Good morning all!

A bit chilly and dreary here in the Finger lakes this morning. Right now the thermometer says it is 32°F but it is supposed to reach 46°F later today. That should mean that most ofr the snow on the ground will be gone by this evening. What will be left will be a few piles of gray, dirty, ugly snow.

Got word yesterday from the Regional NMRA AP person that he will accept my variations on the Turntable and Roundhouse wiring as meeting the "spirit" of a requirement (C4) for the Electrical AP Certificate. Whew! Now all I have to do is finish the rest of the paperwork and make a time for the layout to be judged for the award.............. And hope everything is up to the standard.

Philip good luck to your wife. Good to see is doing well.

Well, I have about 3 days work ahead of my this morning so I best go get some work done. Later!

Good morning, everyone.

Up early with a hacking cough and I feel like pigeon poop. No fever so I hope this just a garden variety common cold. I hate being sick. :(

Phillip, hope the staple removal is uneventful and not too painful for your wife. At least this should be the last time she has to go through this, I hope. Are you starting to sleep any better?

Paul, I hope everthing checks out fine with the eye doctor. The snow blower must be feeing lonely. :)

Carl, sounds like one of those days that you just throw up your arms and hope nothing worse happens.

Jeffrey, looks like you are going to have a nice day. Not sure for us. It's cloudy and 57 with light rain right now and nothing is getting organized to our west. As long as we don't get much sun this afternoon to set off the convection, we should be fine. Looks like a close call either way.

My father just returned from lunch, we work for the same company, and told me that he had to wait for a train that consisted of two CN locos (local class 1) and a NS loco that he is describing as a six axle Dash 8 or a Dash 9 pulling into town. I may have to go do some hunting after work. :D

CJ, I can see you cared more about pride in your work than profit, which is a rare thing now. I can't say I'm quite the perfectionist that you are but I've started more than few projects over when it was clear they weren't going to come out right. I also agree about practice. Some of my first paint jobs were absolutely terrible but I got better as time went on and could finally take something to club without everyone laughing at it.

Jim;

First, let me get a cup of Java from Sabrina!:D

I didn't see this yesterday as for some reason. Thanx for the compliment. I do take pride in my play, as I no longer work, but you get the drift! When I was day charge in the CVOR at UAB, the Dr's loved how I ran the shift for them.:) The day crew sometimes didn't like it, but it was better for the pt.

As to the weather today Jim, this was on the weather blog of one of our TV stations here. It gives us both something to be concerned about.:( Its from Tim Coleman, one of the Mets that assist James Spann.

"A very difficult forecast. The air will be very unstable this afternoon, but there won’t be any fronts or upper-level waves to trigger storms, and wind shear is decreasing. A few scattered storms may form, and the ones that do form may become severe, with large hail and damaging wind as the main threats.
Later tonight, as another upper-level disturbance and surface low move out of Oklahoma, wind shear will increase, and a more widespread threat of strong storms will develop from Arkansas into Mississippi, and some storms may develop into Alabama tonight. By Saturday morning, a warm cap will be in place, suppressing thunderstorms over Alabama.
I know this forecast is a little vague. We’ll keep watching it. Keep up with the weather this afternoon and evening, and plug in the NOAA weather radio before bed tonight."

Like he said, vague, but with an increasing shear overnight and a warm cap, it can get warmer, more humid, and definite increase in instability tomorrow. If that cap breaks, then watch for severe to tornadic thunderstorms for sure.

I've been spending a lot of time lately, getting some "projects" out of the way. (seems like he said something like this several days/weeks ago!hhhmmm)
But I have finished a couple of them and hope to have something new for WPF this weekend.:) If I don't have enough, I'll show them off during the weeks ahead!:D:rolleyes:;)

Jim;

Also forgot to mention that with that cough, and feeling bad, no fever, it maybe that virus that everyones been getting:(. I feel for ya man! If it is, you're in for a rough time from what everyone sez.:(

Good Luck with it!;)

Thanks, CJ. The characteristics of this "flu-like syndrome" (since the CDC refuses to chararacterize it as a flu outbreak :() seem to be feeling fine and then four hours later you're flat on your back with a 102 degree fever. This was one of the those that I could feel my throat getting scratchy for the last day or so and woke up this mornng with that hacking cough. No fever but the usual slight headeache and muscle aches. Some robitussin and ibuprofen have me feeling much better than the folks I've seen with this flu so I'm hopeful this won't get any worse.

I don't know what to think about the weather. We've had about 5 mintes of sunshine but we are up to 72 degrees and the dew point is up to 58. Even an hour of sunshine could mean big trouble but I see nothing developing at all out west of us, which must mean there's very little lift available. In theory, the air should be more unstable today than tomorrow once the warm cap gets in place but this really is a tough one to call. The sun is starting to shine again and, with DST in place, that gives us an extra hour of heating (relatively) so things could change in a heartbeat. After 35 years of California, which can have it's own quirks in the winter and spring, it's been really interesting t learn about the dynamics down here. Much closer to what I would see in the tropics than in a continental area.

Good afternoon folks

It has been a rough 18 hour around here. We just got make from taking my father-in-law to VA Hospital in Wilmington for his yearly check-up. He is 74 but acts up like a little kid when he has to do this trip. By the time we get home everyone is so frazzled. He argues with everyone and lies to the doctor thinking it will get him out faster. We keep trying to explain to him that the doctor has to see him once a year and do blood test so they can keep prescribing his medication which he gets at a substantial discount. He thinks because he talks to the doctor on the phone and tells them he is fine that is all they need. Since he is diabetic we keep trying to explain to him why they have to see him. Well today perhaps he learned as they added a blood pressure medication to his regiment.

The other thing that has me down is last evening after we got home from Cub Scout training around 9:30 PM we received a phone call. As we always say no good news comes at that time. One my best and oldest friends from high school passed away suddenly at the age of 45. He had been sick for a few days with a cold and had seen the doctor and they could not find anything. Then late Wednesday his wife said after he went to bed he started acting delirious. She immediately got their oldest son and started to take him to the hospital. They made to the living room and he collapsed. The doctors said he was most likely gone immediately from massive heart attack. Since then I have been in a state of disbelief. In high school and through college we were always together. I was a groomsman in his wedding and he was one in mine. Although we only saw each other once or twice a year we talked every few months or emailed one another keeping up on things. The last time I saw him was at his son’s high school graduation party in the summer. We were supposed to get together over Memorial Day. I spoke with him about two weeks ago right after the death of another classmate. The viewing is Sunday night and the funeral on Monday.

At least tonight we will busy. My son has guitar lesson followed by basketball practice. Tomorrow my daughter has travel softball practice in the morning and regular softball practice in the afternoon and my son has a semi-final basketball game in the afternoon also. Sunday other than the viewing we have nothing planned.

I may try to spend some time modeling. I think it will be somewhat therapeutic. Not sure what I’ll do.

I hope everybody has a good day.

I guess it's time to put my car in the shop again. I was coming in from town a while ago and had to slow down for slower traffic. I pressed the brake pedal and it went to the floor, I mean ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR! I pumped the pedal and the brakes came back. I checked the wheel rims to see if there was any brake fluid leaking out, couldn't find any. The brake reservoir is full so that's not the issue. This has bad master cylinder written all over it.

What an interesting day!

I've got to tell you all about this!

The wife got the staples out OK today, and she's doing well on that, but on the way to pick her up I called and she told me that after the appointment we're going to have to go to the emergency room! Seems my son was playing last night and hurt his finger (I knew that much), but now it's twice the size it should be and it's all black and blue! I told her to call her doctor as he's a hand, knee and foot specialist and see if he'll be willing to take an x-ray while we're there and get him all fixed up. The doc said it was no problem (This doc is awesome!). So we go there and it's a slight fracture in the growth plate, but it's bad enough that he decides on a cast (my son thinks he's the coolest thing since sliced bread now because he has a cast). Then he see's my son walking down the hall on his tiptoes, like he always does because of his muscular dystrophy, and stops to examine him about that issue (the doc knows our family history of MD). A few minutes later he's telling us about a new surgical procedure that has just come out that will relieve the tightness he has, and while he may have to have the surgery again when he's done growing (because it could tighten up again as he grows), after that, he may never have to have the surgery again and he may never see the wheelchair that was predicted for him by age 25! He may die of old age, walking!

You can't even begin to imagine how happy my wife and I are right now! God did such a wonderful thing when He brought this talented surgeon into our lives! Now my wife will be walking for many years to come instead of being confined to a wheelchair, and my son may never see his own wheelchair!

I've gotta go scream from a mountaintop now!

(Does anyone know where to find a real mountaintop in Indiana?)

Hey all thanks for the welcome back been busy first I finished the porch up that got destroyed christmas eve by a guy whos foot got stuck under the break peddal and on the gas ( don't ask me ) and then I started taking shelves down that my trains are on to hope get ready to sell this place so we can move to Columbia, S.C. to a hopeful new job with the V.A. That would be great. Also been listing a lot of O gauge train items that just sit in boxes this time starting at .99 and letting them go we'll see most are not very expensive items at all a couple should bring $25 - $40. most $10.00 or less.

Not to much else happening today.

Oh I'll probally leave one shelf up with a couple od trains on it so
I don't go thru complete withdraw of no trains

RT, I had no trains for a while (about a year and a half) during our moving ordeal. I found that these forums, while not a replacement by any means, were great therapy!

Good Morning Bill ! Jeffrey ! Phew alot has happened since I was here yesterday ! First off my condolences to your friends family Tom , it is a awful way to loose someone . We just lost my mother-in-law so we are still a bit out of sorts around here also . Phillip that is wonderful news about your son. I wish him all the best and hope that he runs thru life not walks !! Jim sorry to hear your downand out , Hope you get over this bug that is sweeping the country. Gotta get going. were celebrating my daughter's birthday , my son's birthday and my daughter's boyfriend's birthday tomorrow since their birtdays are the 14,18 and 17 respectively . Good way to get them in one shot. Here's hoping that everyone has a nice Saturday !!!!

Tom, I'm really sorry hear of the death of such a close friend. You are now at the age where your mortality starts become something real rather than an endless horizon stretching out before you. My sympathy to his family and you.

My dad was the same kind of cantankerous old man before he died so I always had to at least talk to his doctor after a visit since he'd also "forget" to tell him things. I think guys from that WWII era are just way tougher than use. We run to the doctor for every little ache and pain. Those guys just sucked it up and went on with life. I know I'm a total wimp about pain compared to my dad.

Phillip, so the boy goes into get a busted finger casted and the doctor that just happens to know about this operation sees him? God does work in mysterious ways. I've read a little about this operation and it shows some real promise. Like so many other things with MS, it may not pan out but it at least gives you a ray of hope. Glad the wife is rid of those staples too and I hope she's resting comfortably. BTW, I think the closest real mountain to Indiana is somewhere in Tennessee so you'd better get the tank filled and check the tires. :D

Paul, lots of birthdays to get out of the way in one shot - good move. I'm feeling just a touch better today but still no fever or GI problems so I think this is still a common cold. They usually take three days to run their course so I'm hoping I'll feel better by tomorrow. Our church is holding 24/7 prayers for Holy Week and there will be a lot of women there late at night and early in the morning. We decided we needed to provide some security for them going to and from their cars and for the church itself. I volunteered to pull to the first 9 pm to 6 am shift tomorrow. It's been a while since I pulled an all nighter so I hope I feel peppier tomorrow.

They've just issued a Tornado Watch for us until 6 PM. I don't really see anything on the upper air maps or radar to get excited about but I think they are concerned about an area of onvection getting oranized to the west of us in Mississippi. I don't think it has a chance to fight wind shear here and I think it will be pulled north toward Birmingham and Atlanta. I suspect it's an overabundance of caution after the Atlanta tornado last night.

Morning everyone, I sure hope everyone has a good weekend although some of you may have it a little tougher. My thoughts are with you Tom.

My wife and my mother went to a large antique show here in town last night, takes up the whole football field at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Wife surprised me with some old issues (10 in total) of Model Railroader magazine from between 1971 and 1982. She's such a sweetheart.

I'll be taking my car to the local repair shop Monday morning. I was planning on just having the master cylinder rebuilt. When my father learned of this he said "Heck no you're not getting it rebuilt. Have them replace it altogether. If you get it rebuilt, you'll never be able to trust it.". I told him "Yeah, right! How am I supposed to be able to pay for a new one. I don't have bunches of money". What he said next absolutely surprised me. He'll pay for the parts and labor. All I have to do is cut his grass one or two times every couple of weeks until I get him paid back, $20 a cut. I didn't argue. Until the car is repaired I'm using his truck to get around.

Afternoon everyone.

Just poping in to say hi. Just got home from doing a recording of the Elementary All County Festival. Wow! A lot of stuff going on with so many of you.

Been a bit overcast today, but all told a very pleasent warmish day here in the Finger Lakes. Currently 41°F. Well that is Warmish this time of year around here.

Jeffrey I think your Father is right on the money on that. I thought the exact same thing when you mentioned having it rebuilt.
