Good morning. It's 65° and mostly cloudy. The high will be 78° and it will be partly cloudy later today. The wind is from the SSE at 8 mph.

Nothing much planned for today. I may get a start on ballasting the new turnout and adjoining straight track sometime during the day. I have to dig the jar of ballast out of the closet first and that can sometimes be like an archaeological expedition. The deeper I dig the more 'lost' things I find. One day I even found my army discharge papers and my high school diploma.

Two Atlas 70's era GP40's with Bachmann GP40 shells.

Well I hunted through the closet and gathered together everything I'll need for the ballasting of the turnout and the straight track it connects to. Now I just need the energy to do it. For anyone else it would be no problem to ballast a twenty inch long section of track. my problem is getting under the layout, removing the drop-out section then coming to a standing position on one leg and that leg has a tricky knee. Hopefully I won't end up wrecking something or getting hurt in the process. I try to keep details, structures and such close to the access hole to a minimum. However there are three bill boards, a fence, a couple of small buildings and a water tower nearby. The buildings are old and not worth much but the bill boards are a different matter. Those were a special gift and I would like to have them around as long as possible. They're incorporated into the scenery and would be difficult to move. So here's hoping I don't flatten them.

I got the ballasting done and I'm aching in several separate and very distinct places. Now I need to let the glue dry. Sometime tomorrow I'll go back in and clean those two track sections then GLEAM them then I'll be done with it.

Oh yeah, I didn't smash, damage or knock over anything. I did however hit my head on a beam but not hard enough to do anything other than get my undivided attention.

The glue on the turnout has dried enough that I was able to vacuum up the loose ballast. In the photo the ballast looks uneven but in actuality the embankment is somewhat steep and the ground near the track is rough and rises up here and there. Sometime tomorrow I'll get back in there IF my back isn't hurting too badly and clean the track the GLEAM it.

Well my back is hurting bad right between the shoulder blades so I'm going to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

You're a bit late this morning Bill.

Good morning. It's 64° with some clouds and fog. The high will be 79° and it will be mostly cloudy. There's a 10% chance of rain.

Sometime today I'll be cleaning the newly installed and ballasted pieces of track on the east side of the layout. Afterward I'll GLEAM them and that area will be done. Other than that all that needs to be done is packing out the trash.

Good morning folks

It was 52 F as I headed out this morning. Our high today will be 61 F with a slight chance of showers.

It has been busy. On Friday we attended a NCAA Division 3 Volleyball Tournament match. We saw Juniata College defeat Cabrini College. In the evening we watched a couple more matches on video feed. Saturday we cleaned up the front yard and began putting some outdoor stuff away for the winter. Later we did the biweekly restocking of the cupboards.

Yesterday my daughter attended two volleyball club try-outs. We were on the way home from one and got a call for an offer to play for the Regional team. We are still waiting to hear from the other club. Since she got the one offer she will not do a try-out tonight as planned. She will do one more on Tuesday night. The offer she got is from a team that is in the middle of road in talent. She is trying to decide if it is better to play for a lesser team or a better team. With the lesser team she will get more playing time and more instruction. With the stronger team she may not get much playing time. Right now she is leaning toward the weaker team because of the chance to get extra instruction and that they are playing the tournaments she wants.

Last night we watched the video feed of Juniata College (ranked No 8) and Eastern University (ranked No 4) battle for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship and trip to the Elite 8. The match lived up to the hype. Eastern won 3-1. Eastern won the fourth set 36-34. They also came back from in the final set from a 17-24 deficient to win 26-24.

Tonight my son’s Boy Scout Troop has their Fall Court of Honor. They will be awarding over 90 merit badges and 11 rank advancements. My son is line to get his Life Scout and 5 merit badges.

Still no work on the trains. I did, however, clear out some of the junk that had accumulated around the layout.

I hope everybody has a good day.

I don't know how much they're worth but that's what I intend on using as replacements the next time I have to replace any of my Bachmann #4 turnouts.

Had to go to town today to get prescriptions filled and to get some things from Wal-Mart. While I was waiting at the pharmacy I chanced to meet up with the chief of the New Llano fire dept. He was telling me there's this set of old blueprints at the New Llano Town Hall that I simply must see. They were for a huge shopping mall that was to be built where a couple of small hotels and a Waffle House now sit along with some other smaller properties. They had no idea where these blueprints came from or who had them drawn up. He started telling me how the mall would have laid out and I just started laughing. The more he talked about it the more I laughed. He asked me what was so funny and I told him my father designed that back in the early 70's. He was the one who filed the blueprints there. There was a whole set. Floor plan, schematics, electrical components required (all above code), materials to be used, load bearing strengths, everything. Obviously it was never built, for several reasons. The company fronting the money went bankrupt and then the owner of the company died. So there was no money coming from the company and his personal funds couldn't be touched. A contract was being drawn up with the government then the worst thing that could happen happened. All government funding was frozen. Watergate was in full swing. So the plans ended up being abandoned and that's why it's in the Town Hall with no name to match it to. They had been wondering for many years where that came from. Even the former mayors that were still alive didn't know. Today the mystery was solved. Now one funny little thing, every time someone argued that a mall had never been planned for the area they trot out those old blueprints. Argument snubbed!

I got all but one of my meds refilled. That one isn't too important, just the one for my prostate condition. Got a call from my father that he needed to be picked at the local auto shop so I went and took care of that. He's still having trouble with the brakes on his RV an d he told them to find the problem and fix it. I stayed at my parents place afterward and found that my free gifts for being selected a Life Member for the History Channel Club had come in. There's quite a pile of 'em too. A credentials portfolio, an LCD travel alarm clock, key chain tag, a guide to historic America, a nice little display book to keep my American history collector's coins in, a nice little reading light that shorts out as soon as it's clipped to a book. I'll figure out how to fix that eventually. A pack of History Channel Club Life Member playing cards, the US constitution and the Bill of Rights in handy pamphlet form, A nice looking walnut trimmed pen and a nice magnifying glass that does a better job than the one I've been using. There's also a Civil War Officers sword letter opener. Last on the list is a magazine holder that when turned around looks like a three volume set of books. It's made to hold History Channel magazines but Walthers catalog will fit in it just as well.

I stayed around for dinner, which I cooked. My cooking skills are still top notch. Pork chops, home fries, green beans, cream corn and for dessert blueberry pie.

I did get the new pieces of track cleaned and GLEAMed and I got the trash packed out.

Good morning folks

It was 61 F when I headed out this morning. Our high will be 69 F with rain coming.

Last night was my son’s Boy Scout troop’s Fall Court of Honor. Overall the troop gave out 98 Merit Badges, 11 rank advancements, and 2 Scuba BSA Certifications. The troop has around 30 scouts. My son received merit badges for First Aid, Camping, Aviation, Fingerprinting, and Landscape Architecture. He now has 24 merit badges. He also received his patch for earning Life Scout rank. He is now the youngest current Life Scout in the troop at 13.

We have more or less decided that my daughter should take the offer she has for volleyball club. We feel that she can get the most out of it compared to what the other clubs are offering. We are trying to figure out whether she should go to another try-out tonight or not.

Trains are taking a backseat until volleyball try-outs are finished. So maybe later this week?

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning. It's 72° and cloudy. The high is supposed to make it to 80° and there's a 50% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

Nothing on the schedule for today. I'm still paying for all that I did yesterday. Hopefully today will be quiet.

9 weeks and 1 day, that's how long I've been living in a hotel.

Hopefully I will be going back home soon. They want to start moving everyone back to their home terminal and have everyone back by Thanksgiving. How much truth is there to that? I don't know.

Last weekend, my mom and I went to Emmetsburg, IA to go see BJ Thomas in concert. I think that was the best concert that I've been to ever. The guy has a good sence of humor.

Not sure what I want to do today, I'll find something eventually. Have a good day everyone.

Good morning. 67° and cloudy. The high is projected to be 76°. There's a 20% chance of rain early changing to 40% before noon and tapering off to 10% after 5 pm.

Yesterday afternoon we were treated to a very nasty line of thunderstorms coming across Texas and crossed into Louisiana about 5:30 pm. I don't know how much rain we got but it sounded like a lot and the thunder, well, that was the first time in a long while that I heard continuous unbroken thunder for over an hour. Lightning was so frequent I could heve seen my way around outside without a flashlight with no problem at all. As the sun isn't up yet I haven't looked outside to see what it's like. Judging from what I was hearing last night it's probably a mess.

Good morning folks

It was 56 F when I hit the dreary roads this morning. Our high will be 61 F with more rain.

Last night was the last of the volleyball club try-outs for my daughter. She accepted the offer she had. She will be playing on an under 16 Regional team this year. Regional teams are the clubs top teams in their age brackets. Only a few clubs still have National teams that travel all over the country. They are few and far in between due the high cost of travel. Regional teams play mostly weekend tournaments with some travel involved. We know that we will be traveling to Lancaster, Baltimore, and State College. There are a couple of tournaments that the locations have not been announced yet. Practice starts in December which is perfect for her since her finger will be out of the splint and she will have no restrictions.

Nothing else happening last night.

Tonight we have Cub Scouts.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Went to my parents place for dinner today. Tacos! I had six. That's somewhat light for me. Dinner guests included my niece and her husband.

Storm last night dumped an inch and a half of rain on us according to the rain gauge. My father drove home from work in the thick of it. He was glad he was driving a big heavy Marquis. The wind was giving lots of the smaller vehicles a hard time and there were a lot of trucks pulled over waiting for the storm to pass. I wouldn't have wanted to be out in that! My van gets pushed around a bit by wind sheers and it doesn't require much imagination to figure what last nights winds would do. Add to that it's flaky wiper motor and you have a couple of very good reasons not to drive in the rain.
