Good morning folks

It was 74 F on the way into work this morning. It is going to be an ugly scorcher today with a high of 95 F and high humidity.

No modeling last night. I had to take the kids to the library so they could pick-up some books they reserved that they need for their summer reading program. I also had to take care of a couple administrative issues for Cub Scouts. One of things I had to do was postpone our outing to Fort Mifflin for Saturday. Being at a fort with no air conditioning that is wide open and was built in the 1750’s through the 1840’s is not fun. There is little to no shelter there and with 95 F + degrees predicated we decided to try for another day. Also we watched Animal Cops Philadelphia last night. Strange seeing locations you know on such a program.

Tonight will be a little hectic. My daughter has a basketball game. Luckily it is at a local college with an air conditioned gym.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Mornin' everyone!

Just went on line to check the weather before I head out to Canandaigua to help Harold Russell measure a building this morning. Looks like a major severe thunderstorm is headed right at us. Should be just outside of Canandaigua right now and will be here in Geneva in 20 minutes or so. Talking penny sized hail, damaging winds, and nearly constant lightning...... Fun. Right now, low 70s and sunny here in the Finger Lakes.

I will see you all later.

:) Good Morning Everyone! I'm trying to get my courage up today and connect 16 more blocks to my signaling project. Yeah, that's right, it's under the layout time again which means several days of a sore neck. Where's my hardhat? .
Hope all have a good day. Ray, careful with the weather.;)

Morning everyone.

Steve, hope the nuclear stress test gives you a better idea of what's happening. I'm hoping this is a bout with some benign arrhythmia like PVC's. I'll keep praying and let us know when you hear something.

Rex, carpenters work much faster when they fear a dog is about to bite them. :) Good luck with the signal blocks. No way I could get 16 done in one day without terminal vertigo and about 20 bumps and bruises, not to mention the signals I blew up.

Chris, the rain is about to leave you too. As I suspected, that low is now spinning off the east coast of Florida and about to head up toward Georgia and South Carolina. I don't think it has much chance of tropical development because it's too close to land but it should help the folks in Georgia and South Carolina, who are in a worse drought the us.

Tom, look on the bright side. Your scorcher will end in a few days. Ours will end in about...oh...late Septemeber. It's already 87 here at 10:25.

Ray, I hope your thunderstorm passed through with nothing but some rain and a light show. Building a mountain sounds like a nice way to spend the day. Certainly better than doing more of those CD's.

Nothing happening here but sun and heat. We had our run off elections on Tuesday and the same morons got re-elected. Now people can complain about what a lousy job they do for the next two years. I guess they think they play no part in the fact these guys have jobs. I did find an SP SD-9 digging through the last of the boxes I bought from California. It's an Athearn BB that was one of my first "superdetail" jobs from the late sixties. I'll have to dust it out and take some pictures. It still looks pretty decent although nowhere as good as the RTR stuff you can buy from Walthers and Atlas now. I never thought I'd see the day when you could buy a plastic model off the shelf with the level of detail we've come to expect as normal today.

Afternoon gents,,,
Bama Boys and Jeffery you can keep the hot weather over that side of the pond, we have had two inches of falling wet stuff today, fantastic if your an allergy sufferer like me :) let it rain.
The wifes OK now shes off work, and tonight it's school disco night, this will wear them out somewhat. And tomorrow is going to be Fantastic, my six year old is getting an award for the best behaved child of the year at school, he does not know yet, can't wait to see his face at the special assembly tomorrow afternoon.

Got up to Canandaigua just in time for a heavy downpour. Harold was already sitting there when I arrived. We spent the first 10 minutes sitting in our vehicles waiting for the rain to slow. Other than some lightning, we didn't get too much of the worst part of the cell. The realtor didn't show up, so after a half hour we went and got some coffee. Found out when I got home (e-mail) that the realtor showed up just after we left and left just before we got back. Anyway, we went ahead and did some measurements of the outside of the building without him. Those along with a good number of photos should provide Harold with what he will need to draw a blueprint of the building. What is fascinating about this is that there is a definite angle in the building to allow it to be serviced by the railroad. A spur that was also behind the building ran from the Canandaigua yard a couple of miles to the dock on Canandaigua Lake to pick up freight and passengers from the steamboats on the lake in the early 1900s.

A fun morning and I only got stung by one wasp.......... Now to get some work done before I take off for the Rochester Cahpter NRHS Meeting tonight at the museum.

Hi All,

Sheesh! It is already Thursday. Where did the week go? I have spent the morning working on a "Schizophrenia" paper that is due on Monday. I need a break!

Steve, Congratulations on raising the best behaved child of the year! That is so cool! You will have to tell us about his reaction when it is announced. I am glad to hear that your wife is feeling better.

Jim, It sounds like your wife and I could enjoy a baseball game together...:D
I loved it when the Rangers were in town and I could watch Rafael Palmeiro. Between Canseco, McGuire and Palmeiro, I certainly enjoyed heading out to Coors Field! Yup...my birthday is Monday. I will be...<gulp> 49. When the heck did THAT happen. Just yesterday I was 26. Darn it!
One of the advantages of being an older (ew!) student is making sure that the professors don't get stupid. I had one teacher who, on the 2nd day of class, announced that George W Bush and Jeb Bush CAUSED Hurricane Katrina. What a dolt. I raised my hand and informed him that although the President holds the most powerful office in the world, even he cannot control nature. A couple of weeks later this same cretin announced that Ronald Reagan CAUSED the spread of the AIDS epidemic. He was a piece of work.

I hope everyone is having a lovely July day!

Steve - looks like Nicky's heart is settling down, glad to hear that. My wife has something called "Mitro-valve prolapse" (sp?) where her heartbeat gets slightly irregular on occassion - more of an annoyance than anything else. BTW congrats on your boy's award, ya done raised him up good! :D

Ray - glad to see you get to work with some 1:1-scale train stuff! Be sure to post the drawings when you get'm.

Jim - we're having a little heat wave of our own up here, it's 94F as I type this...! Too bad about your election. Everytime I hear somebody start a tirade about some local politician, first thing I do is ask him/her did they vote. If they say 'no' I'll tell them they forfeited their bi***ing privilege, and change the subject!

Sandy, I'm glad you were able to challenge that moron professor, those young kids would've probably been too afraid of him - or too clueless to know any better.

Rex - that [sadly] seems to be the story with many self-employed contractors nowadays. They'll break a commitment in a heartbeat if another customer with deeper pockets happens to come along.

Jeffery - so you were able to get up-close & personal with the old baggage car after all, good show!

Even though my DCC infrastructure has been installed, I'm still in the 'testing' phase - IOW, not running full-length trains, but checking out all the different parts of the layout to head off any potential problems. Did the quarter-across-the-rails test in several areas, especially those farthest away from the command station, and luckily I always got the 4 beeps that I'm supposed to hear - so I don't need to install another booster yet. I found the original relic DT100 throttle that came with the starter set several years ago, tested it, and it seems to work OK. Now I can support 3 simultaneous operators, yee-haw!

Evening!

WEATHER
No rain at my house today, rain all over but here. Like Jim said the low is going north:( Our rain chances took a nose dive to the 30's and 40's!
It's a good thing the rain has stoped, our 4 little sinkholes 2 miles from my house are GROWING:eek: They can't fill the holes until the rain stops!

Our rain chances take a nose dive, good thing the ground is tring to eat house! If any has ever delt with sinkhole knows how dangerous they are! You go to bed and in the morning wake up in a hole!LOL's The chances of a sink hole on my block is only .001%! But your chances go up the closer you live to a retention pond! O'well.
My son is on his 4th day at camp! I can't wait to here his tails of camp at the dinner table Saturday Night:)

Jim, You stole my thunder!.......................and sent it to Georga!LOL's I know what you mean when it come to the local clowns we vote for! Until you work for them, you real don't know half the story!

Steve, Glad to hear your wife is doing better! Also KUDO's on your son. Keep up the good work, Some Parents today don't push morals and the value of hard work any more! Instead they teach them to feel sorry for them selves and to hold their hand out some one will take care of them!JMO

Ken, Your right if you don't vote you forfit your right to B_______! But the other problems are....We have the uninformed voters who has know clue on the issues of the people running! or the Party voters who votes by party only! Then you have the special intrest voters(burnout hippies or wana be hippies)! I don't know whats worse? I just have a feeling the next four years are going to be tough no matter who gets in Office!JMO:o
Just a reminder my Dogs would be great Prez and VPrez.....Vote for Jerry Noodle for prez and Jacob Moose vprez! They really have a Leg up on things!:D

Hey, sign them up. They could probably do well considering our choices ;) :D.

Danged ole post war help!:D
Ken, I wouldn't be concerned---ever---about needing a booster. That is the one thing that many overplay. Just have plenty of power feeds off a good bus and you got it! BTW: I have ~1000feet of track and no booster. Granted, I have a DCS200 and use a PM42 for power districts, but I still don't have a problem anywhere with the juice ;) :) .

...best behaved child of the year at school
Steve, that is outstanding. Heck, my daughter got expelled from kindergarten (pre-school) for being disruptive to the class. I love to tease her about that now.:D

Jeffery - so you were able to get up-close & personal with the old baggage car after all, good show!
I had some young help for about half of those shots.

Man, I am wiped out! I've been out helping fight a woods fire most of the day then we had a Thursday fire dept meeting after that. Tired doesn't even begin to describe how I feel.

I have had just too much fun today..... First working with Harold taking the measurements of the old Grain Elevator. Then this evening I got to ride in a caboose and then the cab of Lehigh Valley Alco RS3 # 211 for a run by photo shoot. She is a gorgeous old girl made in 1953. She still can't start herself (waiting to finish raising the money for her batteries). http://www.rochnrhs.org/index.php

I found out tonight that they once had a totally deaf engineer (worked with another person who interpreted the radio commands for him), so it is not far fetched for me to start learning the rule book and work my way up......

Ray sound like your going to have fun!:D

Rex, I'm afraid of signing them up, They might win! Their personalitys are purrfect for the job in the oval office. Jacob would be biting everyone who fear him also sheading black hair all over the place and Jerry would spend half of day in the kitchen Eating the the rest of the day crapping on the carpet in the oval office Jerrys personality, he does what he want's to do and he really doesn't care what people say! I can honesty say the White House Cleanig Staff will have their hands full!:D

Good morning.

It's 76 and partly cloudy in the Sportsman's Paradise this morning. It will become mostly cloudy later as the high climbs to the mid 90's. There's a fair chance of thunderstorms as well.

I don't need many days like yesterday. I was helping put out a woods fire north of town yesterday afternoon. The smoke was so thick you could have probably cut it with a knife. Where it was blowing across the highway (where I was pulling hose from a truck) it was difficult to get a good breath and I was seriously considering going in search of clearer air. Just about the time I thought I was going to pass out the wind direction changed and I could breath again. We had three trucks and about a dozen firefighters on the scene. It's still a tossup on whether the cause was a cigarette butt flipped from a passing car or sparks from a train going past on the KCS mainline. There were no injuries aside from a couple of minor cases of smoke inhalation.

Good morning folks

It was a muggy 75 F as I rolled out of the driveway this morning. High today will be 97 F. The Heat Index is supposed to be over 100. We are under an Excessive Heat Warning until Saturday evening and an Excessive Heat Watch until Sunday evening.

My daughter had a basketball game last night and luckily it was in an air conditioned gym. They only had four players so she played the entire game. The other team had 7 players. My daughter’s team got down 8 to 0. By half time they came back and were winning 18 to 12. They won the game 36 to 18. I could not believe that they held the other team to 2 points in the fourth quarter and were still running fast breaks after all four girls had played three quarters without a break.

No modeling last night.

This weekend we were supposed to take the Cub Scouts on an outing and picnic at Fort Mifflin but we postponed it due to the heat. I am not sure what we will do this weekend. I guess we will just wing it.

Modeling wise I need to straighten a few things up on the layout and choose my next projects. I may try to build another P2K Mathers stockcar kit. I have two left to finish. I may also pick out some more cars to weather.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good Morning everyone ! Looks like another hot day along the Erie Canal . Gotta get out and cut the grass befroe it gets to darn hot . Just a quick cup of coffee and will ceck out all later . Hope you all have a nice Friday . My poor gril is still with us a little longer , will wait to after the weekend to take her to the vet !!!!!

Morning everyone!
Well, I got six of the sixteen signal/traffic detection blocks wired in yesterday. I would have been able to do more, if I had not forgotten to finish up on some prep work. Once this BDL168 is wired in, I will have 32 detection blocks, some for working signals, but all for computerized mainline traffic control. Dang, I hate crawling under the layout and pulling wire, back and forth, back and forth...oh, my neck!:D

EDIT: Paul, I am very sorry about your little friend and family member. I know, only to well, the hurt you are feeling.
