Good Morning Folks ! Looks like things are heating up across the whole country . Were going up to near 80 today with high 80's by the weekend also. guess I have to breakdown and put the airconditioners in. We have a sad anniversary today . It's 40 years since Bobby Kennedy was assasinated . No man no matter his politics or whatever deserves to b killed . Steve I thing we have lost a railroader to war. Nice looking tank though . Well gotta get going and do some work . Hope everyone has a real nice day !!!!!!

Morning, everyone.

Rex, I'm with you. I like looking at Steve's tanks but I don't want to know anything more about all the cool things they do. That's the kind of thing that makes palms start to sweat, as in "I just have to have one of those babies". It's already bad enough with model railroad stuff. I can just imagine the look I'll get when I come through the door with "Honey, I'm home", hauling one of those things with me. :)

Paul, 40 years ago? Boy, it almost seem like yesterday. I was just a month out of the police academy and was working the night he got shot, although nowhere near the scene. Both the LAPD and LASO were responsible for his security. This was the days before the Secret Service provided protection to presidential candidates. It was a big blow to us since we liked to think of ourselves as the best law enforcement agencies in the country. He was pronounced at about 3 AM and I remember the dispatcher coming over the radio telling us he had died. She asked for a minute of silence and it's the first and last time I heard the LASO radios quiet for that long. Sad day. :(

The Bermuda high is really taking over the eastern part of the US and it does look like a hot weekend for everyone, those of us in the south included. The low last night was only 78 and it's already up to 88 at 10:15 am. I watered the lawns all day yesterday and today they look sort greenish brown instead of just brown. Even the native trees are showing the stress and starting to drop leaves. I sure hope we get some rain soon but it looks like a week at least before we have even a small chance. Rats!

Hey Jim I got an Idea for that brown lawn, ain't mine but a old Golf coarse trick! Get some green Turf Marking Dye used by golf courses comes in all sorts of greens and blues and it's totally safe. Mix with water and paint the lawn with a backpak sprayer or hose end sprayerGREEN last for a week! that's it and that easy! golf corses and all sports turf guys do it, they just don't say any thing;)
I might get killed for telling you...........Of to the BEACH! Be back someday:D

Afternoon all!

Finally got some pepper plants and seed for the garden. Still can't find broccoli seedlings though. I did drive past a Mennonite greenhouse with plants for sale on the way home, I will check there later (got past it before I saw it). I am going to try to get the garden ready to plant before heading out to school for play practice this afternoon and then maybe tonight I can get it planted. It will be cooler out then as well.

Steve that is some new toy you have there!

Catch you all later.

One of my vivid childhood memories is about this. I was five years old and my parents put me in the car and told me we were going to see a special train. They drove down to the end of Maddox Street in Leiperville next to the former Baldwin Locomotive Plant. We got out of the car and walked to the Penn Central tracks, now AMTRAK's NEC. My parents told me we were paying our respects to Robert Kennedy and the train taking his body home would be passing by. I can remember the tracks in the area being lined with about 50 to 75 people. A few moments later a black GG-1 rounded the bend hauling some blue passenger cars. On the end was a blue platform observation car with I think it was the presidential seal. The other thing that stuck with me was that while the train went by and afterwards no one spoke. The silence was surreal.

Good morning folks

It was an ugly 64 F as I headed down the road this morning. It will be getting uglier with a high of 85 F. We are now under a Excessive Heat Warning as highs will be in high nineties for the weekend.

I will be camping with my son’s Cub Scout pack this weekend. Of course the high temperature for Saturday will be 95 F which is the highest it has been all year. We will be sweating. We are already altering our schedule by moving some of the more physical activities into the morning instead of the afternoon.

We will be in a tent this year. Last year we stayed in the bunk house. Again we had temperatures in the high nineties last year. The bunk house had been closed up all week before our arrival and was ungodly hot when we got there. Since it was shaped like a ship it had small windows. At night we had the choice of suffocating in the stifling heat or leaving the doors open and dealing with the bugs which were in huge numbers because we were next to a lake. On Saturday night the camp’s water pump broke and we had no running water or bathroom facilities. When we were given the option to leave early we took it.

Since we knew the heat could be bad we have tried to plan for it this year. Since we have electricity we told people to bring fans. We will have plenty of water on hand and some of activities on Saturday are meant to get people wet. The big problem with last year was that there was no planning and no contingencies to handle the heat, thus it was a very unpleasant experience for many folks. The previous leadership was clueless on how to arrange anything. The former Cubmaster passed everything off onto the Assistant Cubmaster. All she did was complain about how busy she was, but when people would offer to help she would say she had it under control. Of course she didn’t and things that were supposed to get done did not. Also many people think she was using the camping trip last year as a free vacation for her family. When the water pump broke she was one of only three people who wanted to stay. Worst off I found out that none of the leaders last year had the required training for camping and we should not have been camping because of that. Sorry for the rant but we inherited this trip from the former leadership. It has been stressful for us to get things set-up since we were left with no information about what to do by the former leaders. Basically we have been making it up as we have been going along.

Next year’s camping will be different as we will do it as part of a Council sponsored resident camp. We will not being going it alone as a pack.

The A/C in the office is not working right now. It is 78 F in here now. The temperature has climbed 4 degrees since I got in. We can not open the windows. This is beginning to look like a short day.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning folks. I don't get the cable hooked up until Saturday, so I am cut off from the world! I had a reality check when we moved on Sunday. My new layout will be the smaller version that I was working on initially. I am going to scale back the trackage in favor of a more scenery. I know that I will get more satisfaction from building than running. In the end, it will be about 10x10, pit style with a two foot width all around. This layout will already dominate the room, I didn't want to go too crazy. Oh well, at least I can start fairly soon on builiding a layout instead of just talking about it.

I didn't go back and read the last week of posts. I'm on my in-laws computer until mine is hooked up so I don't have the time. I hope everyone is safe and happy these days!

Good Morning!
Jim...it sounds way too warm in Alabama! As much as I love Tuscaloosa, I reckon I will stay in Colorado for now. When I was living in North Carolina last year, I could not get used to the temps barely going down in the evening. Here in CO, it is unusual if we do not have a significant cool down during the night. It has been rainy for the past couple of days and we are having some flooding issues because of the rain and the mountain runoff. Great time of year to go rafting. June is the best time. Last time I went, we had class 5 rapids. Perfect! It was the first time that I had to get out of the raft and scout a path down the river. What was supposed to have been a full day raft trip turned out to only be 1/2 day because of the high flow speed of the river. It was the Arkansas River through Brown's Canyon. If you ever have the opportunity to try it, that is the best rafting I have done. What a blast!
I hope everyone has a cooler day!

I've been out working with my father this morning. He was cutting down tree branches and small bushes and I'd come along behind with a tractor and trailer and load them up. We had to stop just before nine. It was starting to get too hot to keep up that kind of work.

Good Morning ALL ! Looks like a= beautiful day here in Western New York . High near 86 with some clouds . last night we had some"Thunder Boomers"come through . Bill we must honor the young men who stormed those beaches on this day. They are now old men and dying off pretty darn fast. But they liberated alot of peolp and stopped the senseless slaughter.Sandy good to see you stop in for a cup of coffee, Hey ray when you get your seedlings pick me up dome tomato plants .Well have errands to do. Hope you all have a real nice day !!!

Mornin' everyone!

Already been over to school to change some mikes around. I will see if they work later during rehearsal.

Already up to 89°F here in the Finger Lakes. Got up this morning and closed the window in my bedroom immediately, then went out the to dining room and kicked on the AC. Was 80° in the house at 8......

Stopped in the Mennonite greenhouse and they don't have broccoli either.... Oh well, I will keep looking for a while. Should have got the garden in a month ago.
