Rub it in Z28!!! I did when I lived in the Valley of the Sun..........Mesa, AZ for six years back in the eighties!:D

Shoveling sunshine is a really hard job but somebody's got to do it!!:p

Wow! I just fixed my brand new GP7. :D

I bought two new N scale bachmann (union pacific) GP7's with DCC installed. My first ever DCC equipped locomotives. One of them worked......and one was dead :(. So I got the itty-bitty shell off without breaking anything.....yay! Then I soaked up a bunch of excess oil and grease that got on the pickup contacts and decoder/frame contacts. Now she works every time! I've had pretty good luck repairing a few these micro locomotives in this, my first year getting to know the little buggers. I refuse to be intimidated any longer by little baby trains. :p

You da man!!! Amazing how something so little can be so intimidating. I've done four decoder installs on my N scale locos and am getting ready to do my fifth. I still have a great degree of respect for them, though.;)

Good evening. Quick drive-by. Bad windstorm downed trees and knocked out the power 2:45 this am. The power was out fifteen hours, just restored with the past thirty minutes. Be back later.

I think Jeffrey might have got hammered by the storm......last night I saw a sizable line of storms headed across the south and midwest on the NWS radar. He usually has checked in by now.

Mike
Indeed we did get slammed! You have no idea how bad. Trees and power lines were down all over. Power went out here at 2:45 this morning and didn't come back on until about 5:30 this evening. I had a doctor appointment at 1:30 this afternoon. I left at 12:30 pm so I'd have plenty of time to pick my way through past the fallen trees and other debris. I got there at 1:20. Trip normally takes about 10 minutes.

Welcome back! Glad you're still in one piece.
I kind of had to pick up the pieces as I went along ...

Went to see the doc today about the results of my cardiac stress test. Everything's good. Hearts in good shape, cholesterol is under 90.

Things were a real mess this morning. Trees and power lines down everywhere. The fire depts really had their hands full helping to clear trees off the roads and off the lines. I'm kinda glad I retired. I'd have a hard time doing that kind of work anymore. Hope we don't see another storm like that soon. Looks like a cold one tonight. Low of 30°F with an average 10 mph northwest wind coming off the lake. I wouldn't want to have to be outside tonight. That cold stuff is for the kids.

Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Good evening for Cold Central Calif,
Today was fairly decent at around 60°F but it's now 34°F with a fair amount of moisture and quite chilly.

Per the weather station, they had a special Winter warning. See if you can understand it, I sure can't! I'm not sure just what good that kind of advisory is??
>A special weather statement is issued for hazards that have not yet reached warning or advisory criteria, or for hazards that do not have a specific advisory of their own.<

Say Mike,
Glad you had the magic touch and got the loco running again. To much oil/grease can deffinitely cause problems.

Jeffery,
Glad to hear your doing Ok, high winds can cause a lot of damage alright. So by picking up the pieces I assume you meant branches too large to just run over. It must have been a mess.

Black Z,
You got it rough there alright. The night before last here it was down to 28°F, last night was down to 30°F and I imagine tonight it will be about 30°F again.

Nothing on the schedule today except working on the layout a bit and watching some movies I recorded.

Had dinner with my father last night. A simple meal of chili and rice.

Vans battery seems to do OK when I leave the battery disconnected during long periods of non-use. That indicates there's something in wiring that's draining the battery or there could be a problem with the alternators diodes perhaps. I'll have to have it checked when I can.

man its only 62* but the sun didnt explode or aliens show up or the earth sling into cold space so i guess its gonna be a good day :D

Well, I had dinner with my father tonight. Chicken pie, home fries, green beans, corn. Pretty good dinner. When I got home I took the ground cable off the vans battery and I heard a slight click from the firewall. I put it back on and there it was again. I did it several more times trying to locate it but some moron up the road is shooting off fireworks and driving the neighborhood dogs nuts. So I can't get an exact location on the noise. It's coming from the general area where the windshield motor, voltage regulator and a few other things are located. I do know it's not the alternators diodes causing a drain. I drove it for several miles then checked the temp of the alternator casing. It was only slightly warmer than the mounting bracket which was cool to the touch. I double checked it with a probe to be sure since I can only feel a little heat. I can pick up a hot pot and have blisters on my hands and hardly feel a thing. Maybe tomorrow I can locate where the noise is coming from. Could be the voltage regulator locked in the on position? Or maybe the auto return on the wiper motor is acting up?

Didn't get much done today, the muscles and joints protested the work I was doing this past week. Hope I get some rest tonight, as I still have a few things that must be finished.

The cold temps are back with a vengeance!

Good Night

if it was the regulator, the alternator would be warm to the touch a few minutes after connecting the battery cable. I remember the older Dodges have an ignition/starter relay on the firewall that gives trouble. I think it has several wires going to it that pish on, and one that is screwed on.

I'll have to check that but I think that's on the drivers side. The sound I'm hearing is on the passenger side.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
