one tall, skinny tree would help disguise that misplaced panel.

Rex, it's raining here! Well, not exactly raining, but we do have a small shower passing through. All the good stuff is headed toward Montgomery. :( Get your mop out, though, looks like a slug is headed to wards you again. God grief, it sounds like the Alabama jury selection system is even worse than California. At least I only had to blow one day there. The problem with being a retired cop is that you never get selected for any criminal cases and the majority of personal injury cases (like the woman who is suing us because my daughter plowed into her) involve vehicle accidents, and no plaintiff's attorney wants me on one of those either. About the only thing I'd ever get chosen for would be some high excitement trial like a property line dispute. I hope they don't find me and I can fly under the radar. I've already spent way more time in court than I ever wanted to in my entire life.

Phillip, glad you're getting a chance to ride your bike now that things have cleared up there a bit. You'll have to take some pics of all you old outlaw bikers together. :)

Ken, sounds like your home warranty paid off. I have a home warranty but both times my A/C went out, it was because the capacitors blew because of near miss lightning strikes. Guess what's not covered in the warranty? We're lucky, though. Our A/C guy is the same firm, started by the father, and now run by the sons, that Dianna's family has used their whole lives and they are good and inexpensive. He even came out at 2:00 pm on Memorial Day to fix that last explosion at no extra charge for the holiday time. You can also trust that he's not trying to sell you a bill of goods. Not having A/C in Maryland can be pretty uncomfortable but it's really bad down here. The low was only 76 last night and it's always at least 90 by 9:00 in the morning. No matter how many windows you have open and how many fans you have running, you can never cool down the house so it it just gets warmer every day. I know that people lived in Alabama for 125 years before air conditioning so it's possible to do but I think we're too soft to take it now...or at least I am. :D

Oops, it already stopped raining while I was typing this. We had...let's see...a whopping eight hundredths of inch, according to my rain gauge. It's already back up to 85. Oh, well, at least there was no lightning close enough to blow up the A/C again. :D

Oh, Larry, I'm so sorry, you posted while I was posting. God wanted her to come home and she's now in a place of no more pain or suffering, waiting for all of us to join her. My sympathies to you, your wife, and her family and friends.

Larry, my condolences. Apparently her allotted time on this earth was used up. God rest her soul.

Jim - I was watching radar images of the rain clouds over your area on Intellicast, I could see a line of yellow heading towards Prattville - then it all turned green just before it got there! Something in your region seems to just swallow up moisture...?

I'm about to head home for the weekend. The family's leaving the beach in the early afternoon tomorrow and should be home around suppertime. No train time for me though: The Principal of the school where my almost-14yr-old daughter goes, called me last night and requested my assistance in setting up the school's computers. [I had specified computers as a 'personal talent' area last year when the volunteer sign-up sheet was being passed around.] So, hopefully it will be an uneventful series of software installations. Supposed to be a wet one around here according to the weatherguessers.

Jeff: that background is looking good. I like the depth it adds.
So do I. I was immediately impressed with it when I took it out of the boxes but when I looked at it in a test photo I was blown away. I'd recommend these to anybody who wants to spend the money for them. They're nearly $20 each and I bought three of them and will be getting a fourth as soon as I can.

Larry, may the good Lord give all of you strength and understanding in these times. Saying the final goodbye to loved ones is always a painful ordeal. but, it's and earthly pain and will ease. Remember the good things, the memories, those are always blessed moments.

Jeffrey, lookin' good!!! I may try them on a couple of areas of my layout if I can find some suitable.

Jim, I got tabbed for jury duty a couple of times. Once for a six-week murder trial. The perp had a previous manslaughter charge, he had copped a plea on that one. But, the DA here would not bargain the second time around. The guy got 60-life. We won't be seeing him for quite a while. The only way he'll be getting out of prison is in a box. He'll be about 90 when he's eligible for parole.

Well, supper's on the table and it's time to feed my tapeworm.

Bob
