Fergie;

Like Rex, you've apparently forgotten the fifth law of Model Railroading:"All model railroads expand to fill any available space!":D

Don't ask what the other laws are...I ain't awake yet.

Oh, I haven't forgotten the law. In fact, I am doing my best to follow it to the letter.;)

I don't know CJ, last I heard, the lawn mower wasn't under a tarp in the yard yet. I think Rex needs to try a little harder...:D

Good evening crew, I've been so focused on preparing that Philly clinic that I haven't been participating in this Coffeeshop or the one across the street. I feel like a drowned rat now, it's been pouring down rain continuously here in MD for the past 3 hours [it displays as dark red on the Weather.com radar maps]. And it is supposed to be like this for the next two days - yuk!

Rex - In my case it works the other way around: The surrounding space shrinks to fit the existing railroad:D

Steve - Happy to see your RC boat sale was a success! Got your message about the rail barge, I thought about diong somehing like that for awhile but realized that would overcomplicate my layout. Maybe someday when I can acquire some additional Real Estate though...?

NZKen I'm glad to see that your employer recognizes your value in a 'tangible' way ;) even if you didn't get the promo. Just be ready to step in when the guy makes his first major blunder...

. . .
It's past 11:00pm here and I see a pillow with my name on it...

Hello Folk's
just watched a news report from the Somme in France, it highlighted the plight of the Newfoundlanders during the first world war, how they were sent to an almost certain death in no man's land but what got me was an interview in the field with Henry Allingham age 110 the last surviving member of the royal air force of WW1, he was one of the first members of the air force,

Steve, it always amazes me to watch the History Channel about WWI: to blindly charge across no-man's land during a massive artillery barage and scores of machine guns blasting away, to lie in filth and muck for days, and to not only suffer from battle wounds, but also suffer from disease. It's a wonder that anyone survived on either side.

Your right there Rex, a friend of mine was in Auschwitz Birkenau for two years as a POW, he only told everyone five years ago he was a POW, i have known him for 35 years and didn't have a clue, he never talked about it to anyone including his wife, it came as a huge shock to her when he decided to tell the world about what horrors he saw, he's wrote a book and was on TV, he hopes his story will change the way people view war.

Hello Steve, how are you sir? Having just read your post,I thought about my Grand father Latture, who fought in France in WW1,he first served in the Air Corps, the transfered to an Ambulance Unit.I have somewhere a photo of him in his uniform, and of him with his unit in France. Also,I have been reading the book on the 506th infantry company,Company E,101 Airborne,"Band of Brothers.".It is truly hard to imagine what the soldiers of both wars went through.I have watche d Band of Brothers, and movies, and I barely understand what my grandfather, and those soldiers in Easy Company, went through.I will say this though,I am grateful for their service.I also, hope to have on the next WPF,maybe some shots of Santa Fe,or BNSF Diesels that show up around here.William.

Mmmmm... If that's the case I may just have to double track it!:D :D :D :D

Yeee Haw!

This could mean more room for Articulated's

Not much on the go. Have five cedars to plant and grass to cut if it gets dry enough.

Mornin' Bill! Just coffee today, Flo, been puttin' on a few pounds.....

Hey Fergie, Bet your lawn and yard looks great! What kind of Cedars are you putting in? Sunday evening I was assembling CDs for a client and watching my luney neighbor across the street work on his lawn. He mowed it twice (to get that diamond effect), weeded his flower beds and pruned back one of the larger trees. Then he got out the hose and proceeded to water his trees. Well, he did water all his flower beds, but the guy was actually watering his trees again (these have been in for 5 or 6 years BTW). Of course he had to work fast because he wanted to get done before it started to rain. We were forecast for (and got) 2 1/4 inches of rain over 30 hours Sunday night and yesterday, and he wanted to get everything watered before the storm hit! :p ;) My garden is actually growing and the new fence is keeping the local rabbit population at bay. There is hope for me yet.

The mail man brought me some new toys yesterday. Micro Mark has been having a major sale and I picked up a Bachmann Russian Decapod and a Bachmann 4-6-0 for $70 each along with some other items. I opened up the Decapod yesterday and the detail is great! I put a NCE decoder in it but haven't had a chance to program or run it yet.

Later!

Ray, maybe your neighbor was just making sure the ground was good and wet so that the rain would soak in better

Fergie, the 5th law is easy to follow.

Garage/basement: Remove lawnmower and all garden tools to the outside and cover with tarp. Buy car cover and park car in driveway. Rent a storage room for the "I may need someday" collectibles. Relocate waterheater, furnace, and other utilities to spare bedroom. Remove support poles/columns (What's a little floor sag!) Remove stairs and use a rope ladder.

Spare Bedroom: Cut hole in wall to adjoining bedroom/bath and run bookshelf track around room and re-enter from hallway (only making one hole with this method. Explain to wife that the boards are to hold the wall up and you might as well put a track on it.)

All Layouts: Shorten workbench. Remove all chairs (You don't need to sit down while working). Move all hobby tools to outside tarp and only bring them in when you need them. Sell paint booth and use the shower stall in house for painting; it already has an exhaust fan.

I hope this has been informative and will add lots of available space for your hobby.
:D :D :D

Rexregarding the fifth law,,, I totally agree with you sir,,, pity the CFO doesn't, oh well

Steve Wire it up to a DC power pack, keep increasing the voltage till the bulbs pop then back off a-little, that's the maximum allowed:D ;)

,

Steve, Its really hard for some ex-POW's to talk about the horrors that they saw or experienced.

An old time model RR friend of mine never said anything to me either. After knowing him for over 25 years he never said a word. It wasn't until we found out he was suffering from terminal cancer that he told me his story. He was one of the Marines on Wake Island when it fell to the Japanese Imperial Army. He spent from 1941-1945 working the coal mines in Japan. The conditions he described and the treatment by the Japanese guards was something that no one should have to go thru. He said that if it wasn't for a Korean "guess" worker, ie slave, he wouldn't have survived.
