Afternoon, everyone.

Carl, it's amazing what people do to pubic property. I was assigned to the schools security detail for a while in LA and we averaged 4 burglaries a night in a 100 school district. Half the time, they not only stole things, they trashed the whole building. :( That was back in the late 60's and I imagine it's even worse now.

Sorry for the Rant in Advance!

This is just a small sample of what can and does greet me M-F at 0700....

The 5 Top Woe's in my Park:
1. Used condoms, needles, drug stuffs on the play sets, Picnic tables, Bathrooms, Dug outs, press boxes, parking lot, and any where they tend to do it.
2. Poop (Human) in the bathroom sinks, urnals, Floors, play sets, and picnic tables.
3. Dog Poop, all over park, No one picks up after their dogs any more!
4. Soda poured all over any thing that is sat on, played on or ate off of!
5. Litter all around trash can but not in it!

not all of this at the same time is daily but I can get any number of these problems every morning.

I'm the lucky one who gets to clean it up before I rake and prep Ball fields for play that day! I'm sorry for the rant and vivid description I painted but i need to vent:rolleyes: :D My day today was just fun one:eek: I can say I earn my meger government pay! and also with amendment one that just passed the house, I can possibly look forward in the near future to getting a pink slip or transfered to where don't know? all in all I love my job never a dull moment!:D Now Get Me Mike Rowe I Got's a Dirty Job For Him!LOL's

I've been out watching me nephew working on his car. He couldn't figure out why it wouldn't run right. It was back firing and sounding like an old artillery piece. I looked at the plug wires and they didn't look right. I was thinking the two middle wires were wrong. I looked up the firing order in a Haynes Manuel. It's listed as 1-4-3-2. I looked at the wire arrangement on the distributor and guess what? It was wrong! It was 1-4-2-3. I told him but he wouldn't listen. He's a mechanic of four years experience and he knows it all. When he went in the house for a bit I, a mechanic of some twenty plus years experience, switched the wires around to what they should be right in front of one of his friends so I'd have a witness. When he came back I told him one thing an old mechanic told me once, and it's always worked for me, if something isn't working right give it a good whack. He figures he didn't have anything to lose so he gave it a good swift kick on the front bumper. He then told his friend to try starting it (we already had it cranked while he has in the house so we knew it would start) and he almost almost fell over when it fired right up. Then his friend let the cat out of the bag and told him what I had done. What could he do? He admitted that he was wrong and that was that. I just looked at him and told him 'And here you were saying uncle doesn't know anything'. I know enough to know that when something isn't working right, read the instructions! I may have teethed on breaker points and solid wire plug cables but the firing order on a four cylinder is no different than it was forty years ago.

Ha, if I remember right, that's exact firing order of my 1966 MGB and I did manage to get those wire crossed a few times. Just goes to show us old guys are still good for something. :)

Good morning everyone.

I have an interesting one for you today. About a week ago, the Federal Government temporarily moved into the National Cattle Congress grounds for what were first described as "training" sessions. It was believed that the group occupying the grounds was FEMA and that they were training for different disaster scenarios. Needless to say, no one around here really believed them. Well, yesterday it became quite evident what their real purpose here is. The group is actually ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and they had a raid at a turkey processing plant in Postville (about 1 hour NE of here) yesterday morning and arrested over 300 alleged illegal immigrants. The local newspaper has the article here. I made it by the Cattle Congress grounds yesterday afternoon during my daily bicycle ride and that place is shut up like Fort Knox with law enforcement from local, county, state and the federal level all over the place. The Feds are slated to be staying in the area until the 25th of May.

Good Morning ! Chris , Bill & Carl ! ANother nice day here on the Niagara Frontier , 48 going up ro 67 . I see alot of the country is have a bad time of it. Tornadoes in the Mid West and wildfires in Florida . Hope things calm down a bit. Jeffrey that is a funny story . Jim I feel for you on those concert tickets . No respect for anthything . Carl we have a lot of farms up our way and every summer around Harvest time , The Fed.s make a big show of it that they are doing their job and raid a farm to show that their doing their job. Good morning folks

It was 51 F this morning on the way to work. A totally different trip in this morning with sunny skies. Things are still drying out and there are still branches and other debris scattered every where. High today will be 71 F.

I have a meeting this morning and then I am taking off this afternoon. I will be meeting with our Cub Scout District Executive to discuss some pack issues. The most important being recruiting. After several years of poor and ineffective leadership our pack is in a crisis. After our Webelos 2 den crosses over we will be left with 17 scouts. There was a big recruitment drive several years ago and the pack was close to 60 scouts but two years of the previous administration destroyed those efforts. I also need to discuss some issues that have been leftover from the previous administration. Tonight we also have Roundtable with a barbecue.

No modeling last night. It was one of the nights where I am not sure what happened to the time. Helped my son with a report for school, and did a few scout things. We did sit down as a family and watch the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Carl, Postville must be quite the melting pot! I use to get quite a few Ukranian immigrants into my clothing store in La Crosse WI. They were all legal as far as I know. I can't imagine there are very many non immigrant folks living around there. It's kind of like Arcadia WI. Between Ashley furniture and Golden plump, there is ample opportunity for immigrant labor. There is not one non Spanish speaking employee on the kill floor of Golden Plump. That is truly an example of a job that nobody else wants to do!

I am getting closer to moving and building my new layout. I'm trying to resist the urge to buy track. I have to remember that bench work comes first. I plan to finish the bench work in a fashion that will look more like furniture than a work bench. My only problem is making the supports look good. I'm guessing that I won't be able to mount the tables on the wall. The taller I make the layout, the better it will look as far as believability. However, the taller I make it, the legs will start to look like a Giraffe on the narrow sections. Oh well, like everything things else in life, I'll have to find a happy medium.

Have a good day everyone! I'm up to my elbows with cardboard boxes and packaging tape. The tape gun is one of the useful things from my old store!

Hi All!
I have not posted for a few months, but I stop in to catch up every week or so. I feel like a bit of a voyeur, but I do enjoy the whole friendly atmosphere that you all have here. I am still in school full time and working full time and am looking for a part time job. I am not a math ace, but I think I am out of fractions!
Yesterday we had lovely Colorado Spring weather with about 79 degrees. Today it is snowing and in the 30's. Same thing happened last week. Gotta love Colorado.
Just wanted to stop by and say "howdy". Have a terrific day and thanks for letting me peek in!

Mornin' everyone!

Good to see you Sandy, I was wondering where you have been. I remember those days of teaching all day, going home to teach privately, working at a gas station, and going to college one or two nights a week to get my Masters Degree........

Chris, my Grandfather worked at a park in the 1940s and 1950s much of the same stuff was going on back then. Human nature doesn't seem to improve. We also need rain here in the Finger Lakes.

Jeffrey and Jim that was the firing order on the McCormack Deering 10-20 tractor............. Not sure on the VW bug?

Carl, so the Turkey farm met its "Waterloo"????? Guess we can expect the price of Turkey to go up.

I have a concert to do sound for tonight (band), but my meeting with the substitute vocal music teacher got canceled for the day as she is sick and has a sub for her as a sub........ Gets complicated sometimes. I got some work done on the layout last night. Doing some modifications of some old scenery that I put in place over 20 years ago. I'll post a thread in "showing off" later.

Have a good day!

Morning all and a big HI to SANDY!

Been busy this a.m. getting a few temp tracks down in the new yard. I am hosting a small Op session this evening with four operators and need to set it up so it looks like a working yard on the paperwork. Kind of jumping the gun, but some of my local group was having withdrawal symtoms:D . Should still be fun.

Carl, it is good to hear ICE is doing something...somewhere. Send them down here next.

Hope all have a good day!:)

Afternoon, fellow track spikers.

Carl, imagine that, a federal law enforcement agency finally doing its job! I'm sure there will be many stories of sad looking people complaining their families are being broken up...etc, etc. It's a wonder we aren't overrun with real terrorists since it seems like anyone can walk across the border any time they please.

Paul, I hope the antibiotics are working on your tooth and your blood work will be OK. Yep, those concert ticket prices are a little painful now but got to keep the wife happy so she won't complain when my next box of train stuff arrives. :)

Tom, too bad you're having such a bad time with that Scout group. Unfortunately, a lot of volunteer leaders are worth just what you pay them. :(

Corey, some nice drape material and Velcro works wonders on making the bottom of your benchwork look good. Gives you a good place stash stuff too.

Sandy, nice to see you. Being in school full time, working full time, and looking for a part time job? No one can fault you for lack of ambition, that's for sure.

Ray, I'm pretty sure the MGB engine was originally adapted from an English Ford tractor engine so I wouldn't be surprised if it had the same firing order as a tractor. I'm pretty sure a tractor was more reliable though. I still remember the hours spent getting those dual SU downdraft carbs balanced and replacing the starter motor about every two months. It was fun to drive when it was working but I just don't think the British should build cars. Who else would think a 12 volt electrical system should be fed by two 6 volt batteries wired in series?

Jeffrey, not sure what's happening here with the weather. There's a big blowup of thunderstorms in Mississippi and some seem to be starting to drift this direction. It was supposed to be sunny today and our dewpoint is only 50 so thunderstorms shouldn't be able to survive the dry air but they seem to be having a mind of their own today.

Rex, it looks like a line of thunderstorms is trying to develop between you and me. Sounds like a fun operating session even with the temporary yard tracks.

Getting packed to leave for Atlanta tomorrow. I'm hoping the rain holds off for the drive home Thursday but it's not looking too good. Oh, well, maybe I can find some hobby shops to wait out the storm. :)

It took how long to build the first transcontental RR. across this country? and today we can't put up a wall or something in less than a year across both boarders? while we have a good supply of workers locked up in jail to do the job! O'well:confused:

another fun day at work, to top it of at our quarterly brow beating, they still haven't decided on how their going to cut cost other than cut Maint. jobs? there's 19 open positions not getting filled as it is and were already critticaly low staffed as it is, and they are thinking of laying off more people? then in the same breath they tell us all the new micro parks that they just built? God you have to just love our local governments!  one more month and baseball is over!!!!!!!!!!!

Carl, so the Turkey farm met its "Waterloo"????? Guess we can expect the price of Turkey to go up.

Nice play on words Ray. :D It has definitely been the talk of the town today. We'll see if any more of it goes on since we have a large Tyson's operation right here in town too.

There's what seems to be a never-ending string of thunderstorms coming through here today. I'm on during a lull at the moment but I can hear more coming.

Went out and bought myself another car/truck/wagon today. Gots myself a 2007 HHR. I looked at a 2006 this weekend and they wanted 15,000 for it with 36,000 miles. I got the 2007 for considerably less and it only has 4,100 miles onit. I think i got a good deal but time will tell. It drives very nice adn the ride does not measure up to the 1991 Olds Regency it replaced but the gas milage is really good and at $4 a gallon that was a big consideration.
