Grande man:The caves cannot be entered save anymore because of the danger that the galleries could easily collapse. They let these caves open just for a small part at the "cieling" of the entry-gallery so that only bats can fly in and out.
BTW Got the same toughts about Santa and the kids "today";)

Steve B:Very interresting story and web-site about the saltmines and "dump"mines
The AFCENT(Alied Forces Central Europe) Had, for about 10 years, a part of their /our defense system inside a hill ,here in my neighbourhood, with these caves and galleries. This base was built during the "cold- war in the 60ties and was a top secret place....It was on/under the border with Belgium and Holland in the far south.( Cannes)

Both Cargill and Morton salt have mines on Seneca lake. I do remember the collapse but don't have any details in my brain........ so, You're going to get a little dusting of "partly Cloudy" tonight. Since when to Upstate New Yorkers worry about less than a foot of snow. :D :D

Steve B: there is some "good" news:The PFA will be brought by rail from the Drax power station to a purpose built mixing plant that has been constructed on the Brunner Mond site at Winnington. New railway sidings have had to be laid in order to accommodate the trains. ;)

Jos
ps are you also living above those saltmines/gallaries??

Wow Jos, That's some interesting stuff about St Nick! As GM and Ray were hinting, so many people in today's culture have forgotten about the "other side" of the Bishop of Myra.

Steve, I'll cmoe back later to read about your salt mines, I'm at work now so not much time for surfing.

Here is a little animated Christmas card from Norfolk Southern I thought y'all might enjoy!

Ken L: I did enjoy it Ken!!
The las part reminds me on the film"The Polar Express" with Tom Hanks....
Thanks for the "hint":)

Nice one Ken

Don't know weathwer to laugh or cry, i just spilled about 3-1/2 gallons of water on the dining room floor,,,,,don't ask:( :( :(

Mornin' Bill!

Mornin' everybody!

Steve, ouch! I hate it when something like that happens and I have to stop everything I'm doing and make "repairs". I'm going to have to pull up some pads that I placed on the floors of the aisles in my old train room as the recent rains got the water going in there. Mold will be growing soon.....

Post some pics of the new scenery ASAP!

Hi All,Steve Boy thats a bummer . My dog had various accidents on our carpeting You get out the steam cleaner and hope you get it all out. Ray I should know better then to listen to the Weather man. The dooms day perdicter. All we got was a couple of inches in my neighborhhod. Piece of cake. But it was fun to see all the traffic tieups last night on the news when the people have to relearn thier winter driving skills. Hope all have a real nice afternnoon !!

Yep! It's when they start predicting "Partly Cloudy" That I make sure I'm stocked up on stuff. Nothing like a foot or two of "Partly Cloudy" to slow things down here.
