Chris Edit when did you change your name to edit ??? We had a very good morning,,,in the cold. It's the highest point around for miles and if your in the shade it's freezing. i almost tore my thumb off around 10 years ago in the same spot in mid January, it was around -14 and the land rover wheel hit a hidden rock, the steering wheel spun round at a zillion miles an hour and ate my thumb, the nail went right off along with a sliver of flesh, and at -14 it bloody hurt.

Sorry, Comrade Steve tring to be PC about things;)Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I don't want the Man to hear political stuff comming from me I love it here!.........:D;)

Drive when it's -14! I'd rather stay in nice warm bed with the Mrs'!:D;)

Good morning fellas! Sorry I haven't been around here much (work has been stoooopid busy).

Chris: Snow...well, it sucks! But I do have one power tool you'll never have - a snowblower! :)

Mark

Yes, that u do! But I have tools you don't! Sun screen SPF 60, Beach towel, and beach chairs to use on miles of warm beaches!:D:D:D Keep your old snow blower:D:) Don't need it on the beach!:D

Chris- You better hope the MRS. doesn't catch you snuggled up to the Miss' !!!

I left the Cleveland, Ohio area several years ago, headed south, with my snow blower strapped to my truck.
I decided to stay in Birmingham, Alabama when I stopped for gas and the attendent asked me, "What's that thing?":D

Nail guns CAN be very dangerous! I've had several times where a three inch staple went through my hand because the gun went off at the wrong time. All it has to do is tough something and POW.

Ok, Steve-O! For my evening dinner I will have Escargot for an appetizer, Beef Bourguignon for my main dish, and Cherries Jubilee over homemade vanilia ice cream, to finish the evening. Thank yew!

Come on guys! Nail guns ("Nailers") are not any more dangerous than any other powered tool, if you know what your doing in the first place. That means proper instruction on operation and safety. (Eyeballs have been injured by flying everythings and just from hammers.) There are two safetys on a nail gun: one, you have to force the gun against the wood before pulling the trigger, and two a switch type safety that locks the gun. You have to be careless, as with most accidents, to fire a nail without wanting to or deliberately circumvent the pressure safety at the nailing end.

Because of deliberate circumvention of the safety, Nail gun fights are excluded from this reasoning of this paragraph. Jim that has to be the funniest thing I've heard in awhile.:D:D

We have a couple staplers that have lost their safety tips, so they fire when you pull the trigger.

My personal favorite tool is the nailers that use a charge to shoot in the nail. We recently got one. Man are those things fun (and yes, extremely dangerous)

Good grief! That's asking for trouble.

Yeah Dan, I've used those made by Ramset many times sinking 1/4"-1/2""threaded studs. The biggest danger with them is using an overcharge for the material you are trying to attach to or having a wrong depth setting. If the stud goes through, they will keep on going .

Yes, LTF, nail gun fights do seem kind of stupid but that case was the only one that was still in progress when we rolled up. I'll bet I've taken 10 reports over the years of nail gun injuries as the result of two guys going after each other with nail guns. It got a lot better once contractors cracked down and stopped letting their guys drink beer all day while they were working.

Rex and Dan, those nail guns that fire charges instead of compressed air were a never ending source of problems for us. I guess each charge is the equivalent to a .22 bullet and they can sound like gunshots when they are in use. We were constantly getting gunshots in progress calls when it was nail guns. We finally had contractors trained to call into dispatch and let them know if they had a big job going somewhere so we didn't have to drive out to a site and look at all those butt cracks. :D.

It's clear and breezy tonight as we get another dry cold front passing through. The wind is keeping the air temperature up to 44 degrees but it's 35 with the wind chill. No snow blowers needed though. :)

Jim, I can imagine the calls. They come in .22, .25, and .27cal. They used to have .32cal. and I thought .38 for the BIG BIG job. I had to attend a training class before I was allowed to use one. They are great when working with steel or concrete. i never used them on anything else.

We got a small one for when we do wiring jobs to shoot brackets into concrete ceilings.

We have used it at home a few times. I used it to anchor up the shelf for part of my layout, saying the room is half concrete block walls. It was easier and quicker then drilling in a whole and screwing in an anchor.

We have a .22 one. I find it funny because it is louder then any .22 I have shot, but I suppose once you take into account being in a smaller enclosed room and the echo adds up.

Good morning.

It's 47 and clear. Today's high will be around the lower 60's and it will be clear.

Yesterday I finished work on my 4 track pedestrian walkway that will eventually be spanning the tracks at the back of my layout. It's a Model Power copy of a Heljan kit but that didn't keep it from being any more complex. Such a structure would be a fantastic train watching spot and would afford great aerial shots. I also relit the north engine house yesterday. It's now nice and bright in there at night.

Today's Weather for:

Good morning folks

It was a cold 32 F as I headed out this bright morning. Our high will be 42 F. The predicated overnight snow showers did not happen so the drive in only had the normal craziness.

Had a long day at work and expect another today. I actually got some overtime which is a rarity for me. I did not get any modeling last night. I sat down with the wife and kids after dinner and watched Ironman on Pay per View.

I am still battling this virus. I wish I could take a deep breath without setting off a coughing spell.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Yesterday it was 32*F & got up to about 60*. I took the day off(retired) from modeling & went to Winterhaven. hadn't been there for about 10 years & it's just 60 miles north of me. Saw a small switcher of some kind pulling 3 short gondola's that looked like they dumped from the side. They had a mixture of phosphate & large boulders on each car. As usual didn't have my camera w/me. As I pulled over to look 1 of the cars derailed on a bad section of track. They were only going about 10mph & someone started yelling to Stop. Finally after about 200 ft. the guy stopped. I stuck around for about 10 mins. Figured it would take a crane to get it back on the rails. Only one end jumped the tracks. The cars & engine looked to be about 50 years old. Parts hanging off all over the place.
Talking about Nail Guns. I was 1 of the 1st one's to see & work on nail guns back many years ago. I was in training w/Bostich in Tampa for a 4 week stint when they introduced nail guns. They were massive then w/the coil of nails at the back. I haven't seen any for years & they have probably changed a lot since then. A lot of contractors & their employees had to go thru training w/me to get their guns for big jobs. Then I took care of all repairs & rebuilds. A lot of the guys would take off the safety on the nose & I would replace it everytime. Back then a lot of serious accidents that required hospitalization. I think that was around 1964 or 65.
Well, gotta go, Movie day, tues. Movie gallery opens at 10am.

Larry

Never seen anyone mess with a nail gun, Only an idiot would do that, they are a tool and thats it. Eeejuts

well it's red letter day tommorow, we are all getting 90 days notice and then they'll pick who they want !!! nice.

Gives you the butterflies in the stomach

you bet your bottom dollar ;)

Comrade Chris, Who's in the house, the OSSA's in the house, and they can't see this, always look for the green smiley for secret text ha ha ha

Good Morning to All,
It 46*F here in Coarsegold, CA. sunny and should be a nice day.

I've got a number of things to do around here but will try to get some more work done on the layout. Got to keep the little folks happy you know.

Say Larry, that was rather unique to have that happen when you pulled up. I don't know of any time when I've actually seen a derailment of the real trains.
I can remember an Engineer friend telling about how the rails in the yard would actually lift up in front of the engine due to soft spots I guess. He said it was rather scary and that the only thing that kept the trains on the track was their weight.

Have a good day and take care.
