Good day from not Ye olde London Towne, but from a rather nice HST somewhere south of York. Its a chilly 7c or 45f this evening. Tomorrow my train room / shed / brewery / guy room / bolt hole / sanctuary gets delivered.

Jeffery: keep on with your tales of modelling inspiration. You are making me jealous of the amount of work you do to your minature world.

Steve: Illegitimi non carborundum. Don't let the B*stards grind you down.

To all remember the Innuit saying: Its not cold until your pee freezes before it hits the snow. :-)

Afternoon, everyone.

Rex, I was fooled by the sound of cartridge nail guns several times. When you're in a place where you don't know any construction is going on, especially roofing, those things can sound like series of rapid fire gunshots. I got to recognize the pattern of nails being shot by roofers and framers so I could then tell it was nail guns and not real guns. I've only seen the smaller cartridge guns. I can only imagine how much fun it would have been trying to control a .38 caliber gum

Tom, I hate those upper respiratory infections where you seem to be coughing up a lung. If you haven't seen a doctor, I'd go and least get a prescription for codeine cough syrup. It will at least stop the constant coughing and allow you to get some rest.

Steve, nothing like more torture. :( I hope you are on the list to stay.

Larry, sounds like a small industrial locomotive like a Plymouth hauling four wheel side dump hoppers. There are a lot of those in Florida working phosphate mines and the trackage is never very good because it's moved depending on where they have to go to get more phosphate once one area is mined out. The few phosphate mines I've seen never seem to have good equipment or maintain it very well. Seems like it must be low margin business.

David, when the ARG was up at Irondale watching trains, there was one track on what I think was part of the yard lead that seemed to have no spikes on one end. Every car that passed over it would compress the rail and then it would pop back up again. I know my model trains wouldn't run over rail that badly aligned and it made me a little nervous standing 20 feet away wondering if the next car was going to make it over.

Just had another dry cold front go through. Our high of the day was 58 at 1:30. It's now down to 50 with a stiff north wind so it feels a lot cooler. I know that this probably sounds warm to a lot you guys up North but our thin blood just can't take much in the way of cold weather. :D

Damn, missed one.

Tom, may I suggest a rather nice single malt or a good shot of brandy and a hot tub for your nasty cold. It's worked wonders for me. You still have the cold but you don't really care. :-) I'm still feeling like mildly microwaved death after having the cold/flu/plague for the past week. BLECH!!!

Well, the temp's here have fallen and not gotten over 68* all day:eek: Tonigth it's going to dip into the hi 20's to low 30's. Another dang Yankee forgot to shut the door again;):DJ

The white is still not hiding our code the bloody code breakers will see our transmissions with ease! we will be suck back into the ranks. "we need a diffrent color!!!!!" shhhhhhh i here someone comming!:D

Hi all!
Just got back in from blowing out the water lines in the camper and adding anti-freeze to the traps. It's going down to the 20's here as well.

Jim, most carpenters use compressed air type nail guns, but they make a heck of a WAP sound. They make an electric, but their not nearly as good for professionals. Most powder type are used for special applications such as securing conduit or cable trays to concrete or block walls, shooting threaded studs into concrete floors for pump or motor mounts, securing things to steel beams, etc... Powder types now come with strips/belts for the charge, but also with individual charges that look like a typical blank cartridge

This photo was taken when it was 103 deg in the lower garage. Which would you prefer: the slow hammer, the very fast and efficient nail gun. This was an old and very heavy nail gun, but the safety devices were in working order. To easy to screw up without them. ;)

No CHRIS I did not forget top close the door I left it open on purpose. I just love sharing the cool weather with y'all. LOL LOL LOL I have been on my feet since 7:30 this morning and just love sharing anything that I can with you less fortunate folks of a Southern format.

Howdy, Andrew, missed your post. Sounds like London is getting all set up for a good Dickens Christmas. I hope all goes well with your combination structure. :)

Rex, I've had my water lines drained for about a month just in case. I've never used antifreeze in the traps but all the water piping is inside the structure of the Trek and it's hard to freeze water in there even if does get into the 20's. In theory, it should get even colder tomorrow night but it's already down to 41 and it sure feels like a hard freeze coming. And yes, I'd use a nail gun in heartbeat working in that garage, assuming I didn't pass out from the heat first.

Larry, you can close that door any time now - it's plenty cold enough for us weaklings down here. :D

Jim, the anti-freeze is the non-toxic kind for RV's and you only add about a half cup to traps. It really takes a bitter cold day and temps in the teens at night to start freezing things. I never had anything freeze up with other campers, but this one being brand new...I'm a bit paranoid :o. I didn't do all this earlier as it really hasn't been that cold and we had planned to go out again. Now I guess we will wait until first of the year, after New Years. Love winter camping.:)

EDIT: Jim this is the link to the Glockstore and the magazines. They say it Glock factory Magazines.

Rex, I know the antifreeze you're talking about, I used it when I had the Trek stored Nevada, where it did get down below zero. I'm hoping we don't see that here. Safari did a good job enclosing all the piping so the only things exposed are the water tanks and drains. Even the water and waste tanks have Styrofoam insulation around them. They were built with full-timers in mind who wouldn't be able to drain their tanks just because it got cold. Theres a vent from the furnace that runs directly to the water hookup bay so there's enough warm air to keep the pipes above freezing if you're living in it, like I was. I went through several sub-zero nights in the mountains of New Mexico and never had a broken pipe although I spent the nights worrying a lot. :)

I guess Glock came out with that 15 round magazine to compete with all the aftermarket models. I still don't trust them. I've got a Glock 17 and bought a 20 round magazine. Not only was it almost impossible to load by hand due the heavy spring, the few few rounds were much more likely to jam as the tensioned spring tended to load the round at a slight angle. Maybe the 15 round isn't such a spring issue. I'll look forward to an actual shooting report to see what you think.

Don't know how it is in T-Town but it's 30 here and dead calm with a dew point of 15 degrees. We should get down into the mid-20's tonight and the low 20's tomorrow.

Good morning.

It's 37 and clear. The high will be around the mid 60's and it will be partly cloudy.

Didn't get much done on the layout yesterday as I'm getting used to this new antibiotic the foot doc has me on. He said it would cause some drowsiness initially. One thing I did get done was to make up a load for my 50' D&RGW gondola. It's several loco axles, some tin sheets, a bunch of knuckle coupler clones and some assorted junk. (See link at end of this post)

Good Very Early Morning from Coarsegold,
Well Jim and Rex you guys are starting to get the cold weather early it seems yet it already snowed here but higher up and about 20 miles away so the cold weather will be setting in here soon as I saw a flock of Geese flying South yesterday I think it was.
It's 2:30Am and still 45*F so it pretty warm compared to you guys but my turn is comming. I remembe about 12 years ago for a whole week the temp never got over about 26*F during the warmest part of the day. It actually got a bit scary not knowing if it was going to warm up? It was like literally living in a deep freeze the ground was froze solid! The only thing that saved us was having a good supply of fire wood to burn.
That's something else I need to get busy doing too is cut some wood.

Say you lucky guys with your long Magazines for your Glocks, the longest I can have is 10 rounds thanks to DF, BB & now NP, I guess they never heard of the BILL Of Rights which happens to fall on my birthday or more apropriately my birthday falls on B Of R day! Say why don't you guys get some easy loaders for your self to aid you in loading the last few rounds, it sure makes it a lot easier than trying to force the last couple rounds into a nearly Mag. There pretty reasonable too.
That's something I need to do more of and that's target practice, I probably forgot how to point the gun! LoL

Happy Shooting and Railroading, just don't let anybody hear about you taking advantage of the little folk just cause you've got the gun and they don't.

Have a good day and week!

Good morning folks

It was 27 F as I headed out this cold crisp morning. High today will be 37 F.

The weather for Friday and Saturday while cool look good. We have a Cub Scout overnighter at the Ashland Nature Center in Delaware. Several of the activities are outside and we are hoping that there is no rain or snow.

Another long day at work meant no trains once I got home. Tonight we have Cub Scout pack meeting.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Morning all!

OK, It's that time of year to take our annual senior citizen test.

Exercise of the brain is as important as exercise of the muscles. As we grow older, it's important to keep mentally alert. If you don't use it, you lose it! Below is a very private way to gauge your loss or non-loss of intelligence.

Take the test presented here to determine if you're losing it or not. The spaces below are so you don't see the answers until you've made your answer.

OK, relax, clear your mind and begin.

1. What do you put in a toaster?

Answer: 'bread.' If you said
'toast,' give up now and do something else.
Try not to hurt yourself. If you
said, bread, go to Question 2.

2. Say 'silk' five times.
Now spell 'silk.' What do cows drink?

Answer: Cows drink water. If you
said 'milk,' don't attempt the next question.
Your brain is over-stressed and may even overheat. Content
yourself with reading a more appropriate literature such as
Auto World. However, if you said 'water', proceed to
question 3.

3. If a red house is made from red
bricks and a blue house is made from blue bricks and a pink
house is made from pink bricks and a black house is made
from black bricks, what is a green house made from?

Answer: Greenhouses are made from
glass. If you said 'green bricks,' why the hell are
you still reading these???
If you said 'glass,' go on to Question 4.

4. It's twenty years ago, and a
plane is flying at 20,000 feet over Germany (If you will
recall, Germany at the time was politically divided into
West Germany and East Germany.) Anyw ay, during the flight,
two engines fail. The pilot, realizing that the last
remaining engine is also failing, decides on a crash landing
procedure. Unfortunately the engine fails before he can do
so and the plane fatally crashes smack in the middle of
'no man's land' between East Germany and West
Germany. Where would you bury the survivors? East Germany,
West Germany, or no man's land'?

Answer: You don't bury survivors.
If you said ANYTHING else,
you're a dunce and you must stop. If you said, 'You
don't bury survivors', proceed to the next question.

5. Without using a calculator - You
are driving a bus from London to Milford Haven in Wales. In
London, 17 people get on the bus. In Reading, six people get
off the bus and nine people get on. In Swindon, two people
get off and four get on. In Cardiff, 1 1 people get off and
16 people get on. In Swansea, three people get off and five
people get on . In! Carmath en, six people get off and three
get on. You then arrive at Milford Haven.
What was the name of the bus driver?

Answer: Oh, for crying out loud!
Don't you remember your ow name? It was YOU!!

PS: 95% of people fail most of the questions!!

OK, I'll quit picking on you now! (I failed too!)

Good morning folks. I made great strides on my layout yesterday. I temporarily lay ed the rest of my road bed. Then I cut away the paper template that was used as a guide. Now I need to start gluing the cork down to the foam bench work. I will laying track before I know it! I have a mandate from my nieces and nephews. There WILL be trains going in a circle when they come over for Christmas! It will be a blue prairie, work in progress circle, but darn it, there will be trains!

I think the high was thirty degress yesterday. We also had twenty mile an hour winds. All we were missing was the snow. Oh well, in January we'll wish for thirty degrees!

I hope everyone has a nice day!

Well a short stay of execution was granted today, for a week anyway, i was not in todays unlucky group,,, but next time i am.
:D
ha ha ha Chris, YeeHaaa we are blending in well with the OSSA gang, but we must keep a low profile or we'll be in the salt mines for ever, Hey Watch out, the enemy above must be useing a different code, look at all the blank spaces he left

Hope that next time is a long ways off.
DITTO! Very long long time.

The temp down to 24deg last night;the fireplace felt good. Does anyone have an idea on how to stop dogs from digging in the yard. I have tried everything:rocks in the hole, poop in the hole, covering holes with anything I can find. Some mornings I go out and it looks like a surface mining operation going on. I get on to the oversized pups: they cowl down, look real sorry, turn my back, mining resumes operation.:D

Jim Don't you think if a cop was called to Rex's house at the time of that photo would had the pucker factor going on! Nobby knees, Hammer and nail gun! Man that is scarry!LOL's
Chris: Actually, that is a poster for "Wussy Magazine" showing alternatives to AK47's, M16's, Uzi's, RPG's, used for home protection.:D
KNOBBY KNEES?? That's just fat roll. LOL:D

Philip: I guess that I passed being a Senior. I failed. :D
