I asked him if he was going to make a trip to the Bass Pro Shop or Cabela's to get the kid a fishing pole and tackle box. He thinks it might be a tad early for that. lol
Bob When Colton(my grandson) was three days old Gramps walked into the hospital with a Thomas Tank train set under the arm so it's never to early. Valerie just rolled her eyes when I walked in the room with the train set.

Bob, we have a Bass Pro in town. One of the guys just had a grandson and bought him a complete fly fishing outfit sized for about an eight year old. Planning ahead, I guess. :) Glad to hear Josef Mikel is doing well and has that nice head of hair. My kids were both like billiard balls until they were about one. My sympathy to Joe's daughter after 28 hours of labor. After what I just went through, I have an idea of how she felt.

Sandy, thanks. This has cleared up so fast that I can't believe that the combination of my bacterial prostatitis and the trauma from being hit by the baseball didn't combine to cause this clot. I've never seen the situation turn so fast unless it's the result of a healing injury. I think the Cipro cleared up the infection and time stopped the hematoma bleeding. I haven't had another urine culture, of course, but it's now as clear as water. Takes a big load off my mind and it's nice to actually feel normal again. Puts other minor problems in perspective.

Jeffrey, the picture in my mind of you getting an ether induced haircut gave me a good laugh. :)

Rex, we've had no rain to speak of here in about the past five days and it's been dang hot plus only going down into the high 70's at night. We usually get a good fog at night after a rain and I know you guys get even more since you're close to the river. Does make it a bit sticky at times.

I may have already told this story but the department installed three point NASCAR style seat restraints in our cars after it became almost impossible to use regular seat belts because of all the junk we carried on our duty belt. One night, about 0300, I was responding to burglary report way up in the north part of our county. I was the only deputy in the north area that night. I was crusing up 101 at about 75 and this guy in Mustang 5.0 blows past me at about 90. I was driving a marked unit with the reflective markings, light bar, and the whole shebang, so I don't know how he couldn't tell I was a cop. Well, that's what we call CofC (Contempt of Cop) and I was going to get this guy. I was driving a 1996 Chevy Caprice 9CI, which was about the fastest police car ever outside of a Mustang 5.0. Our helicopter was down but the 9CI was only about 5 mph slower than the 5.0 (145 mph vs 150 mph) and he didn't have a big lead on me. I had my car cranked up to 110 (no traffic at all on the freeway) and he was still pulling away from me. Now I was getting p*ssed so I got it up to just about 120. We started to get a light drizzle but did that stop me? Heck no! I hit one little depression in the road that had probably an inch of water. If you want to know the effects of hydroplaning, just ask me. I completely lost control of the car and ended up in the center divider with car wrapped completely around a light pole. I have no idea how that pole kept standing. I was covered in blood but in pain so I knew I wasn't dead yet. Luckily, the radio still worked so I could call dispatch for help. It took them 45 minutes to get me out using three Hurst tools and a tow truck. Turns out all the blood was from one head cut that took a few stiches to close and, except for feeling like I had been beaten with a club, I had no other serious injuries. If it hadn't been for that three point harness and air bags, there's no doubt in my mind I would have died that night. The car had a little less than 2,000 miles on it. The sheriff was a little bit unhappy with me when he saw me at the hospital. :D I learned two things that night. Don't let your emotions overrule your judgement and seat belts really will save your life. Oh, yeah, turned out this guy was driving a specially modified Shelby 5.0. The CHP helicopter clocked him at 165 MPH before they finally got him spiked about 50 miles up in the next county. I never had a chance to catch him no matter how fast I went. Young and dumb. :(

Chris, good to hear you're at least bringing in some dough on your side job. I'll be happy with the Sunday theme since I'm not quite ready for a marathon yet. I'll leave all the hard work to Jeffrey. :)

TD3 has indeed turned into Tropical Storm Bob. Way too far out to have any idea what he will really do but those of us Florida and the Southeast need to keep alert over the next week. The latest computer models want to bring him up to a Cat 2 by Thursday and have him plow right into the Virgin Islands.

Bob: Congrats to that! I became an uncle a couple weeks ago.

Just my sister being able to have a kid was a medical miracle, she has a rare genetic disorder. Even better the kid doesn't have it (I don't think). She got lucky, she probably had the kid about 5 minutes after walking into the hospital.

Martin and I just got back from one of those road trips one takes wherein you get good and lost and spend the day touring around----we found a few prototypical ideas for scenic layouts---such as these:

BTW: Congratulations Bob and Dan!!

Sunday's theme, "Avoid work at all cost Sunday!" If you get caught working you own everyone a cup of coffee and a Krispy Kreme:p!

Well if thats the case then I might as well fess up and leave my credit card on the table. This is one of those rare weekends when I have to pop into the office every few hours. I'm deploying an upgrade to one of the databases that I manage, and that can only be done when there is nobody on the system. IOW, if I ran this 36-hour process during the workweek, half the people in my group would be unable to do their jobs.

bOB - congrats to yer buddy on becoming a Grandad!

Jim - I must say, you have lived an Interesting Life! My father worked as a Steering/Handling systems engineer and knew the many ways a car could go out of control - he was adamant about seat belts even before they were being promoted by the Media. So I've been wearing them pretty much my whole life.

On the mrr front, I'm just continuing to fill out the way bills for my next op session.

Time to shoot off to the LHS to get the tyke a Thomas the Tank Engine set.

Joe isn't into trains. But, he'll go fishin' if someone just whispers the word.

I've got an extra Thomas the Train set, complete, if he wants it, I'll give it to him. I even have "doubles" of all of the other cars and accessories.

Time to eat some fresh cantaloupe. I'll be back.

Bob

BIG CONGRATS, GRANDPA BOB!
The first time I became a grandpa, I couldn't get used to being called that. Kind of made me feel REALLY OLD, but soon I got use to it and loved every minute of it. D: :)

Not me, Rex, a buddy. His first. I've got two, a boy and a girl. He dropped by earlier this evening. Brought me a handful of Marsh-Wheeling cigars. The better half is <sacasm/> REAL happy about that<\sarcasm>. I had to laugh at him. He's bouncing off the walls with pride. He's a hyper and goosey guy anyway, this just compounds it exponentially.

And the young'un does have a head of hair. He brought his digital camera with him with a few pics. looks nothing like his Grandpa, that's for sure. I'll pass along all of the congrats when I see him next. But the way Joe is acting, he'll have to come in for a landing first. lol

I guess that there were a few complications though. Momma and baby have to stay in the hospital for a couple of days. She had a hemorrhaging problem and the docs want to make sure all is well.

Meanwhile, on the home front. My neighbor bought a new vehicle with the "Cash for Clunkers" program. Get this, a new H3!!!! Brought it home this afternoon. He traded in his 2001 Expedition. The H3 is a nice vehicle, but I'd rather have my old 2007 H2 back. Gas mileage in that beast was ferocious!!!

I never did make it to Wal Mart to get some paint, eye shadow(for weathering), and some craft wire(for railing on a caboose and radio antenna on a couple of PRR diesels and cabooses). There's always tomorrow, I guess.

I've got to go to the garden and pick some more veggies(corn and green beans) for Angela to can/freeze tomorrow. And I want green beans, taters and sausage for supper. GOOD EATIN'!!! 'Specially with cornbread.

That garden is the best $100 I spent this year!!! It's LOADED!!! Even with the lack of timely rain it has done excellent. Th best we have done in recent years. But we do need some rain, watering is just not enough. And the tomatoes and peppers need some heat to develop. Onions are HUGE. We have a few that are as big as slo-pitch mush balls. Looks like I might have some onion rings. I doubt that they would be good sandwich fare. And the cabbage is as big as a medicine ball. I'll grab about 30 heads tomorrow for kraut. I hate makin' it, but I love eatin' it. Stinks to high heaven.

The grapes are even doing good this year. Might make me up some wine. I got a wine making kit for Christmas about 5 years ago and have never had enough grapes to do anything after the better half made jams and jellies. I will this year. The arbors are solid with grapes. Maybe the rabbit dung worked!!!

And I'll be grinding up some horseradish. My plants are 4 years old now and have more than filled their space. Time to dig up some of the old roots and take some of the young ones to grow up north, I guess.

My potatoes are about the only crop that didn't fare so well. I think they need a sandier soil. The red 'taters did OK, but not great. The white ones, well..... They could have done better. Kohlrabies did well though. I eat those like apples. They are OK cooked, better than turnips, but I like 'em raw.

Well, 'nuff for now. Time to go back to bed.

Bob

It's........
Avoid Work at All Cost Sunday!"
You may cook on the grill and Make beer runs but thats it! No mowing grass, washing cars, and no house work! If you get caught working you will be getting everyone a cup of coffee and Kripsy Kreme!

Anyone else want to work?:mad::confused:

Good Morning--

The high today will be up to 31C and around 60-70% humidity--All sun and a SMOG advisory is now in effect----

Eric's layout is coming together quite nicely. Got some more blue stuff to pick up and place around the area where the trestle is going to go;);)

Have a good one----:D:D:D

"Avoid Work at All Cost Sunday!" Don't jave to worry bout me workin today. Alissa my granddaughter is three and we is a goin to a BIG B-day party fer her. Relatives from both sides of the family so it should be a really great and fun time. Now all I has to do is git myself ready for church and then it will be close to party time.

G'morning gang!
Sorry Chris, but I have to was the cars today. It's been a few weeks, and they are filthy. I am not going to consider it being work though. The Mrs. wants a little sun, so she's gonna help me. With a helper in shorty shorts and a halter top, how can ya consider it work???:rolleyes: Might have to squirt her a time or two to keep he movin!!:D;)
boB Eye shadow for weathering??? (nice cover dude!):D
Jim Glad to hear you are improving. I must say, reading over your posts recently have caused me to wince and cross or uncross my legs a few times just imagining how you felt!!
Ken Don't worry about getting me a donut. Just make sure you have some Diet Coke in the fridge for the next run session!!:D

Which brings me to a question. If they can make diet soda, and now all these diet energy drinks, why can't they make diet Beer?? If they could make it taste like real beer, but have zero carbs and no sugar, why wouldn't it sell??
Or, is the light beer industry too big to allow something like that?

Finally, on the hobby front, my Walthers Valley Cement kit arrived yesterday. Wow is that one big kit!!! Must be 5 pounds of plastic in there!! And I'm planning on expanding the plant with a lot more silos and a bigger raw materials area and a huge yard! Not sure yet of the name on the plant. Part of me wants to make it a Lehigh Portland plant (there is one near here) or hang a sign on it that says "Phil McCracken Cement". ;)

Also got an email from Cartens yesterday. I submitted an article on how to build a CSX road slug from a GP30. It will be the Dremel Kitbash winner in the October RMC!!! Woohoo!!!
Here's a sneak peek!
40resized.jpg

I actually built 3 of them, one in the clubs paint scheme, one for a friend that got decorated in Chessie paint, plus the CSX unit!

catch y'all later!!!!!!!

It's Still considered work Karl! no matter what excusses you come up with! you owe me and the rest of the do nothings here, a donut and coffee! go see flo!

As for diet beer......64 cal. Miller! and I do believe there is a low carb bud?Haven't tasted them yet!!! I believe starving oneself to be able to have a regular beer is acceptable though! Before my wife, I lived on 2 Ham sandwiches and 6 pack Mich. beer everyday for 2 years! and maintained my avg. weight of 145#'s!

Hey, Chris. Is working on the layout work? My new trainroom just got finished on Thursday and I want to get the layout set back up and running.

I sure would hate to loose a "work" day on the layout, but I can't afford to build a layout and keep Rex and CJ in donuts!

Good morning.

It's 78 and sunny. The high will be around 93 and there's a chance for rain.

After my busy day Friday yesterday was my day of rest. That doesn't however mean that I did nothing. I finally collected up all the little packets of Dremel accessories I had laying around and consolidated them into one tool box. Cutoff wheels in one compartment, polishing disks in the next compartment, drill bits in the next, etc. I also took some time to plan out how I'm going to handle building the new backdrop. One thing I'm going to have to do is iron the prints. Yes, you read that correctly. The prints are rolled up so tightly that when they're unrolled they want to do nothing more than roll up again. So when I'm ready I'll take them down to my parent's place and use my mother's dress steamer press (3.5 feet long x 1.2 feet wide) on the no-steam setting to press them so they lay flat. It'll go pretty fast as I can lay a whole segment on the press and iron it flat in two steps. I'll have to cover the print with a terry towel to prevent it from sticking to the heated pads. This will be about 300 times faster than ironing them with a regular iron. I have 9 prints, 3 from Detail Associates which are 23" x 9" and 6 from Busch which are 38" x 14".

Chris, you keep eating all those donuts and the only work you will be doing is pulling your butt up outa that chair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D
I paid for a dozen donuts and coffees , thanks Chris, for the use of the card

Guess I better pay for a couple of dozen donuts and a gallon of coffee. I know Rex and CJ will be here soon.
