As you opened the email and replied to it , you had better do a full antivirus scan. By replying you have confirmed that yours is a valid address. I would cancel it and obtain a new one.

It was addressed to me by first and last name as well as street address. The ip address of the sender matches that of my isp, and the reply to email is that of my isp's security division.
We'll see what they say in the morning about it, as I forwarded the email back to my isp's abuse email address.
Gee, you don't suppose some idiot machine misinterpreted my downloading new operating systems to both computers yesterday as a denial of service attack, do you?

Thanks, Garry!

Because some of you are in Alabama, I'll post this photo I found while surfing the internet. It's in Birmingham.

The picture must have been taken in the mid-1950s from the condition of the buildings at Terminal Station.
I still get upset that they tore down the station and made a parking lot out of it.

Yes, that is upsetting. In fact, it is upsetting how the government put the passenger trains out of business while building the highways and airports the way they did. There is no way passenger trains can compete with government funded competition. Our family used to do a lot of traveling by train in the 1950's.

I have never heard of an ISP demanding any type of action like that. My honest assessment is that this is a scam. I can pretty much guarantee you that I could come up with your real name, IP address, physical address, etc., in a few minutes and I am hardly a tech guy. What they probably do not have is a credit card # or such, and this is a way to trick you out of that. Your ISP's business is providing security, not yours. If, on the remote chance that this is in fact actually from your ISP, I would ask them how much they intend to pay you for performing security tasks that they are supposed to be providing. Not that I would respond to or click any of those links in the Email you posted earlier. Just don't do that- EVER. Seriously.
I did forward the entire email to my ISP (abuse@att), with the comment that I was going to take zero action on this matter, since the Apple computers in my home are incapable of being infected by the worm as was claimed, and their data must be in error. We'll see what happens after they open for business today. If it really was my ISP, they should be falling over themselves explaining what they were trying to accomplish. If it wasn't them, they will have the email with full headers and ip addresses to take action against whoever sent it.

Oh, the fun of it all!
I got something similar once, forwarded it to my ISP and never heard of it again........nor did I get any more of those emails!

Really, your ISP requires the computer to be taken to a "reputable shop" for repairs or else?? What if you do your own repairs? Or like me, have a kid (OK, he's not a kid, he's 28) who is a geek by trade? Bullfeathers!

I do all my own repairs as well, and even am the club's webmaster, so I do have some knowledge of computers. I haven't heard anything from att yet, though the day is still young. We'll see.
In the meantime, it's clear and 33.

Good Morning:

There was frost on the rooftops in my neighborhood this morning, as well as a temperature of 35°. It has since warmed to 41°. It will be a good day to finish up the leftover yard work.

I began dismantling a portion of my layout yesterday. I suspect that my "gremlins" are in fact warped members of my bench work. I used commercially available dimensional lumber to support 2" foam, and glued the foam to 1x2" risers which were glued to the L girders. Now there are subtle changes in the surface, which are just uneven enough to cause problems. Fortunately, my layout is "modular" enough that I can salvage all but one section. Now all I need is motivation!

Terry, I believe someone is either scamming you or "pranking" you. As others have advised, be cautious.

Have a great day!

Joe

Good morning. It's 57° with 89% humidity. The high will be 82° and feel like 85°.

Nailed another of Mickey's relatives under the kitchen cabinet this morning in one of the ever dependable cheese baited snap traps. The glue traps are clean.

Today I'll most likely be ironing out some bugs in part two of Native Fury. I'm thinking about what I'm going to do in part three. The character has so far found some of the pieces of the Indian artifact he's looking for but there are still some others that have to be located included the prized ceremonial headdress.

Been having a recurring problem with this computer the last couple of weeks. On startup it's developing a habit of reverting to it's defaulte CMOS values. It's the same thing every time so I'm pretty certain I need to replace the CMOS battery. It's only been in there for over ten years.

Hiya gang!!

Joe, fair warning, there's a front coming your way,,,,,,,,got really dark here,,,snowed a bit,,then vanished, now the suns out!!

Might be one of the Looosiannna clippers like Jeffrey's car was trapped in!!;)

Woodstove is cleaned , kindling and wood added,,, just need a spark to get it rolling LATER!! (kittys are anxious, they LOVE the woodstove) For now, it's time to give the basement its weekly cleaning , then I have a Tsunami to install!! :D

I've got the bugs in part two pretty much ironed out. The map below is the basic layout of the game field. Yellow areas are the road. Green areas are yards/forest/etc. The blue areas are the first rooms of structures. The numbers are the starting line numbers of each area shown. This is nowhere near all the map. Only about one-sixth as most of the rooms of the structures and additional parts of the yards and such aren't shown. It's just to give you an understanding of how the area is laid out.

Good afternoon all, It's a comfortable 78.3 °F with Humidity at 23% and the low for tonight of 61 °F.

Not too much going on here so nothing new to report.

So Jeffrey: What with the Cadillac patrol car with the 442 hood and air scoops and side exhaust vents?? It looks like it's at your location near the lake?

Hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning.

That was my car from July 1999 to Sept 2010. 3.1L bored and modified to 3.3L and overcranked with a 3.3 crankshaft. Lots of power and torque. It had the gas mileage to match. Despite the Cadillac medallion it was a Buick Century. What's with the lightbar? And did it work? Yes the lightbar really worked and I used it quite a bit to help clear the roads when I was responding to a fire call. The car was frequently confused with the local city police units when seen from certain angles (the city cars were light blue Ford Crown Vics) so the hood scoops were added to help people tell them apart easier. I got many a speeder to slow down just by them seeing me and on at least one occasion stopped a police chase by simply pulling up to a stop sign at the highway. The really funny thing was one morning when I'd had a hard day on my paper route (200 miles a day, five days a week) and I pulled off the road and backed into a pasture drive to grab a nap. About half an hour later there's a state cop knocking on my window and asking me to move to another location. I was ruining his business!

One of the things I worked on today. An old Apple disk drive. Yes, it's solid black. I'm getting it to run fairly well but can't get it to track as tightly as it needs to. I need to get the read/write speed set. I have no diag software so it goes on the back burner for now.

A couple of years ago, I remodeled a car that ran a stop sign, and the rental car provided was a silver Dodge Charger. I returned the car a couple of days later, and asked for a different car. People were slowing down to 5 mph under the speed limit and obeying all traffic laws scrupulously when I drove it. It just happened to be identical to out local unmarked police cruisers.

Oh, I haven't heard a word from my ISP (either branch) since yesterday.I guess I have an answer, of a sort, though some response would be nice.

I didn't get much more accomplished today than I've already posted so I won't bore you by posting it again. I did however make one slight change to part two of Native Fury. The character can now find a hole in the fence around Mr Addams' garden and get in. Trouble is once he's in there he has to get away from a very determined triffid. What, you ask is a triffid? It's a tall, mobile, carnivorous and highly venomous plant that's fully capable of hunting down any animal or person it detects. Don't worry. It's fictitious as well. It exists in a few novels, some TV series and a couple of movies that I know of and now it exists in a private game written in a nearly dead computer language on a computer that's more than half my age and I ain't exactly a spring chicken. Well enough humor for one day.

It's time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

That is interesting and quite a nice ride/drive too! The way it was parked and being in amongst the pines it looked like it was parked at your place. As far as comparing the Cadillac with a Buick I don't think there was much of any difference other than maybe the grill which your car seems to resemble the Buick as I recall and the hood ornament although I never knew buick to have hood scoops but I really wasn't paying too much attention at that time.

Rather a funny experience with the state trouper. LoL

As far as your old Apple floppy drives I surprised that you can even find old disketts for them but I do still have some I think from my days with the Commadore 128.

As far it tracking right, I think what you need is a program to align the heads.

Say Terry, In a prior post you mentioned you had [at&t] (my way to show disdain for them) ! You may not hear from them as their business practices are less than equitable.

I have a friend who is also with [at&t] and recently caught a virus. He had previously purchased a plan that he pays for monthly, through at&t whereby they were supposed to repair any problems he might come up with for no additional charge.

Now listen to this. My friend told me of the virus he evidently picked-up and when he called at&t tech support he was told the plan he had purchased didn't cover the type of repairs that would be required and wanted him to pay an additional fee for them to remove it! He said No and then called a different # and talked with a different tech who told him it was no problem and they went ahead and fixed his issue.

Point being that there are some unscroupulous individuals working for at&t, so beware.

Maybe the employees of Terry's ISP aren't paid enough and have to do a bit of "moonlighting". Something like Jeffrey's state trooper.
