Good afternoon folks

The rain has started. We have had a few gusts of wind but nothing big. We have done all that we can to prep for the storm. We just finished clearing the basement floor. (Now I can’t use that as an excuse to not work on the layout.) We are waiting. The worst part of the storm is supposed to hit us around 5 AM tomorrow. On the current track the eye will pass 61 miles to the east of us over Atlantic City, NJ. The only good thing so far is that it is down to a Category 1 storm. As time passes I will try to stop in with updates until the power goes out.

My daughter’s scrimmage was ugly yesterday. They played five games and lost all five. The closest was one when my daughter was playing that lost 25-18. The “first team” lost 25-12, 25-12, 15-5. Not a promising start.

Bob was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was
really pissed.

She told him "Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the
driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE !!"

The next morning he got up early and left for work. When his wife woke
up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box
gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway.

Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought
the box back in the house.

She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale.

Bob has been missing since Friday.



Revenge Is Sweet
There once was an old couple who had been married for thirty years.

Every morning the old boy would wake up and give off an enormous fart, much to his long suffering wife's annoyance.

"You'll fart your guts out one of these days," she always complained.

After a particularly bad week the wife decided to have her revenge and got up early, placing some turkey giblets in the bed next to the old boy's arse.

While making breakfast downstairs she heard his usual morning fart reverberate through the floorboards followed by a scream.

Twenty minutes later a rather shaken man came downstairs.

"You was right all along Missus," the old man says, "I finally did fart my guts out, but by the grace of God, and these two fingers, I managed to push 'em back in!"

So far, it's been a non-event for us. 25-35 mph gusts, about 1 inch of rain, and the lights havn't even flickered. Location wise, were about 30 miles WNW of Baltimore, 30 minutes south of the PA line.

I spoke to my sister in Wilmington NC earlier. 7 inches of rain, a few small branches down in the yard, and no electricity. Otherwise, all is well. She can't get into the marina til Monday, but early reports are that the boats in the racks are OK. She will be back in the water by Thursday!

So far, it's been a non-event for us. 25-35 mph gusts, about 1 inch of rain, and the lights havn't even flickered. Location wise, were about 30 miles WNW of Baltimore, 30 minutes south of the PA line.

Ooooops! I spoke to soon. At 1:15 this morning, we lost power. It was at that point we really got pounded by the winds. Hearing the rain pelting the side of the house, and the occasional "thump" as parts of trees hit the house made for bad sleeping conditions. Woke up at 7, as as I stumbled into the kitchen all the power came back on. The good news, the sump didnt overflow into the basement. The bad news, several small branches and about half of the leaves are out of the Maple in the front yard. Looks like a few days of cleanup are in order, (raking, ugh!) but its still raining! Otherwise, it looks like the house is ok.
How's everybody else faring on the east coast???

Good morning. It's 71° and mostly clear. The high will be 103° (feel like 106°) and it will be mostly cloudy.

If you went by the weather here you'd never know anything was happening on the east coast. So far we haven't received any grim news from my sister in Pennsylvania.

Yesterday I took the time to sort my Kadee coupler boxes by type. #232 (with ears) in large pill bottle labeled for Kadee 232 coupler boxes and #242 (no ears) in a large pill bottle labeled for Kadee 242 coupler boxes. I also did the same with my couplers. #5 in one bottle, #148 in another and so on. I now have bottles containing four types of Kadee couplers. #5, #148, #118, #119. There are also bottles for EZ-Mate 2, McHenry #71 shelf couplers, McHenry #41 metal coil scale coupler andlast and least EZ-Mate 1 and McHenry plastic spring couplers (glued shut for use as dummies).

I also got one of my L&N piggyback trailers ready to be changed from L&N to L&A. I'll do the same with the other one today. I should have the L&A decals on them today. Instead of L&N Piggyback they'll say L&A Piggyback.

I reprogrammed 4 locomotives with updated sound and motor control files. While I'm still less than impressed with the sounds, the motor control is exceptional. I can get 1/2 of 1 scale mph changes now in the locomotives, including a 2-8-2.

That's pretty good speed control. That would be great for me if I was doing operations but I just like to sit back and watch the trains run.

The Mantua 2-8-2 is now a runner. Still has the same motor in it. Just had to tear the motor down and give it a good bath in CRC 2-26 to get out the crud that was in it. It runs quiet and smooth now. Low speed operation is good considering it's around 40 years old.

I flew out of Pittsburgh yesterday, on my way back home to England.The flight to Philly was on time, however they announced that the plane had plenty of fuel onboard, just in case they could,nt land,and had to go back to Pittsburgh. Fortunaltely for me, the pilots kept pressing on, and got into Philly ok. We had to stop on one taxi-way to let other planes take off, they looked like speed boats as there was so much standing water on the tarmac. My flight to Manchester took off on time, but with plenty of empty seats,obviously with all the cancelled flights, some travelers never got to Philly.

Nice to hear Jeffrey. I've got one here in the display case. Its an ongoing project. It's been fitted with a smaller tender and smaller boiler (Mantua Pacific boiler) I've still got to replace the pilot, but when its done it will make a passable model of a B&O USRA Mikado.

Good morning folks

It was a cool 64 F and sunny when I left this morning. Our high will be 79 F with no rain in the forecast until Saturday.

We survived Irene. We had a lot of rain and some wind. The scariest part was Saturday when the tornado warnings were popping up all around us. Our power stayed on through the night. We lost power around 8 AM on Sunday after the storm had basically passed. A large tree came down on the wires a couple blocks from our house. We were without power for almost 10 hours. We had a little bit of water in the basement. I had to squeegee it to the drain every couple of hours. No water came in the window wells. If nothing else I now have a fairly organized and clean basement. We had a bunch of small branches and twigs littering the front yard that took about an hour to clean up. I now have to clean out the gutters in the front of the house. They were clean before the storm.

There is now a lot of controversy going on about the hype that the storm received. We got almost 7 inches of rain instead of the foot predicated and the winds were less than anticipated. We did get a lot of flooding and there were trees and power lines but not the end of the world that the local news was calling for. At work we are waiting to see how many emergency projects we will have. There are several roads and bridges damaged but we are not sure of the scope yet.

School starts today for the kids. They go in after lunch for a half day. Tomorrow will be their first full days. They will be getting their full rosters so we will see what they have in store for them.

Good morning. It's 83 and mostly sunny. The high will be 104 and it will be sunny.

Another scorcher today. Well, yesterday I got the Mantua Mikado running. Problem turned out to be dirt/crud in the motor bearings. It runs quite well now. I have no plans for today. I'll just do things as they come along. The layout could stand some attention as it's quite cluttered due to all the recent projects. There's at least one loco that will be getting my attention soon but it'll have to wait until I have it in my possession.

Another HOT weekend down here and looks like we are headed back into the drought. College football starts up this weekend and I hope the weather temps follow in that direction.

Had another mini-ARG Op session with five operators and me as the dispatcher. We completed eight train schedules without too many mishaps. There would have been more trains, but CJ fell asleep, hidden in the mountain area of Providence. Another good session with loads of fun and laughter (...and a few lies. LOL)

Well, time to get back to my doing's. Hope all have a good day .
