David, the powers that be decided our club railroad should be constructed on a Homasote subroadbed. It now resembles a roller coaster on a good day, and when it's really damp, trains won't even stay on the rails.
Wow Terry,
Thanks for the info and taking the time to bring this to my attention!
I would assume your club layout is inside and doesn't get exposed to the eliments too much either?
Bill is using 1/2" thick Homasote, is that the same as your club used?
If so I'm thinking Bill needs to be fore warned as that's not what he wants or needs especially being that he intends to use it for his layout afterwards.
Your fast reply is appreciated,
David
Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Yes, 1/2" Homasote, in a heated/air conditioned building. Somewhere I've even got a video of my 2-10-4 wobbling over it. The ends of it wick up moisture and expand, raising them. Up and over, then back down, maybe (or maybe not) back onto the track.
Say Terry,
Thanks again for the fast reply.
I passed the info on to Bill who was glad to get it. I told him that possibly using a shellac or lacquer spray to seal the surface might be a good idea and he seemed to think so too!
So thanks again for the info!
David
Good morning...
Good Morning ! from Tipton IN.
Good morning. It's 66 and cloudy. The high will be 79 with a 40+% chance of thunderstorms throughout the day.
Hopefully I don't have a project that requires I work on it outside today. Radar shows a very ugly looking line of thunderstorms coming across central Texas moving fast toward Louisiana. I saw a lot of yellow, orange and red in there indicating heavy rain. There's really nothing much to work on today so I'll probably just clean up some areas and give the track a wipe down.
I'm feeling better than I was yesterday so that's a plus. The container flat I worked on yesterday is in good shape but the containers are the old 24' truck trailer bodies. I don't believe anybody uses those anymore. Maybe I'll just make a 40' container to go on there.
Good morning folks.
It's been busy around here with little to no time for modeling. I haven't even been on the forums much. Just enough to peak in and see what's going on.
I received my Christmas present to myself in the mail yesterday. I bid on and won a Lionel nutcracker on ebay. Last year I bid on one and lost it at $85. This year I bid up to $90 and got it for $52!

I think the $18 shipping stopped most people from bidding. I just figured that in to the price I was willing to pay. Merry Christmas to Me!
I think I'm going to attempt to remove the factory painted lettering on my Bachmann steamers. I have new CNW decals to apply but first things first. Anyone have a recommendation for removing the original lettering? I'm assuming it's paint and not a decal. I've heard of people using Solvaset for paint too. Any thoughts?
Time to get another cup of coffee.
Have a good day folks.
For my project of the day I made a paper shell of a 45' Hi-Cube container for the Tyco container flat. With dozens to choose from it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. I finally settled on a rusted design, downloaded the jpg image and printed it out on card stock. I made a slight error in the scaling and it came out as 46' long but who's counting.
Jeffery- If it scaled out at 46', I'll bet the rivets are oversize, too!
Its a good thing no nitpikin is allowed here.

lol
Your load looks great in the picture, hard to tell that it is a model.
(Actually, if you have not told us, I couldn't tell the difference!)
Mikey
It's only ink on folded card stock.
Hi fellows! Just passing by for a short sip of joe. I just got back from taking our travel trailer to the RV place. While cleaning the roof, I noticed a sunk-in place around the pop-up TV antenna...yup a leak and it has messed up about a 4x6 area of the under roof. Nothing like big buck repairs around Holiday time.
Of some interest: This past Saturday, I noted in my post that the planes where landing by the dozens for the ballgame. About mid-afternoon and listening to my scanner, I found out the parking was full and only planes that were going to do a drop-and-go where allowed. That means that all of the three airplane service centers were full, the airport main parking tarmac was full, all the grass areas full, and the East-West runway ( 4000 feet closed for parking) was full. I haven't heard how many that was, but it had to be more than 370, a previous record. I heard the tower having to direct some very unhappy pilots to Bessemer and Birmingham airports.

Hope all having a good day!

Gotta go! Just checked the weather radar and there's a bunch yellow, orange, red, brown and black stuff coming my way.
You've seen the Airstream, now here's a trailer similar to mine.

Good Morning ! from Tipton IN.
Good morning folks
It was 47 F this morning on the way out. Our high today will be 69 F.
Yesterday was a busy one at work and home. I never made it to the forums as a result. Work was meetings and in the morning and putting out fires in the afternoon. So far today looks more normal. At home the wife and I had to go to optometrist for our eye exams and updating of our glasses. I am getting used to wearing contacts again.
Tonight we are going to see an ECAC volleyball tournament game involving two schools my daughter is looking at. On Friday we will be attending a NCAA Division 3 Tournament match. One of the schools she has been conversing with, which is ranked in the top ten, emailed her wanting to know if she planned on attending their match. The school is several hours away but the match is being played close to our home.
My son passed his Board of Review on Monday night. He is now a Life Scout; next stop Eagle!
Nothing happening train-wise. I keep hoping I will get some time soon.
I hope everybody has a good day.
Good morning. It's 53° and sunny. The high will be 68° and it will be partly cloudy (so weather guesser says).
Not much going on here today. Power was out part of the night. I discovered this morning that one of the trailers on my layout has a tenant. A wolf spider has moved in and set up housekeeping. In scale feet it's 3' tall and 10' wide. When I spotted the behemoth it was walking across the park. It went to the mobile home back of the park, climbed in through the picture window and is still there at this time. I guess now I'm going to have to do some work on it before I get tenant complaints about it not being level.
Today's photo is a rare look at the front of Ezra's place. I'd like to do more to it but it's extremely difficult to get to.
It's 59° here now. Looks like we might get down to 42° tonight with no rain in sight.
Here's one of the things I was working on today.
Time for me to call it a night. After working on the projects today and attending a fire dept meeting this evening I;m wiped. See y'all tomorrow.
Good Evening to all,
I didn't get much of any MRR'ing in today, I was pulled in other directions.
Last night I did manage to do some more work on the RH switch I'm building for a siding in front of the Five Oaks station area I thought might be useful? I may also turn that into an extra passing siding but not sure if it will fit or not?
Hope every has a good night and day tomorrow.
Good morning...
Good Morning ! from Tipton IN.
Good morning folks.
It's cool and windy here. At least we don't have snow like our neighbors to the east of us.
I took the plunge yesterday and started to decal both of my operational steamers. They will soon be part of CNW instead Rock Island and NKP. Just seeing the CNW herald on the 2-8-0 makes me smile. I actually bought a couple of sets of decals because I know I'll screw some of them up. SO far I've ruined one out of three but I'm getting the hang of it!
It's nice to start a project that seems intimidating and find out it's not so hard after all.
Time to get ready for work.
Have a great day everyone.
