Philip- For starters I have absolutely no opinion one way or the other on homeschooling. I have only known a few people that were homeschooled and there were goods and bads, just like the kids in public schools, or private schools for that matter. The message that you posted has some great points in it, nice work by the original writer. It's really unfortunate that so many people choose to criticize things that they really do not understand. I feel that the best mind is an open mind and only after you fully understand both sides can you critique one of them. I try to live that way as much as I can.

BTW, I do not remember much about chemistry but, I can remember physics pretty well. :D

Nice post

Good Morning Bill , Tom , Carl & Phillip !!! It's like a winter wonderland outside . Frost covered by a thin layer of snow .Withfog in the air. It's surreal !!! Well enough of that mushy stuff. Just want to get a cup of coffee and enjoy the company ! Here's hoping that everyone has a super day !!!

Mornin' everyone!

Looks like beautiful day here in the Finger Lakes. Sun is shining, currently 25°F but should turn cloudy this afternoon with a high of 42°.

My sister will be arriving this evening from her trip to Mexico. I have to pick her up at the aiorport and deliver her to her house. Aren't I lucky? At least I won't have to be driving 30 miles a day to feed her cat for a while. Her cat will be just as happy about that as I am........

I have been writing all the diagrams that I need for the Electrical AP Certificate. Most of them should be fine. One I think I will redo today to make it more complete and easier to understand. That leaves two more to create and I should be very close to being ready for the judges to visit the layout.

That's some driving Tom, and two stores isn't bad. Could have been much worse.

Two stores is amazing. Usually it takes us four or five. My daughter is 12 and is hard to fit. She is almost 5’ – 4” and thin. When she finds something that is long enough it is usually too big in the waist. If the waist fits it is too short. It is my mother’s family fault. They were all over 6 foot tall including my mother. BTW she is as tall as my wife.

As far as the driving, the hardest thing was getting to the Interstate. The store in Newark is at the Route 273/I-95 Interchange. Once on I-95 it was 55/60 MPH and we took I-495 around Wilmington which is posted 65 MPH.

Afternoon, all.

Tom, my daughter has to shop for a a prom AND graduation dress in the next few weeks. This is one of those things I happily leave to my wife since these turn into multi-day affairs with a lot of fighting over what's exactly the right dress. I tell them that, if it's not a locomotive, I can't help them. :)

Phillip, seems like we did home schooling in this coutry for a long time before public schools came along and we survived just fine. I'm all in favor of letting people make choices for themselves and their families that don't affect me or the country negatively.

Paul, sounds very pretty as long as you're inside with a cup of coffee. :) I'll bet that snowblower is sitting there just waiting for the last storm of the season though.

Ray, you're a way smarter guy than me if you can get that electrical certificate. Just hooking up two wires to the right terminals and not seeing smoke makes me feel like a genius. :D

Had some showers overnight and into the morning but it's starting to clear now. For the first time since I've been here, the ground is really mushy instead of like concrete. I hope we can keep the rain coming this summer and keep the heat down to less than blast furnnace levels. It's officially spring here since the first Dogwoods are blooming. They are about the prettiest trees I've ever seen.

Another nice windy wet day from hell, next door's just lost the shed roof with a great bang and crash, could have been worse, it could have been mine.

Hi fellows. The travel trailer is loaded up and we will be gone tomorrow. Other than a rainish Friday we should have a beautiful week in the low 70's day and 40's night...just right;). See you here Sunday evening.:)

KenL: Glad you had a good time at the Op session. Now you know why the ARG'ers have a ball.:D

Philip: Homeschooling: What ever is best for the child is the right way and for what I have experienced in Education, homeschooling is the only way to ensure your child is not being held back because of those students that don't want to apply themselves. Social reasons? Hmph! Again, there are many I wouldn't want my children around anyway. Sorry...I'm just a fuddy duddy.:)

Jim: When the Dogwoods bloom...it's Crappie fishing time. The Alabama River has some fine fishing holes.

Steve: Are you on a Short-timers schedule yet (NZ)?

Paul: You will soon have to go into snowblower withdrawal. Got a sponser yet?:D

Ray: Good luck on the AP. I never got around to getting serious with them, but have great respect for those that do.;)

Tom: I consider anyone over 5' 9" as tall. :D

CU Later

Been a slow day here. There was no work for me at the shop because a shipment of screws didn't come in, but I took care of some other business (medicaid related) while I was in town.

Morning everyone. :)

Fairly slow last night around here although I have restarted trying to figure out my switching yard layout since I rebuilt my bench last weekend and gained a few feet of space. Gaining 8 sg. ft. doesn't make it any easier to fit things in, it's just let's you fit more in. :D

Good morning folks

It is 41 F on it way to 53 F and it is raining. The weather mis-forecasters said nothing about rain last night so where did it come from?

I am going into work late this morning. I have to take my daughter to school. She is fighting a cold and with the rain we don’t want her walking a mile to school. Her school has been hit hard with strep throat this month. Something like 1/3 of her team has been or is out with it.

No modeling last night. We went to Cub Scout Round-table. Tonight we have Cub Scout Den meetings.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning.

It's 42 degrees under clear skies, expecting a high of 75 under partly cloudy skies.

Today's Weather for:

Good Morning ! Bill ,Carl , Tom & Jeffrey , We hit our high for the day and it's 32 , So it's all gravy or sour milk from here on out . Got a bit of snwo which isn'y much . I guess the snowblower will just have ti sit this one out. Anyone want a new job. Seems like our state might need a new Governor oin a few days. Looks like our old one fell for the world's oldest profession . And the best part he use to put people away for doing the same thing. The irony of it all . Oh well just another cup of coffee and hope that everyone has a wonderful day!! Oh yes here's wishing Oscar Meyer Weiners a happy Anniversary !!! They've been around for a hundred and twenty- five years. Hip-Hip Hurray !!

Morning all!

Well, I'm a little more bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning as my dad would say. I slept a good solid 7 hours last night. Took a nice long hot bath at 11pm last night with the new model railroader magazine (great issue BTW!) and got real relaxed, then hit the bed at about midnight and was out like a light. I'm still a little tierd, but I'm not the zombie I was yesterday.

Which reminds me, i'm sorry if I was a bit testy yesterday or Monday. Lack of sleep will really mess you up, ya know? My appologies. I'm not usually like that.

So, the weather guesser says it's going to be pretty nice today. Low to mid 50's and sunny. I'll take it!

And speaking of great things, the wife continues to improve. She gets better every day. Thanks for all the prayers and support.

Well, I'd best be off for now. Check ya later!

Mornin' Everyone!

A very gray day here in the Finger lakes. It has already hit the high for the day at 33°F and there are a few little white thingies falling at the moment.

Paul Gov. Spitzer is expected to resign just a few minutes from now (11:30AM). While I do think that resigning is the right thing for him to do under the circumstances, I have to have a very sad feeling for him and his family during this time. I know that God will be with them and ready to help them sort out their lives during all of this. The only really good news is that soon to be Gov. Paterson is a man of courage, conviction, and integrity that will be a great leader for New York State. I know that he will undertake this responsibility with prayer and a bit of fear and trembling knowing that he will be largely serving people who tend all to often to be ungrateful for the work and other politicians who will look for every and any way to pull him down.

Hope you all have a great day. Stay warm!

I think that it is a sad state of affairs when a man has to resign for having sex, yet it nothing is done to our officials that take legalized "campaign contributions" from pharmaceutical companies that make their profits not form curing anyone, but rather from addicting as many people to as many drugs as possible for the rest of their lives.

The "evilness" doesn't balance for me.

Afternoon, everyone.

Chip, I understand where you're coming from given your background but Spitzer's case is not comparable. The drug companies are doing things that are still legal as far as we know. Spitzer, if the few facts of the case that we know prove to be true, is guilty of violating the Mann Act and money laundering, both federal crimes that will get you prison time. He set himself up as "Mr. Clean" and used some dubious methods to get prison terms for people when he was the attorney general. The ironic thing is that he has been involved in stings that broke up prostitution rings and had to know that his actions would eventually lead to his being outed. It's almost like "Suicide by Cop", where a person can't bring himself to do it and sets up the police to kill him. Maybe he wanted out of politics but just couldn't step away on his own. Whatever the reason, it's a sad story for a man who did some good things in his career, which is now over.

Phillip, glad to hear you for a decent night's sleep. You've been under a lot of stress lately and that will screw up your sleep pattern something fierce. You have nothing to apologize for. Stating your views in a civilized manner is why we have the Coffee Shop. I'm glad to hear your wife continues to improve and I will keep her in my prayers.

Paul, too bad you and the snowblower didn't get to have your daily fun but I'm sure more snow is on the way up there. :)

Tom, I hope your daughter is feeling better. Nasty virus, whatever it is.

Ray, have fun on your first trip with the new trailer. Friday and Saturday may be a little tricky in terms of severe weather so keep your weather radio handy. The last place you want to be caught in a tornado is a travel trailer so I hope they some other kind of shelter available where you're going. Dianna is the fisherperson in the house and she said that you're right about the crappies and dogwoods. That's when she always went fishing with her father. I'm afraid I'm pretty hopeless as a fisherman - there are times I swear I can hear them laughing at me from under the water. :)

Steve, I hope your storm is over and that your shed is still intact. Any more news on that stranded ferry?

Carl, I sure wish I had spent some more time planning my yard layout. It's stub end when, with a little more planning, I could have made it double ended. Same thing with my interchange track. It's only useful for northbound trains since I didn't put in a runaround track so trains for either direction could back into and escape from the interchange. I didn't follow a lot of the basic rules that Chip writes about in his guide for beginners. Even though I'm not really a beginner, I made a lot of dumb beginner mistakes.

Jeffery, it looks like a great day there too. I'm not sure how this Friday/Saturday event will affect you but you should start seeing some thunderstorms by Thursday night. Until then, I'll take the 70 degrees we have now and be happy.

Jim not a lot of progress as far as i'm aware with Riverdance, today we had a storm force 11 blowing up the Irish sea with record tides as well, it's pretty well a stuffed turkey at present i recon, shed still intact but the metal cladding was blowing off the warehouse walls today, it was a tad windy inside :)

Thunderstorms Thursday night, Partly cloudy Friday with a high of 81.
