Speaking of Birmingham, AL. .... I've been to the Pelham model train store a couple of times. ... I recall several years ago there was a train store in the country north of Birmingam. I think it was named Trafford. .... Also, I recall a place called Spiveys that burned down I heard. ... My family members are in Vestavia south of B'ham.
Here is a scene from my railroad. A Bulington Zephyr is crossing the Mrs. Hippy River. Garry in KY.
Darn good modeling in that scene, Garry. BTW: you anywhere near Providence/Madisonville or Owensboro? When I was a kid, I lived in Owensboro and then Providence before the folks moved to Bama country.
Forgot: Carey does loco repair/decoder installation for the Pelham (Oak Mountain Hobbies) hobby shop.
Ken, glad your extractions went well. Just don't take deep drags off of a smoke (don't remember if you smoked or not) or use a soda straw and you shouldn't have any dry socket problems. Oh yeah, keep your tongue out of the socket. LOL
It's 51°, and sunny this morning. Looks like another pleasant day is in store. The weather readers on TV keep telling us it's like late September, but the calendar says otherwise. Not quite time to get the hockey sweaters out of storage yet.
Today, we are "Day Tripping" to Southern Pennsylvania. We both decided that we needed to get out more, rather than hang out at home.
My transition of my layout from the mid 1960s to the mid 1980s is almost complete. I just have to pack away the '60s rolling stock. That's what I love about model railroading. Nothing is set in stone.
Gonna go and do a few 'honey do' and a few more 'honey buy' things today...I'm going to attempt to get a few things done for myself somewhere along the line as well, if'n that is permissable....Whistling That is if there is much money left that is..Confused
We continue with fall like temps with highs in the mid 70's. I guess we're heading to the upper 80's next week to remind us that it is indeed still summer!
I've been busy with being busy lately. Work and play have taken up much of my time. I've decided to forget about the nonsense of stripping all the wood trim in the house and just throw money at it! Meaning I'm just going to buy all new trim since a lot of the current wood is beat up. Of course that means we are going to replace all the hollow core doors with solid oak, six panel doors. That also means buying all new silver hardware to replace the current brass. It's really starting to look like I'm going to replace just about every surface in this house. I joked around yesterday about replacing the sheetrock too. Why not! I know the finished product will be worth the money and effort but it still hurts laying out that kind of cash. I'm not big on moving so all this improvement is for us, not for resale. Other than working on the house and working at work, I guess there's been very little play.
I glance at the train room as I walk by. That's the extent of that.
Just thought I'd stop in and give an update. I hope everyone is doing well.

No worries about the smoking Rex, I haven't puffed a cigarrette in over 30 years! Interestingly, when I got up this morning my gums were a little bit sore, but nothing compared to the tension headaches I get ~once a week; didn't even bother taking any Advil for it. However, I'm also staying away from any foods that require chewing for the next few days. Only applesauce, milk, and mash' taters until Saturday.

Decided I'd pick something obvious so there's no doubt whatsoever.
Made my escape from the hospital today. The ride home was uneventful. The fireworks started when I got here. I got down out of the van OK and got on my crutches and started up the driveway to the house. Just then one of the rocks in the driveway decided it didn't like me and rolled under the one of the crutches and threw me off balance and over backward I went. I got a real good look at the sky. Nice and blue with a cloud here and there. I was also quite helpless! So I told the van driver to go to the house and get a wheelchair that's in there. That was the easy part. He then had to pick me up under the shoulders so I get my good leg under leg under me and get to the chair. Not an easy task for a 65 year old man to lift a 250 lb man. Once he got me to the house I could get to my mothers old power chair (Hoveround wannabe). The next adventure involved getting on and off the toilet in my fathers bathroom. There's barely enough room for the chair in there. I manged that without incident. Getting out of that hospital gown and into some real clothes was interesting to say the least. I'll have to see if something I can grab or lean against can be put in my room so I can get into my clothes without doing the first seven steps of the ballet. The 'lay down and pull' routine works for most of getting the pants on but there's that point where I have to stand and pull them up the rest of the way. It's going to take some getting used to but I'll be able to adjust to it eventually.
I was going to say it's good to see you back on deck again but didn't think you'd be taking it so seriously. Got no doubt that you'll find the ways to adapt your lifestyle, can't see anyone with your inventiveness letting this stop you from doing what you want.
In northwest mts of Montana with forest fire smoke from Idaho and a orange, red sun. Montana has small fires so far this year, we needed the fires where they burned and rain put out fires the next day. On the train set, the new Bachman diesel loco is a failure. On the 2% slope pulling 6 cars the loco wheels spin out of control and the train rolled backwards out of control. Lucky no de-rails or crashes. Later returned it and finally read the reviews, a failure on slopes! Will check the reviews on everything I buy. Good luck on your recovery Frankendiesel. I know exactly how your doing, the scars on my knees are milestones of a feral life chasing a ball and a person on grassy fields! The left one still wears a support. You know I was sure the surgeon said 6 weeks to run again not 6 months!
Jeffrey - glad to hear that you're out of the hospital and maintaining your sense of humor. Hope your recovery continues on pace.
We're finally feeling some of the cooler air from the front that brought all the rain. Nice breeze and very pleasant this afternoon and evening. More rain to come but the break with cooler, drier air is welcome.
