Afternoon, everyone.

I'm willing to join Rex in that woolly mammoth expedition. Low last night was 74 and it's a toasty 100 degrees at 12:50 PM. Yuck!

June 6th...D-Day anniversary. Those guys from my dad's generation were sure a bunch of brave soldiers. I wonder if we will ever see their like again?

Chris, you sure have a lot of horny teachers down there. :) I'm not sure I could get green dye spray for here that wouldn't look totally weird on my lawn. I'd probably end up getting more on myself then the lawn anyway.

Tom, sounds like you have a better plan for camping this year than last but I'll give you a thumbs up for even being willing to do it. You have a couple of sweaty, buggy nights ahead of you.

Corey, the space always looks smaller in person than on paper. You can adjust your plan down. I like scenery better than tons of trackwork anyway so it sounds like you'll still have some fun with the new layout.

Sandy, never did get down the Arkansas during high water but it's been on my list. Folks that I know that have done it says it's about the equal of the Colorado through the Grand Canyon except it doesn't take 13 days. I like rafting but I was ready to get off the water and back to Vegas after 13 days of almost continuous pounding. That story about the fake paramedic is weird. I'm sure that Colorado has a state registry as well as access to the national registry. I just can't see any way that he could have forged paperwork showing he had passed all those classes. When I got my paramagic cert, the school sent my transcripts directly to the CA Department of Health, who then sent my certificate. There's no way I could have forged any paperwork. Sounds like someone at AMR really fell down on this one.

Jeffrey, I'm hiring a guy to do some tree trimming for me. I don't have a tractor or trailer and no place to dispose of the debris. With this heat, I'm willing to pay just about anything.

Paul and Ray, at least you'll have to do some suffering with the rest of us. :) I'd give just about anything for some of that rain though.

Jim, I agree that the soldiers of that era were like no others...however, :) my brother flies F16s, my nephew flies KC135s and his brother (my nephew as well!) flies T6's right now, and I believe that they are true patriots. My brother was recently deployed in Balad where he was in charge of all the night sorties and came home with some amazing stories. He told us that the most unnerving thing he had to do was refuel at night. The F16s are refueled by KC135 and they have to refuel in complete blackout situations. Brian, my brother, said that he would 'pull over to the side' and offer a quick prayer for safe fueling. He said that the continued speeds were daunting. A few weeks after returning home, he got together with my nephew who flies the KC135s and asked how can the F16 guys get the KC135 crews to slow down for refueling. My nephew simply looked at him and said, "just ask us to slow down. We can fly as slowly as you want." Sheesh! That was all it took.

Here is a link to a decent refueling shot.

Afternoon/evening everyone!

Hey everybody!:)

Just got back from Bucaneer Bay! We were there from 10am to 4pm, what a great day on the River the water was cold and Clear! the sun was sunny and the air hot and humid. The Beach sand was so hot for a while I thought I had 3rd degree burns on the bottom of my feet! Glad the water was 70 degrees! A House fire started about 2 miles away from where we were as a result a wild fire started from the house fire:eek: ! all the kids scrambled to the slide towers to watch the helicopter drop water on the near by fire, I got to say I was one of those kids too! :D ;) Next time we go I'll bring my camera to share with you guys!
The afternoon thunderstorm are starting to pop up here and there, I hope we get lucky to night! Ryan and myself have a couple of yards tomarrow:D :) and my be if we ain't to tired we will try Pine Island Again!

One of our veterans is 112 years old today,,, how about that, takes more then a war to finish him off, he was a WW1 veteran

Evening all!

It was in tonights paper (the Finger Lakes Crimes..... er... Times)! A Finger Lakes Railway Train rammed a School Bus in Penn Yan yesterday! The bus was full at the time. Luckily the train was only going about 13 MPH when it hit the bus at a crossing. No one was seriously hurt (except the dummies in the bus)...

Had ya going for a moment didn't I... ;) :D It did happen but was a very carefully controlled demonstration staged to teach several Fire companies graphically what can happen when a disaster like this actually happens. The train went into emergency mode just as it hit the bus (an old bus purchased for the demo and filled with crash test dummies....). It stopped about 200 feet down the track. The bus was, of course completely demolished, but the loco (GE B-23) sustained only a bent railing on the front.

"Ladies and gentlemen, what you have just witnessed is every railroad engineer's worst nightmare: a gas truck or a school bus," Finger Lakes Railway Trainmaster Kevin Buckland told the surrounding crowd. Several firefighters and emergency responders had never witnessed a train accident before and were awed by the damage even at 13 MPH. Had there been kids in the bus, they would not have walked away from it......... Had the speed been at 30 MPH, the train would have stopped a mile down the track, it says.

(edit: BTW, the gas tank had been removed from the bus before it was towed to the site......)

In other news.... My Gawd was it hot here today. High was at least 92° and it is still in the 80's at 10:30 tonight. My single air conditioner (haven't installed the other one yet) was able to keep the house around 80° most of the day, but it sure felt great after being outside for a while. Windows will stay closed tonight......

Have a great night all!

Morning all!
Fun video, Steve. That is definitely cool. I showed it to the wifey and all I heard all the way out of the room was: No! No! No! No! ... :D :D

Afternoon, everyone.

Well, I got up at 7:30 to get plants for the deck thinking I could beat the heat. Wrong! It was already 80 by 8:00 and it's now 99. I think I'll take a break for the afternoon after pulling out about 10 trees size weeds. Even the weeds get huge down here.

Sandy, indeed, there are many brave men and women serving today and I didn't mean to imply otherwise. Air to air refueling at night from an F-16 is about as dangerous a job as you can have. I hope they all stay safe.

Chris, did you ever get any rain? 70 degree water is usually way too cool for me but I'd take the plunge right now.

Ray, we got to do something similar on the SP only with one of those van type school buses. We did it on a Sunday down by the industrial area in Oakland and had everything blocked off so no civilians could wander in and get hurt. The SP used a GP-9 that was scheduled for trade-in and hit that thing at about 35 mph with a 10 car train. Took him about half a mile to stop. The van was got caught on the plow and was carried right along, tearing up a good bit of ties and throwing ballast everywhere. That wasn't part of the plan. It was amazing how little damage was done to the Geep once two tow trucks finally pulled the mangled remains of the van away. There was a few small dents on the plow and some paint transfer. They built those Geeps pretty darned good.

Whoops, now I'm back after a three hour phone call with my son. I don't get to speak with him often and I always enjoy it.

Steve, very realistic shell damage on your panzer. Don't let that Sherman outflank you and get to take a shot at the rear radiator area. That was about the only spot a Sherman with a 75mm gun could make fatal shot on a Tiger I. Very neat video but I think I hear your layout calling. :)

Turns out we only got to 104. I thought we'd make it to 105 but maybe tomorrow. Still broke the old record of 100 though. It's down t a mile 97 now. Maybe in a few more hours, I can go out and finish planting my flowers without getting sunstroke.

Afternoon All ! just sopping in to say hello and going back out to enjoy this nice day here in Buffalo . It's 81 but there is a nice breeze to keep it on the cooler side. Well goota get outside so just hoping that you all are enjoying this fine Saturday !!!

Evening everyone!

Been another busy day of retirement here....... Just got home from 6 hours of tech rehearsal for the Middle School play. Over the last week I have tried several plans for possible miking of the show. Plan A was ruled out last Monday due to lack of headroom before feedback... Plab B was even worse, Plan C was absolutely horrible and sounded like....(well I won't use the word here). Plan D gave me negative headroom as feed back started way before you could hear the kids. So today we fired up Plan E. Each actor gets there own bodypack mike.... That appears to work!! Yippy!!!!!

Tonight I think I will mosey on down to the rain room and see if it is still there. Flo, no more coffee for me today. Steve doesn't need anymore either... he will just go shoot something with that new toy of his.... get another lemonade for Jim, he looks hot from all that work. See what Paul wants as well. Yep, put it on my bill!

Jim I passed it by today and had a look,,, but the urge overtook me.
just bought a set of 3/1 reduction gearboxes for my all metal tiger, this is a must for the 15lbs Tiger to achieve better more realistic performance, with the current set up it is on it's limits turning on grassy surfaces due to the track footprint and weight, believe it or not you have got 21 sqr inches of footprint each side.

was sunny today (ish),,, Ken M is basking in glorious sun today, and walking in snow and frost.

No! Dang sea breeze over shot us buy 1/4 mile, My one customer 4 blocks away got rain and I didn't! 70 degree water is tough to wade into:eek: but once in you don't want to leave:D .Body pain seem to melt away!:) :) :)

Today we got couple of yards mowed, then took my son to Oldsmar to get some Aquarium supplys at (Fish and other Ithcy things) Aquarium store! I got my son his actinic bulb for his tank, We tried a diffrent brand from our usual Current brand we have been using........... what a diffrence:eek: Can't wait to get some for my tank! We also got new clean up crew -10 scarlet Hermit Crabs and Twenty turbo/astrea snails. they had a crazy sale on them couldn't refuse um!
Tomarrow I plan to take Ryan back to Buc. Bay! I'll take some pics to share with everyone!

Hey we just got some rain here in the Finger Lakes........ Didn't amount to a lot, probably a 10th. of an inch, but enough to settle the dust. I won't have to pay for water tonight for the garden. May have to break down and mow lawn tomorrow if it doesn't get too hot. It has been over a week and is starting to get a bit high. Interesting Chris, you need it to rain so you can work and make a living, while I look at the lawn as a nuisance that just drains my wallet. If I can't eat it, I would just as soon not have it grow on my property!

If most people enjoyed mowing their lawns I'd really be out of work:eek: ! Thankfully for the heat down here that makes my business good, it would better if it would rain. Been mowing and growing grass for over 29 years, I had better enjoy mowing grass or i'm in trouble!

I just spent the last two hours watching the Monster Jam monster trucks world final. Adam Anderson (Taz) walked away with the top spot with a score of 36. His father, Dennis Anderson, (Grave Digger) didn't do so well. He broke a rear wheel off and exploded his transmission, finishing with a 30. Tom Meents (Maximum Destruction) finished almost before he started. He took a bad jump early, breaking a front wheel off and ending up upside down with a score of 6.
