Good Morning

Kinda late this morning..high of 44F expected....some sun, some cloud...the usual

Got all kinds of stuff done yesterday..then heard the news..talk about shock....

If you look closely, you will probably see that Life Like Century shares a lot of common designs with the 1970's AHM GP18.
I don't know anything about a Life-Like version. This one is from IHC (Mehano). The drive is similar to early Athearn models I've worked on and the body shares some attributes with some early Bachmann and Athearn models.

Yes Barry, we were all shocked and saddened by yesterdays horrific news. Unfortunately too many young people today are getting subtle and not so subtle messages from some of our so-called leaders, that if your life is not going well it's ok to blame others and lash out in destructive ways.

The mail carriers van is in the parking lot outside. He is bringing me two packages today, any moment now. One is a brand new bachmann spectrum N scale Dash 8-40C locomotive, union pacific, sent to me as a christmas present from a good friend fellow model RR enthusiast....who also installed a digitrax decoder and detail parts into the new six axle, sixteen cylinder beast.

The other package contains twelve new peco turnouts I ordered from a certain vendor near baltimore maryland.

Good morning. It's 66° with 90% humidity. It'll be cloudy with a small chance of rain. The high will be 75°.

Today I plan to work on some freight cars I received in the mail yesterday. There appears to be about three dozen. There were four locos packed in with them. An IHC C628, a Model Power F2A and two Bachmann F9A's with pancake motors. After cleaning and servicing them I have three of them running. The fourth, a Bachmann F9A has a motor that's a hopeless piece of junk. That and some body damage it has would make it a good candidate for an abandoned loco.

There are four 34' hoppers I've taken an immediate interest in. Three are Athearn (PRR 220558, B&O 233507, Virginian 9502), the fourth is Tyco (Erie 4065). I'm also looking at an Athearn 62' tanks car (consolidated gas supply corp GATX 94378).

That's all for now.

The stuff I got yesterday is quite old, mostly Tyco, Bachmann, Athearn, AHM and Life-Like. There's one item from Model Power, an F2A loco.

One of the cars I'm working on today.

I've got one of those too Jeff, and a yellow San Angelo Tank Car Line (which is missing a hazzardous goods triangle). Here they are behind SF RSD-15's 9821 & 9822 on the club layout. I had another of the CGSC cars which got cannibalised for spares and then sold at a swap meet (silly decision, could have been used as a static trackside)

Good afternoon from Cold, Cloudy Overcast Coarsegold,
It was about 34* this morning but the Sun was out for a bit then went and hid! It's now about 38* out and very Overcast and Cold.

Today is my 67th Birthday and I'm definitely going to work on the layout building a few more switches I hope. I was just thinking there is almost no reason I couldn't build a Left hand & Right hand curved switch at about the same time and possibly even the Left hand straight switch too!? That would sure speed things up and I have two templates of each switch on a board so why not build two of each at a time as I'm sure I'll use them in short order. For that matter I'm going to need five switches to complete the Whiskey siding and tie that into the mine switch as well as extent the line to traverse Amalgamate Hill around to the second mine and then past Five Oaks. Actually I also need two more switches there to continue the line also.

Building switches, while a bit more involved that just laying rail really isn't that hard of a thing to do for those that might be interested.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable day and weekend.

Good Morning! from Tipton IN.

Say Bill,
This is really a neat shot too, I really enjoy the trestle and especially the track speeder, that's pretty neat.

Actually, I always had a fantsy of building an HO gauge rail inspection car with an early model T body and something like an N scale motor to it.

Say Jeffrey is that something you might have some thoughts on? I know you work mostly in HO but wondered if you might know of a similar type of operating car? I have the motor and drive mechanism form an old Bachmann Hand Car that could be used but it might stick up a little high but maybe it could be a load in the bed of an early pickup truck.

Definitely a novelty but something cute too! IMHO

That might look good at that. Problem #1, I don't have an old pickup. Only pickup as such that I have a Chevy S10 tucked away in a box somewhere.
