Good afternoon. It's 36° with 100% humidity. The high is supposed to be 42° but I don't think we're gonna make it. Low tonight will be 32°.

Had an eye exam to go to this morning and I'm just getting to where I can see the text good. Fifteen inch monitor ain't cutting it. Don't have that problem with the //e as it's hooked up to a flat screen TV and the characters are 5/8th's of an inch tall. Too bad it's not internet capable. I received two floppy disks today. Mystery House, a text/graphics game similar to the old MS-DOS game Sleuth. The other is an Apple IIe Diagnostics disk. My //e checks out with flying colors. First order of business was to make copies of them. That gave me the chance to see if the Lobo/Apple drive was up to the task. It performed brilliantly. Also received a box containing a 10-pack of double sided, double density floppy disks. They're formatted for 360k IBM but it's easy to reformat them to Applesoft DOS 3.3.

Nothing else going on today.

It's snowing lightly here.....a couple inches on the ground. Headed out to walmart now to get out of the house awhile. I kinda like driving/drifting my toyota 4wd in the snow. It has the stock 3.4 liter sixty degree V6 four cam 24 valve engine........makes nice noises. The famous Mclaren F1 GT has a sixty degree V12......so I figure mine is a half size version of that.

Good evening guys,
It was a very cold morning and the temp is now down to 31°F WW says a local a bit lower than I'm at is 37.3°F and Snow tonight, the interesting thing is that the Humidity is only 61%? Tomorrow is supposed to be 38 °F and cloudy. Earlier they were calling for snow tomorrow as well. It should be interesting to see what happens. The temp is up to down to 36.6 °F and it's feeling quite chilly. Time to practice some mind control, don't focus on feeling the cold but rather the warmth of your blood flowing through your veins and arteries.

Yesterday night I worked on my C & S West layout and got some of the problems corrected where I got careless Gandy Dancing and derailments were taking place. To resolve one problem I had to replace one complete point rail, [the actual point rail side as well as half the Y section of the point rail], everything works just fine now, an empty Old Time Log car will sail through the three curved turnouts when given a brisk push so it seems as though everything is corrected. I even backed a short train of a Grasse River Logging caboose, three empty Old time MDC Log cars pushed by an MDC shay through the three turnouts with out incident! Hoorah - Hoorah! Now just to test this trackage out with my other loco's which I think should work fine and I ready to continue the mail line on to the Amalgamate switch and then to the run around of the mountain. Things are getting very interesting now as things are starting to take shape.

Take care and stay warm!

Say Mike: A dual Overhead cam, four valves per cylinder engine is really a lot of fun alright. I have a Mitsubishi Eclipse with a similar a Four Cylinder dual OHC/ four Valves per cylinder engine with a turbo charger and I get more than enough power out of it. It's front wheel drive where your Toyota is real wheel drive and drifting can be fun, but be cautious.

Oh, and this is a long shot, I meant to ask, are you related to a Dale Day that used to live in Woodland Hills or Tarazana, Calif? Both town are out toward the West end the San Ferando Valley which is West of the main Los Angeles area of Calif. Sometimes it a small world!

David: Good to hear you got the track problems corrected.

My eyes are still smarting a bit from the exam this morning but at least there's no longer a halo around the on screen text. It's nice to know that my eyes are in good shape. There's very little damage from my diabetes. One amusing thing, a few minutes after my father dropped me off at the eye clinic a woman came in with her young daughter in tow. I found out a little later she was six. Anyway the kid looked around and her gaze locked on me, her face lit up and she pulled on her mothers arm and yelled 'Look mommy, it's one of the men from "Duck dynasty"!'. I didn't know if that was good or bad. My hair and beard are a bit longer and bushier than usual. Turns out they're both avid fans of the show.

I got those ten IBM diskettes reformatted for Applesoft DOS 3.3. I formatted both sides so that gives me the equivalent of twenty disks. The Lobo/Apple drive is working great! It's set up on slot 7 as drive #1 with the old Franklin drive as #2.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Good evening. It's cloudy, windy, and 75. By Sunday, it will be freezing, covered with ice, and 30.
Our club is holding an open house this weekend, and the only way the weather could be worse is if tornadoes join the ice, snow, and wind this weekend. Murphy really loves that train club...
Anyway, I took a brief video of one of my trains while I was testing it for proper operation for the open house. Here's a link, I took the video with my phone, so it isn't as good as it could be:

Howdy .... Freezing rain so far has not been too bad, and we still have power. ...

Jeff ..... Duck Dynasty! .... It's a good show. I'm not a big fan of any TV shows, but that one is OK. Are you signing autographs?

Good morning from the frozen tundra.

Thank you to all active duty and veterans for watching over us while we sleep.

It's -9 today! I have to ring the salvation army bell this afternoon after work outside of a grocery store. Now, the stand is right inside the first set of doors, but the doors are open constantly due to the nature of the business. Usually you're pretty cold after an hour of ringing in normal temps. Today I shall freeze my coupler off!

Have a great day!

Good Morning:

Terry, thanks for remembering Pearl Harbor Day. Corey, try and stay warm this afternoon.

Here in Jersey, it's in the 30s. This morning's 33° at 0700 was exactly 30° colder than yesterday at the same time. The sun is trying to break through the cloud cover.

There is not much on my calendar today, but I think I will find time for the layout.

Enjoy your weekend.

Joe

Corey - guess where all that cold air is coming from........guess it will be a good week to mess around on the layout.

Good afternoon. It's 32° and cloudy with 99% humidity. The high will be 38° and feel like 34°.

Got up this morning to fin that we were pretty much without communications out here. Cable TV worked OK but internet was out and land line phone service was spotty at best. Cell phone service was OK. Internet is back up and running but still having some problems. Land line phone now appears to be all right. No plans set in stone today. I may work on Oliver's adventure later. That depends on what else happens.

Good evening. It's cloudy and 50. Our open house for today went better than we expected, considering the weather. We had 92 "customers", which could have been a single person or a family (of which there were several). The only incident was a relatively major one, in which a brand new ES44DC fell off the upper level of the layout, taking a Genesis F unit and several passenger cars with it onto the concrete floor. Disciplinary action will be decided pending outcome of drug tests. I don't know about y'all, but I'm glad it wasn't me. Have you tried peeing into those tiny HO scale cups?

Been pretty quiet in here I see. Our internet and phone service went down about four hours ago. Cable TV was fine but everything else other than electricity was out until about twenty minutes ago not counting a tiny four minute window that allowed me to get a post into a thread on the Model Railroader forum. Other than that I copied some disks on the //e, backups mostly. I also got in a Starfleet1 mission.

Ouch!.....Maybe time for a guardrail or catch fence? Sounds like a long fall to the floor......crunch!

Where the incident occurred should not be a problem like this, though obviously it happened. It is 6 feet off the floor, which should warrant fall protection, but there is a level below it, with buildings, track, etc. It derailed, was pushed by a trailing unit off that level, where it fell onto a lower level, bounced off that, and in mid-bounce, caught a passing passenger train on that level, then all that equipment got tangled up and fell off that level, which should have been wide enough, with the track far enough back from the edge to not normally need any fall protection. It was a one in a million shot.

For today's highly detailed models any fall is a long fall. Gone are the days of the Roco/Atlas and Athearn blue box thick shelled locos. These days you look at it the wrong way and something breaks. My old F3's can hit the floor and leave a mark on it. They're metal. Don't have great detail though.

Murphy lives!

The casualties include NS 8896 (Interstate Railroad heritage ES44) and SOU 4412 (F7B).
