Good late afternoon or is early evening?,
Good to see everyone down a Flo's today. Oh, say Francine - my favorite waitress - could I get some hot coffee and maybe a slice of Peach Pie, if you have any? You know what though, I kind of did myself in working on a water leak in a awkward position today and I'm rather hungry so to begin with how about a turkey pot pie. That sounds great! Maybe then some Peach Pie later on?
It's now 6:37Pm, lets see what WW has to say for the Coarsegold weather? It's 65.8 °F going for a low of 46 °F and the Hu-mid-ity is 43%.
To morrow is suppose to be 63 °F under partly cloudy skys.
As I was telling Francine, I finally got around to tackling the leaky incoming water line outside the back door of my home. At times it seemed to seal itself off but then it would start to leak again. I figured it had to do with the clamps around the Black Vinal pipe and the inverted 'T' fitting and sure enough that's where the minor leak but bad enough leak was at at. I just couldn't remember how far down I burried it. Fortunately it was only about 12" down but about 10" from the cement walk leading to the back door. Of course there is other exposed plumbing there for a cold water faucet so it was a bit cramped as well as the fact the well I had dug before to work on other plumbing issue was half full of water.
So after shutting the Water Well Pump off and relieving the water pressure in the line and kneeling down I managed to get most of the standing water bailed out enough to see the the top two clamps on the verticle incoming line from the Well. The nut on top Stainless clamp was just fine and I could snug-it up real easy, the nut on the clamp about 3" below it was badly rusted in place it seemed, evidently not stainless steel, so I didn't try and mess with it. On the lower line connections of the inverted 'T' I was able to take up on both clamps fairly easily and was hoping that would solve my problem as it looks like quite a job to cut the clamp bands even with a dremel and cut off wheels due to it's position and then it seems there was a 5th inline clamp as my Dad and I extended the line down back many years back. So that made two clamps I couldn't tighten up and couldn't see an easy way to remove them to put on new clamps as I have two ready and waiting.
So I was hoping that what I did by tightening up the three other clamps might solve the leak problem and headed down to the Water Well to restart it and came back up and kept a watch on the water level in the hole and unfortunately it seemed like it was still leaking! Oh, great what now. Sometimes it pays to just review my thinking and the answer came to me. I don't have to remove the old clamps, just put a new clamp along side of it and snug it down which should solve the problem/s. Look for the easy way of doing things!!
On the the C & S West RR, last night I worked a bit more figuring how I was gong to handle the the Whiskey Switch passing siding and mainline where they are going to again tie into the single track coming off a right curve and after playing with several Fast Track templates** I printed up and covered with clear packaging tape I found I just couldn't get two Left hand number 5 straight switches to fit as I previously planned so I had to once again use two Left hand, 30*/21* curved turnouts to fit in and it looks like they should work fine to extend the line over to the mine siding and continue the main line around Amalgamate Hill and over the second mine on it's far side and then above and behind the town of Five Oaks.
The Central Valley Branch line tie strips I'm using seem to be very nice to work with as I can use a few spikes on either side of various eared ties to hold them in place and move them fairly easily and re-spike them as needed to get them laided as desired and then spike the rail down in pregauged tie plates which are very precisely molded on each tie. I do use my three point gauges but I'm not sure it's really necessary.
**I need to print a retraction to what I said once before about the Fast Tracks Templates being too small. I found I had a setting on my printer set to print at a reduced size and hence the reduction in track width! So it was my error, not Fast Tracks as the new templates printed up just fine and the rail spacing is very precise. I just made sure there was no correction to the size the templates were printed at. **
Say Francine, I guess I'm going to pass of the Peach Pie tonight but maybe tomorrow if I make it in?
Oh, Say Jeffrey. Glad to hear things are progressing so smoothly for you. I'm sure it felt great to be able to walk around the Dr's. office on your two legs again. Keep up the good work, I'm sure you'll be glad to get back to your layout once again.
Take care Budd
