Hi all Ray we had about as little rain as you no pun intended. I took a walk last night in that rain and wind to look for my wife's flag. Foud it about a quarter mile away in a big puddle of water. Other then that eacaped realtively unharmed. Sat last night watching White Christmas it really helps me to get into that Holiday feeling. Well glad to hear that not to many of us were damaged by the storm have a real nice Saturday Night !!!!

Rex that week delay will give us a chance to paddle over
Ray as i sit here all hell's got loose in the sky here, it's blowing and raining hard, good job i got the tree cut down to size

:D Yeah Steve, you will have plenty of time. Just get the wifey to pack you a lunch and you will do fine. Make sure Jos does his share of the paddling. Don't worry about NZken. Eric is sending a company jet to pick him up, and Josh, and Maryland Ken, and ....;)

Excellent news Rex, I pack my bags ready. *note to self* pack Digitrax throttle PK2 2-8-8-2, Class J and the C30-7 for some modern power on the BC&WR.

Found 2 boats?

Good morning All,

Rex and SteveBIf you think we can handle that( padling across those ponds) within 1week:confused: : I trust you:rolleyes: ...So I was looking for a boat last week and I had the choice...The left big one or the right small fast one??
BTW The padles are for free:D ( watch teh last picture I add...;) )

Oh, something else Steve B: The vast bulb field exists only in the north-west part of our country Just behind the dunes...So on the flat part of our country. I live "far in the south and we do have small "hills...:) and no vast bulb fields. The soil is not "sandy"enough...
Add some pics

Mornin' Bill!

Mornin' everybody!

grove den, If will help you guys, I would be glad to sing "Row, Row, Row, your Boat" a few times....:D

BTW, I love that photo of the hillside with the stone face. What was in the "cave" at the bottom?

Good evening all.

Ray: Only a FEW times??? we suppose to row across the whole pond !!!:D
The water in your wheel/barrow is that from the last 48 hours?? That's why you were in the mood to sing: row, row ,row.....:D :p

Steve and Ray About the caves: These rocks are the same "materials" as the white clifs at Dover and they are from the same "age"
( cretaceous period) As our part of the continent were a vaste sea...
The caves were made by people mostly in the last 2 centuries because the rocks (maristone) were used to built houses/castles or bridges. It is a very "soft" kind of rock. You can use a rough big saw to cut them out. We call it "mergel" in your language I think: marl.

Yep Marl, there's ton's of the stuff just a bit south of me in Cheshire over the salt mines, they have dug 800 miles of tunnels under cheshire extracting salt for well over a hundred years

Good eveing all ! Bills lost cloudy and cold . Maybe will be heading down South for the train meet if this keeps up !!

grove den, Yep, all but about an inch of the water in the wheelbarrow was from the big storm that hit the Eastern part of the US a couple days ago. Very interesting about the caves.

Got home early from the grind stone and decided to put some Xmas lights up.

The tree is in our front yard.( I picked a windy day up the ladder!!)

The last one is our gate posts lit up at night, they come on when you push the auto gate button too.:)

Ken.

Wow! When are we going on a virtual history tour, Steve? That's interesting stuff.

Jos, Those are some cool pics. Can the caves be safely entered? I'd be forced to go have a look around. ;)

I would love to go down there GM but they won't let anyone unless directley employed,,, slight typing error there BTW , i should have typed in 118 miles not 800 :o The mine has three lift shafts, one for personell and inbound ventilation, the second is for personell and equipment and also outward bound stale air and the last for salt in very big skips around 40 ton's in one go. everything that is down there has to be dis assembled up top and re built down below, the exception was the Ford transit crew bus which was stood on it's end to get it in the lift. The mine uses a JOY continious miner for 85% of salt extraction and 15% drill and blast the rest which is hauled to storage areas deep underground untill it's required up top, below is a picture of the beast that works down the hole

The Winsford salt mine has hit the news more than once for this reason:-

Britain's only working salt mine is to be partly turned into a giant toxic waste tip to avert a predicted crisis later this year when most existing overground sites will be forced to close.

The 170 metres (550ft) deep mine, near Winsford in Cheshire, currently used to mine rock salt used on icy roads, has been given permission by the British deputy prime minister, John Prescott, to indefinitely store 2m tonnes of toxic waste over the next 20 years. It will include incinerator and heavy industry waste and asbestos, but no liquids.

The mine is a godsend to the government and industry, which urgently need new sites to dump waste, because of its size and geology. The cool, dry caverns and galleries stretch over five square miles along 118 miles of 25ft-high, 75ft-wide corridors - an area large enough in theory to take most of Britain's toxic waste for several generations.

Have a look at this web site which shows how important the mine workings are, there is warehousing, chemical storage areas as well as mining,

That's some cool background info, Steve. That's a huge mine.

Jos, I'm thinking the Santa with the rod is what many of today's kids need more than a new PS3...
