Well once again my plans got hijacked for family priorities. Breakfast at the Waffle House with the family. The booths aren't big enough for seven so we took two booths. From there to Wal-Mart so my father could pick up some things for a family later today. Since I was ther I picked up some gauze pads and tape for what is supposed to be my right foot. Right now I'm on my old computer at my fathers place. The family barbeque isn't long off so it's better to remain where I am instead of going home and having to return in an hour. My most recent cable problem was fixed yesterday. The recent high winds had ripped the cable loose from the hook on the service pole so the cable was hanging low over the road where it comes across from the main pole. It was high enough for most vehicles to get under but if a high truck or RV had come through it would have gotten snagged. I called Suddenlink about it Thursday and they said it wouldn't be until Monday and I told them I didn't care what it took, I wanted it fixed by the end of the weekend. So they put it on an emergency ticket to be done as soon as possible. It was done yesterday. they had to change out that entire length of cable. I guess it was damaged. It had been up there a long time. I'm very satisfied with the work that was done.

More from malfunction Junction later.

Family barbecue is over with. Hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, sausage, ribs, potato salad (home made), corn, black-eye peas with jalapenos, three-bean salad, potato chips. The potato chips never got opened for some strange reason. It was a very nice family affair. Entertainment was 50's music from Sirius Satellite Radio. When it was over with the fish got the left overs. Not the chips though. I took my IHC Alco C629 down to show it to my great-nephew. To say he was utterly fascinated is an understatement! His attention was so centered on the loco you could have driven past him in a Sherman tank and he'd have never noticed.

Now I'm back home, gorged and tired. It's been a busy day. One thing I forgot about yesterday. While at the funeral home I dropped my Nikon camera (L20). It was off at the time. The impact broke the locking tab off the battery compartment door. A piece of masking tape made a great redneck style quick repair. Hey, it works. As far as I can tell the camera still performs like it's supposed to.

The video (below) is just trial runs of Caterpillar models mounted on 89'4" Walthers flat cars to see what they look like. They are only attached with blue tack. The D9T's have been partially dismantled as this is how photos show them being so delivered (normally on HTTX 60' flats). Interestingly the dozers I have seen in internet pics have appeared to have their tracks slightly overhanging the side edges of these 60' cars, whereas the 89'ers are about a foot narrower than the 60's and these D9T models are within or at least flush on the 89's. Since doing this vid I have come across 1 pic of a D10T (being the only one clearly identifiable as such and on a TTHX)(HTTX, TTHX, OTTX all appear to be similar, why the different identifiers I haven't as yet discovered). ritchiespecs.com gives these specs for the D9T,D10T and D11T.http://www.ritchiespecs.com/comparison?type=Mining&category=Crawler%20Tractor&count=3&mid_1=90531&mid_2=90532&mid_3=90530 and the only one that matches the deck width on an 89'4''(ITTX) is the D9T. The D10T which is 10'4" over the track width matches most closely the TTHX clearly identified in the pic I referred to

This is the only pic of dozers on flats where I've been able to identify the dozer model positively.

Good morning. It's 47°F with 80% humidity. The high will be 68°F with some clouds.

I'll be going to my fathers place in a few hours to help prepare breakfast for the family. So that'll be me, my father, my younger sister and her other half, my older niece and her son and whatever other family members show up.

Not surprisingly no layout work was done yesterday. Maybe I'll have time to do some today. But I wouldn't bet on it.

And if the photo below is any indication the Nikon seems to have survived it's recent trip to the concrete.

Hi Jeff, looks to me as though your name needs to be added to, E.G. "Running Bear" also known as "Bearing Up", you've certainly been carrying quite a load lately.

Once things have calmed down and you're able to gather your thoughts etc together, I'd like to know what video progam/software you're using to put your vids on here.

And I hope I don't end up paying a big price for it. My health isn't the greatest at the best of times. I have partial paralysis and several major health issues and complications from a couple of past health issues including meningitis to deal with. I wouldn't want to wish this on anybody. Well maybe a few people in DC.

I just record them with my Nikon L20 camera then upload them to Photobucket. Can't get any simpler than that.

Good morning folks.

I played with trains this morning! I know that doesn't sound like a big deal but I haven't run the trains in a month. Of course the layout had to welcome me with a no power. The throttle turned on but nothing! I ended up disconnecting the wires to the throttle and subbed a short piece directly to the rails. I had power but only in one block. Then I reconnected the wires and disconnected the wires to the block switches. After reconnecting those wires the whole layout came alive. I also realized how dirty the tracks can become after no running. I cleaned all the track an everything works just fine. I guess the layout was mad at me!

I received my Rivarossi, CNW, eight car streamlined passenger train. I'm realizing that everything people say they upgrade with these cars has to be done other than body mounted couplers. Thankfully, that has been done so far. I now need to decide whether to replace just the wheels or the entire trucks. I'd prefer to replace the entire truck but can't find anything suitable so far. Then I need to add longer couplers since the current ones are little too closely connected. You can hardly see a gap on straight track! Then they need added weight since they are light as a feather. I suppose I should have just bought Walthers cars but these will give me some modeling time rather than just plop them on the layout. Besides, they cost me $65 for all eight cars. I could only buy two Walthers if I was lucky for that amount.

It feels good to run the trains again. Now I have to attend my nephews birthday party and then decide where to drink beer while some football game is on!:D

Have a good day everyone.

I have had to replace wheels and couplers on the Walthers cars also. The older Walthers cars also require the user to install the hand rails and grab irons, and it is necessary to apply names or numbers to the cars. Not exactly pure RTR.

Got the breakfast thing taken care of this morning. Had a crowd of eight. I showed my great nephew another one of my locos. An FP7. He was absolutely nuts about it. From there I went grocery shopping. Now I'm home feeling a bit worse for the wear.

I just saw my nephew who ran the trains on Christmas. I guess he asks every other day if he can come to my house and play trains. My sister in law tells him that I'm working. He specifically asked her to send me a message asking what day I DON'T work. I think I may have to invite him over. After all, it was my Uncle who let me run his trains when I was little. Maybe we'll have a model railroader on our hands?

That's what they call "paying it forwards". We need to encourage young'uns as much as possible.

I'll have to try the direct upload to Photobucket. I've been using Windows movie maker to join the short vids together and then uploading the result to Photobucket, then onto the forum. When I replay it back from the forum, the 2 that I've done so far, always look jerky. Comments from others that viewed my first one have said it was smooth, so maybe it's just some glitch that's only appearing on my computer 'cause I'm viewing a link through another link. Dunno

Ravens got it, 34-31. Where were you when the lights went out?
*
Well it's that time again. I gotta call it a night. It's been a busy day here and I'm wiped out. See y'all tomorrow.

The Ravens did it, in spite of the power failure. It has been a long day. Everyone have a good evening.
