PERSONAL NOTE

Had a good day at work, it's fun when all us park maint. staff gets together. Some are way to nuts:D :D it good to unwind a little. Our boss is a good people...........:D

That dagwood sounds good:p :p

More likely the pipe the CMTS is hooked to is way to small. Not that uncommon of an occurrence really. I used to work for a wireless cable operator as head of network operations. When I took the job we had all the customers (over 200) hooked to 2 bonded T1's (1.5 Mbps each). Messy!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a combination inadequate capacity and just lousy infrastructure. Charter has a server farm in Montgomery, which is only about 10 miles, but our backbone is in Atlanta. The fiber optic cable runs on poles...through the woods. I'm never surprised when we lose the cable when we have a storm. The Alabama EMA is actually dependent on Charter for internet. Any guesses on how long it will last in a hurricane?

Good morning.

It's 74 and very cloudy here and not a drop of rain yet. The high is expected to be around 90 and there's a chance of thunderstorms. That'll probably be a bunch of dry rumbles, again.

A friend sent me a smooth-side baggage car. It appears to be the same type as the 1:1 baggage car on the edge of the KCS yard in Leesville. I'll have to make a couple of modifications to it, such as cut away the diaphragms and remove the glass from the doors (the real car has none). Then I can get started on painting it to look like the one in Leesville. That'll give me the derelict railcar I want for an abandoned spur.

Good morning Chris/Bill/Jeffrey and gang

Flo, since Rex is picking up the tab this week, I'll have a Western omelet, pineapple slices, OJ, and an iced green tea! :D

These past 18 hours have been mighty wet, we had two sets of T-storms pass over our area. Luckily they left the area just an hour or two before my daughter's jet was to arrive from L.A., wouldn't have wanted for the plane to have to land in that mess! While I was waiting at BWI for her to disembark, I saw a soldier in fatigues standing in line. So I went over and thanked him for defending our country. A big smile came over his face and he replied "You're very welcome sir!" I felt so good after that, it made the whole inconvenience of driving to the airport worthwhile.

I found a never-operated P2K GP30 in its box in a remote corner of the trainroom yesterday. I won it in an eBay auction ~3 years ago, it's painted for early CSX. I realized since I model the early 1990's, I can run the thing on my layout [as an actual loco rather than just a slug] and still be prototypically correct! It appears to run OK, didn't see any symptoms of cracked worm gears. I don't know if I should swap them out with Athearn gears pre-emptively, or wait to see if they actually do fail...

Jim, speaking of shaky network infrastructure - the State of Maryland has embarked on a campaign to cut away all the tree branches from the phone and power lines, so BG&E won't be swamped with power outage calls during an average storm. Seems to have helped in my area, before they did this we would always lose power whenever the wind gusted above 20mph. Now outages only seem to occur once a year, if even that.

Good morning folks

It is 71 F and calmer this morning. High will be 84 F. We had a wild weather evening last night. We had lots of spectacular lighting with ground shaking thunder. The rain came down in buckets. My property is littered with medium to small size branches that fell during the storms. Getting to work was interesting with the road closures and downed trees and branches. Also crossing some main intersections was interesting without traffic lights.

We had to move our Cub Scout meeting indoors last night due to the weather. That meant we were not able to do some of the games we wanted and the meeting was more chaotic than I had hoped for. My daughter’s basketball team won again. They finished the season 10 and 0. First time she has ever been on an undefeated team.

No modeling last night.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Mornin' everyone!

Tom congrats to your daughter and her team for an undefeated season. Hopefully the boys (and parents) in your pack had a fun evening even if it had to be an indoors one.

Flo, I'll have the #2 special, over easy on the eggs, bacon, homefries, and some of that sourdough toast. Yep, goes on Rex's tab..........

Currently a pleasant 70°F here in the Finger Lakes this morning. Predicted high is only 71°. That was the good news...... We are being warned of a strong thunderstorm moving North East through the area and the map shows it headed directly at Geneva. "THIS STORM WILL AFFECT TRAVELERS ON ROUTES 15 AND 15A NEAR SPRINGWATER AROUND 1015 AM BEFORE IT MOVES NORTHEAST INTO ONTARIO COUNTY. BE PREPARED FOR VERY HEAVY RAIN AND FREQUENT CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING... ALONG WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF SMALL HAIL. VERY HEAVY RAIN COULD CAUSE LOCALIZED FLOODING OF ROADS AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS. USE CAUTION AND BE ALERT FOR WATER ON ROADWAYS." I'll probably shut down the computer for a while when it comes through........... (edit) now saying up to 2" an hour with it..... Drought over! Wish I could send it down to you folks in the dessert.... er South. We don't need any more rain here. We are already 2" above normal for the month.......

Have a great day!

Good Morning ALl ! Boy talk about some lousy weather . 66 going up to 72 and cloudy and rainy . Good thing the Atlas quarterly showed up and work can be done on the layout . My patio tomato leaves are all yellow from so much rain . I can send you fellas down south some xtra water . Tom congratulations to your daughter and her team on a job well done !!!!! Well better go eat breakfast before my sugar crashes . Hope you all have a real nice day ! Ray watch out for those NY summer road blocks , they'll get you every time !

Afternoon,

The skies opened up and gave us lots of lightning and liquid sunshine for the last couple of hours.... I would guestimate a couple of inches possibly. Now we have a small stream and flash flooding warning for the whole area with another 2 to 3 inches expected by the end of the day. The guy across the street has about 2 or 3 inches of water covering his lawn. Not to worry though, he will out watering the trees and shrubs this evening as usual.

Thank I'll go take my shower.... No lightning around at the moment. I have this thing about not getting in the shower when a thunderstorm is underway....

It's been actually quite nice around here the last few days. No more 1 million degrees with 1 million percent humidity. Looks like a bit of rain this weekend.

Oh jeepers! OLD97 best approve my loan or I will be washing dishes for a month. That's ok though; I just won't be able to buy shoes for my six starving little adopted children in Waga-doo-goo.

Good day to all! I hope all is well out there. I got my teeth impressions made yesterday and scheduled the extraction for Aug 20. The dentist assured me that the same day procedure is the best way to go and that "discomfort" shouldn't be any different (why do I have a hard time with the word, discomfort. Is that like "may sting a little bit". . ha!) Paul, care to join me and make it a toothsome:D .

Puppies are doing great and have already started using the doggy door. They go wide open and in all directions. Housebreaking is a "B", but getting better. You can only expect so much at six weeks. Our backyard is completely sealed with a privacy fence and they are out there playing most of the daytime. They got a good lesson yesterday by our cat Tosha. One got her tail and the other got her ear at the same time...both got smacked. She's a good cat at 11 years old and grew up with our other dogs, Rusty and Mo. She will let them get away with a little play, but biting crosses the line.:D

Not much to report, got the 6 picnic tables built and the playset fixed.....May be tomarrow we paint the picnic tables and put tines on the sand pro?! Hot nasty day today:( The coffee shop needs a dinner menu! and a evening staff, don't think Flo wants to work doubles?Bill can you fix that? It seems we come here in the evenings too ..... "How about a Cheese Burger with Cold slaw and a side of fries and a Large Coke for me! and Rex is buying.....Flo! Hey Steve What do you want to eat? Fried cat fish with a side of fries and hush puppies? I'm Feeling generous with Rex's wallet!"LOL's

REX Sounds cold blooded but we always try to get our puppys before our older dog dies! Amy our old Cocker Potty trained Jordan and Jacob! Jerry was not here to meet Amy:( . We'd tell Amy to take Moose out to PP. The old girl would show him out to the dog run to do his business.LOL's He still sometimes squats to pee! :p Amy was a Blessing! Jordan or Jacob never had an accedent, Amy would sence he had to P and out they went! Moose has yet to be bad!:) Moose benifited greatly from Amy and in her last days he took care of her, it was sweet! Moose at time can be a booger but over all you can see Amys caring in him! We got a long time before the new face will show up......But Jacob will be there to train it!:) :) He had a good teacher!

Afternoon everyone.

Since Rex is buying, it's the steak and eggs for me too, Flo. Medium rare and over easy with some sausage and biscuits on the side. Might as well really fill out my britches. :)

Chris, sounds like the usual folks in Tampa that don't slow down in the rain, crashing into the Bay. We used to get them doing the same thing in San Francisco.

Jeffrey, sounds like the start of a good project with that baggage car. Are you going to do the KCS lettering too?

Tom, Ray, and Paul, sounds like you guys are stealing all our rain. We got a whopping .12 inches yesterday and there's no storms anywhere near us today.

Phillip, sounds like you've actually got some nice weather for one.

Ray, believe it or not, there is some risk in taking a shower while there's lightning in the area. If there's a ground strike that travels though your water pipes, the water you're standing under is a pretty good conductor. There's only five people a year on average killed while taking a shower during lighting but the risk is not zero.

Ken, I always try to thank soldiers in uniform too. My brother served in Vietnam and nobody thanked him so I try to make up for it now. Glad your daughter got in after the storms left the area. As far as tree trimming goes, that's actually a federal mandate that all power companies have to trim trees so no part is closer than 25 feet to a power line. Unfortunately, there's no such federal mandate for phone or cable lines so they just run them through the woods here, sometimes just from tree to tree. It's cheap though. :D

Steve, LOL. Here's how it goes here:

Wife : 'Do you want dinner?'

Husband : 'Sure! What are my choices?'

Wife : 'Depends on where you want to take me' :)

Partly cloudy and relatively cool here with a high of 91. A few storm to the south but nothing here. Now that Dolly is giving a good rain to Texas, that's about it for the tropics now. There's one area of disturbed weather off Africa that will probably develop into another Bertha and head off toward Bermuda in a week or so.

Right you are! That's why I don't take showers during thunderstorms....

I don't talk on the telephone during them either. Doesn't matter how important the call is. It can wait. A few years back at one of our elementary schools just before school dismissed The phone rang in the office, secretary picks up, clap of thunder, secretary finds herself on floor across the room. The lightning had hit the building and zapped her through the phone line. She was rushed to the hospital and fully recovered. Well sort of..... She now works at the Middle School........:p ;) :D

Fill out your britches! Heck, your in overflow now LOL:D

Ray: Here, a few years ago, a lady in this area was seriously injured by lightning while sitting on the toilet. No lie! She was getting ready to shower and had the water running. They theorize that it came in on the power box just outside the window and jumped to her, to the water pipes.

Philip: I like to watch the blimps come in when Bama has a televised football game. We only live a mile from the airport and always have a good view. One year the wind was blowing hard and I really felt sorry for the crew. That thing was rocking like a rocking horse up and down. I always thought it would be great fun to ride in one, but now...only in very calm weather;) :D
