Hoo wee! Man, am I worn out! I've been working down at the parent's place all day. First, mowed the grass. Second, help fix a water leak, Third, had to do some work on the new tractor. Fourth, had to vacuum up lawn clippings and dump them on the burn pile.

Afternoon, everyone.

Thank, Sandy. It really was the distended bladder that was both increasing the number of clots and pushing them into the ureter. Because the clots were so large, they couldn't come out until I got enough pain meds that I was able to push them through. I still have blood in my urine but it now a light red compared looking like packed red cells two days ago. I'll be going to urologist for a cystoscopy, some that needs to be done but I'm looking forward to. :( The good thing, as Mikey said, is I'm now seeing blood in an otherwise normal urine stream. That's a big improvement over two days ago.

I'll be happy to pick up the tab for the fish fry although all I can eat will probably be about half a piece. I'm sure Chris , Jeffrey, and Rex will help with the rest. :D

Chris, it may be that the dye in dark colas makes the uric acid more sticky and promotes the formation of stones. It's kind of like grapefruit juice. Some people drink it all they lives without having a problems and others get stones after one or two glasses worth. Most of it is in your genetics, unfortunately, and their's not much you can do about that.

BOC, most the problems in Jefferson County came from a sewer construction project that was shot through with corruption, bribery, and outright thievery. By the time the people who were supposed to know what they were doing caught on, most of the county's cash was gone.

Andrew, I guess that doc was right about me not playing baseball. :( I'm out looking for a good wheelchair now.

Phillip, that was a cool performance. The Slovenian's are nation of artists and love coming up with this sort of thing.

I think the red light camera challenges will be overturned. They have been in every state where they reached the state supreme court. It was challenged immediately and upheld in California as long as they have the correct equipment. The ATS system is well proven and provides a very clear view of the driver's face and the plate. The only problem are states like Alabama that only have a rear plate, so you need two cameras per direction. Drivers in California tried all kinds of things including wearing big hats to obscure their face. They just amended the law so that any obvious attempt to obscure your face means the registered owner is the assumed driver. All those license plate gizmo's to obscure the plate also don't work, no matter how much the companies that make them tell you they do. I'm not a big proponent of more government intrusion but this is really no different they me sitting at the intersection and nailing you in person. I'll let you in on a little secret though. Only about half of those red light cameras actually work. The rest are fakes but they look like the real thing. The drivers don't know the real thing from the fake so they are more careful at each intersection. It saves the state about $15 million a year to have these fakes.

Ticket quotas have been a hot subject for years. While there's no quota on the books, it is expected that eight hours on the road will produce a certain amount of stops and warnings. Sometimes you fall under the expected number in a month because you had to work a couple of big accidents or crime scenes. The ones that get in trouble are the ones who under produce every month. If you're paid to be a traffic officer, that's what you should be doing, not spending time at Krispy Kreme. Most of the guys I've seen with problems like this were lazy and deserved to get suspended or terminated. OTOH, I'm not defending these little speed trap towns that give everyone going one mph over the limit a citation.

I'm all in favor of any seat belt violation citations. It used to be we could only give you a cite if we pulled you over for something else first and then the law was changed so we could pull you over for no seat belt. It may seem like just a way for the state to make more money but the real purpose is to decrease traffic injuries and deaths. In the three years after we were give authority cite for seat belt violations, the death rate from traffic accidents decreased by 19% and seat belt usage was about 95%. Compare that to Alabama, where the seat belt fine is only $10 ($76 in California) and rear seat passenger aren't required to wear a seat belt at all! Seat belt usage here averages about 30%. Guess which state has one of the highest per capita traffic deaths? If you ever worked a multi-casualty with people ejected all over the place, you'd be fully in favor of anything to increase seat belt usage.

Jeffrey, be careful working in all this heat. One of the things that can cause a bladder hematoma is excessive manual labor in high heat conditions. I wouldn't want you to have to go through what I'm going through.

Dan....... my state is pulling out the stops when it comes to tickets and doing Anything they can do to make revenue! Now cops can pull you over if they see you ain't wearing your seat belt as your driving by them!
Case in point here: http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/dpp/news/local/florida_highway_patrol_ticket_quota_081009
You tell me?

Chris: As of a couple months ago, you can also get pulled over here for not wearing a seat belt. And its anyone in the car. The nice thing about it, it is not the driver's fault if the other passengers are not wearing one from what I am told.

Seems to be the equivalent to the helmet laws for bikers, huh? (except Indiana doesn't have a helmet law............I wear one anyways. )

I'm glad jim's picking up the bill! Flo, please broil my Grouper with lemon and pepper and baked potato..........Mmmmmmmmm!

Uhh, Jim...just took a look at seatbelt laws nationwide and California fines are only $20, but look-out TEXAS at $200.
http://www.iihs.org/laws/SafetyBeltUse.aspx
Also, I understand that the driver is ticketed in Bama, if the front passenger is not wearing a seatbelt. Never understood why the backseat passengers don't have to  ...I mean, come-on...who wants a body flying into the back of your head and breaking your neck against an airbag  .

Louisiana just changed their seat belt laws. Not wearing your seat belt used to be a secondary offense, so they couldn't pull you over on that alone. Now it's a primary offense. First offense = $25. Second offense = $50. Third and subsequent offenses = $50 and court costs.

Rex, that table is misleading. The base state fine is $20. Any county or municipality can add their own fines, with some counties, like San Francisco, being $129. It was $76 in Sonoma County when I left in 2005 and they were talking about adding another $10 to it, so it all depends where you get nailed. I would really be in favor of a plan that would allow car owners and motorcycle owners not to have to wear safety belts or helmets, as long as they put up a cash bond or had an insurance policy that would pay for all the legal and medical costs of the driver and all passengers. Much as I hate to see people injured or killed because of their stupidity, that's their right as long as it doesn't injure me or I'm not stuck paying for their care with my tax dollars. All the studies have shown that the ones most likely not to wear seat belts or helmets are people who either don't have insurance or just the state minimums. Those are the ones we have to pay for and I want them to wear seat belts and helmets. If you can afford to pay for all your own care and can provide the insurance or cash bond, we should issue them a big yellow "D" for dumb sticker and let them take their chances.

There are several states, primarily in the South and Midwest, that don't require rear seat passengers to wear belts at all. Apparently these is an impenetrable force field in back seats that keep all passengers safe. Maybe we should all drive from the back seats.

Morning all from Ye Olde London Towne.

Chris, Jim: just wait until you lot get the next great traffic gizmo. The average speed camera. It snaps you as you enter a section of road, then its twin does the same as you exit. Your plates are recorded and the time stamp calculates the speed you were doing. Next thing is a ticket in the mail. Trouble is each camera has to be an 'enter' or an 'exit', and they are paired. That means if you change lanes you beat the system. Ahh, but with several of these along the road you don't know which is the enter and which is the exit. The result is here people are constantly changing lanes as they approach one. Probably causes more accidents than they prevent but they still rack up the revenue.

As for seatbelts, I think they should be optional. That way we remove the idiots that wouldn't wear them from the gene pool. No belt, no medical coverage, end of.

Jim: another great side effect of uric acid is a crystal build up in joints aka gout. I've noticed mine flares up more after I've had cola rather than alcohol. Strange.

Have a good one all, I'm off to Saturday's version of hell, B&Q ( like home depot with bigger idiots) to get the rest of the materials for the train shed.

Party's over. Trip got canceled. One of the guys got phone call about halfway to our destination.

I had dropped the better half at her Mom's in Ohio and us guys headed on north. Almost to Lansing, Michigan and a cell phone rings. Everyone started grabbing for their phones. Seems his daughter is making him a grandfather, his first. So we turned around and came home. I hope the baby is healthy and as ornery as its grandpa. Hopefully, I'll find out more this afternoon. She was still in labor at 1AM, the last word I received.

The better half is still in Ohio, I am debating on whether to leave her there for a week. But, she wants to come home on Sunday. I think I'll flip a coin. It's only a 1 1/2 hour drive, but I wonder how long it would take her to hitch hike?

Bob

Good morning.

It's 73 and partly cloudy. The high will be in the low 90's and there's a chance of rain.

I had a very busy day yesterday so I didn't have any time to work on taking down the old backdrop. It took several hours to mow my parent's yard. I was going to use their new mower to do it but the darn thing wouldn't start. The battery charge was too low. I put the charger on it then went and got Old Reliable, the old Peerless mower. Now this thing looks like an oversized MTD and is a real physical workout to use. The steering is stiff and the brakes are very hard, requiring a heavy foot. The shift mechanism is also quite stiff and you really have to be on top of your game to shift it quickly. All I have to really worry about is going from forward to reverse as it tends to hang up in forward. It has a hydro-matic transmission so going through the forward gears can be accomplished without a clutch. Thankfully the accelerator is very easy on the foot. I had been looking forward to using the new mower and ended up having to drive the tank instead. After that was done and the clippings left to dry in the sun I helped my father repair a leaking water line, moved a couple of rolls of wire fence, got the bath for the dogs ready, then had to see if I could get the new mower started. It's use is required to clear up the grass clippings. The darn thing still wouldn't start. So I had to take the air filter assembly apart and spray some starting fluid into the carb while I was cranking it over, an operation that almost requires me to have three arms. It started then I had to go through the interesting procedure of reassembling the air filter assembly while the thing is running. It took only 45 minutes to vacuum up the clippings but over an hour to dump them on the burn pile. After all that I was happy to just get back home. I have no idea what surprises may be in store for me today.

Lets see, If we know when she left, then deduct that time from your T.O.D. , give or take 5 minutes of so for you to actually expire, we'll have our answer!:eek::eek::rolleyes:

Morning, everyone.

Andrew, the UK has gone way overboard on cameras of almost every kind. I think this is what people worry about when they see red light cameras. Soon it will be speed cameras, stop sign cameras, and then surveillance cameras on every street corner. All of these not only erode our rights but the same money could be used to hire more police officers. Police officers can interact with the citizens and have a much better idea of what's going on on their beat than watching cameras. I like the idea of human police officers out there on the streets and not all this video stuff.

Although it sounds good, you just can't leave a person to die in the street because they were stupid. If that was the criteria, there wouldn't be very many people who ever made it to a hospital. Head injuries from being ejected from a vehicle or being in a motorcycle accident without a helmet are about the most expensive injuries to treat of all traumatic injuries. Like I said, if a person wants to exercise what they see as their rights, they have to not interfere with my rights. Unless you have a comprehensive insurance policy or are Bill Gates, the taxpayer is going to end up picking up the bill, which oftentimes costs millions over the years. Assuming we haven't yet reached the stage where we just come in and overdose you to get rid of you, your right to behave stupidly ends at my wallet.

Jeffrey, I don't know how you do it sometimes. I'd probably blow myself up trying some of the things you do with your tractors. Sounds like a good day to take it easy.

Bob, babies have a way of not wanting to follow a schedule. :) I hope the boy is strong and healthy. As for your wife, hitchhiking would probably not be your best option. :D

I'm feeling way better today. I went from almost pure blood in my urine to completely clear urine this morning. This has to be an injury process and not a disease process. We'll see what the urologist has to say next week.

Two interesting storms out in the Atlantic today. Tropical Storm Ana is well to the east of the Antilles and I think has too much dry air wrapped around her to ever be anything but a TS. Right behind her is Tropical Depression 3, which I think is already Tropical Storm Bill. He's developing about 200 miles south of Ana and is away from the dry air and Saharan dust layer that Ana has to contend with. Bill could become a hurricane by Thursday and possibly a major hurricane by Saturday. He has some eerie similarities to Andrew, including developing late, at a low latitude, and having another tropical storm in front of him to moisten up the atmosphere. Andrew developed into a hurricane on August 17, which is the latest date for the first Atlantic hurricane to develop. I don't think Bill is going to develop fast enough to become a hurricane by Tuesday but it will be in close. Ana will get the headlines for a while but I think Bill is the one that could be a real troublemaker. We'll know more in a couple of days. Meanwhile, it's just hot down here. This time next week could be very interesting.

One time I came close. I was trying to get that thing started with some ether when it back fired! All that ether in the air? Can you say 'BOOM'? Fortunately it was outdoors and I needed a haircut anyway. Taking it easy is just what I'm doing today. So far the most strenuous thing I've done is to go to town and get some sandwich essentials.

Muggy in T-town today. We got a little over an inch of rain yesterday, in a one hour storm; today the sun hits the wet ground. Is it a Swedish Sauna where you pull the shower cord over the hot rocks...well, that's describes our Summer weather when we get rain.

Jim, I remember all the *itching about personal rights back when they started coming out with seatbelt laws and the arguments I would get into about their benefit. I have been a believer ever since being in the USAF (60's) where they were required in all vehicles entering the base. After seeing many safety (gorey) films during Commanders Call, I was a believer. FYI: My Mother gets mad as hell at me when I make her buckle up. I always tell her that the car doesn't move until she snaps it together :D .

Chris: What was the theme for TODAY? I'm having a Senior moment :D .

I have never gotten a "picture" speeding ticket, but last Spring I got busted on a E-470 toll hwy for missing a toll. Sheesh. I realized I had missed an exit toll ($1.25) but had no idea what to do about it. Everyone told me that they would just let it slide which was fine and dandy until I got a bill in the mail for $70.00 for neglecting to pay a toll. In very fine print at the bottom of the notice was a line that read 'if you pay online in the next 7 days, you pay only $1.25. What a crock. Needless to say, I paid the $1.25.

Jim...so glad that you are feeling better. :D

I worked enough MVAs with motorcycles that I would never ride without a helmet. Treated one guy who had on a helmet but was wearing cutoffs and no shirt. Road rash almost killed him. Head to toe gravel-embedded flaying.

Hope everyone is having a great Saturday. It's 75 degrees here and is overcast and LOVELY!

Sandy

IT'S A BOY!!!!!!7# 9oz, 22" long and a head full of dark hair. They named him Josef(with an "F") Mikel(with a "K") With a head full of hair, he sure won't look like his Grandpa!!! I just got the call. Joe's daughter was in labor of 28 hours. That would suck. Why can't the baby just pop out when you get to the hospital? That would seem more normal to me. But, Joe did get to see the whipper-snapper be delivered. I'm sure that was a thrill for him.

I asked him if he was going to make a trip to the Bass Pro Shop or Cabela's to get the kid a fishing pole and tackle box. He thinks it might be a tad early for that. lol

Rex, I think today is "I should be fishin' Saturday." Well, it shoulda been, anyway. Adjusting the plan to go Monday. Momma will be here to hold the fort down and keep it safe from you "party animals".

I'm headed to Wal Mart for a rattle can of Krylon Satin Black paint. I've got an F7A shell to paint and all of my equipment is 6-hours away. It's a Bachmann Plus to be painted in PRR livery, single stripe with keystone. The decals arrived today. I made the mistake of buying a 'B" unit and lost the "A" unit to a higher bidder. I've been looking for weeks for an "A" unit and haven't been able to locate one. So, I'll just make my own.

See you guys after bit.

Bob
