Good morning folks

It was 39 F as I hit the nightmare roads this morning. High will be 43 with heavy rain. We are under a Flood Watch through the overnight. We could even get a period of snow overnight.

This morning was the third morning in a row where trying to get to work was a nightmare. Accidents and road closures were everywhere. Once again I had to bushwhack and back track. It took me close to an hour and a half to get to work. We have now had three morning commutes with rain and people forgetting how to drive. I dread the first snow storm.

We had Cub Scouts den meetings last night. I did get a chance to begin assembling a P2K double-decker Mather stock car.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Morning all!

Yup, it's still morning. Barely! Had to check real quick.

Busy day in the phone world with all of this weather.

Whats up with all of you?

Afternoon all,

school disco night tonight so got about 30 mins before all hell breaks loose

Ken The guy i saw is right up the top of his tree, way above doctors, he's a very clever guy

Jim Rex i never thought it would snow in the south like that, and Houston, i thought that was always sunny and hot

wait, someones buying breakfast?

I'll have whatever you're all having. :D

reminds me of back when I had a real job, the crew would meet up at a tiny little greasy spoon in an out of the way location, we'ld hide all our work trucks inthe parking lot behind the building so we couldn't be seen from the road, (just in case a manager happened to be driving by) and have the all day breakfast. 3 eggs over easy, LOTS of crispy bacon, home fries to die for, coleslaw and endless coffee. $2.95

we did that every day for 4 months, while on a special job. I gained 15 pounds.
theres' a downside to everything I guess.
:D

I know what you mean. Some of the worst looking places seem to have the best food, even if its health department rating is the lowest:D. Years ago, I had a temp job as a welders helper. On the work site, there was an old lady that had a rundown Airstream trailer converted into a short order diner. Wouldn't sit but about 6 at a time. She served a breakfast plate that would fill a truck driver and some of the best, greasiest hamburgers in the world. We called it the Roach Coach. LOL:D

Jim/Ken: I don't know if you are aware, but BLI/PCM website now has a forum where you can post your woes with their locos. I did that last night and got a response from Matthew at BLI this a.m. He suggested I do a DC reset with a DCMaster, which I don't have. (Loksound has unique properties for DC or DCC operation.) I asked if there was another way, but I will probably have to send part or all of the loco to them. I will wait until next week so the Y6's will be available to run Saturday.

Jeffrey: Your fuel pump problems reminded me of my '76 Dodge pickup. Great running truck, but I would bet that I replaced the fuel pump 6 times. I got pretty good at doing it roadside and even placing the near impossible upper mounting bolt.

Looks like we may get 1" of SNOW:eek:. That is the white looking stuff that falls from the sky, right?

are you a phone tech? repair? cable?

I was a repairman for years. First woman in Canada to be hired by Bell Canada ever. Fun job. in the summer. in the winter, not so much.

Hilarious. Only a man could say his truck runs great in the same sentence with had to replace the fuel pump six times on the side of the road.

:D :D :D

thanks for the chuckle!

Hahaha! LTF, I guess there are some things you just figure are part of the norm.:D

The great snow missed us by 50 miles to the West. Columbus, Mississippi got 4 inches...we got zip, zero, nuttin'. New Orleans got snow; a place in Southern Mississippi got 8".
So the story goes with snow in the South. :)

Snow what dat:confused:

Well, we haven't had any snow officially either. But I was outside a minute ago, and sumpin' is definitely falling. Whether its snow, or rain, I can't tell. Sure is windy! According to our local weather guru, is supposed to be clear all over the area. Coulda fooled me! Just as cloudy as heck out there!

Got my official results from my stress test yesterday and it was perfect! The MDs noted some vascularity changes on the echo part, but they said that was due to my BP, and was not harmful! Yea!:D:D:D

With Christmas coming shortly, all work on the layout has definitely ground to a halt! Back in Oct, I was dealing with my surgery, and Nov I had no strength. Now I want to work on it but the Holidays has that screwed up soooo..... maybe Jan will be better.

We're supposed to go to Little Rock tomorrow to see the daughter, and am gonna try to get some pixs there. Due to it being UP there, I've really got to be careful of the bulls. Someone stated, either here or on another forum, that they were taking pix from a bridge that goes over the tracks, and the UP bulls called the LR police on him! Amazing!

Good early morning everyone,

LTF, you seem like an interesting person to sit around with and have coffee for a few hours. Sounds like you in the Women's Movement before it had a name. :)

Howdy, Paul hope you had a good day.

Phillip, how things with you? That was an interesting story in the link you posted. Seems a little odd that a cop with a GPS locater in the car wouldn't have also have had a portable radio. It's also a bad idea to give someone who's been shot pain medication by mouth. But, I understand the sentiment of the story.

Rex, we had a place right on the San Francisco waterfront called Red's that we'd walk too when we were fed up with work. They had floors that probably hadn't seen a mop in years but the best cheeseburgers anywhere. That and a couple of beers made the afternoon seem a lot better. :) Didn't know about the BLI forum, I'll check that out.

I had a 1966 MGB and it was the starter motor with that thing. About once a month, the Bendix spring would collapse and I'd use a big pry bar to get it to pop out again. After about five times of this, the starter motor was a goner and needed replacement. I always carried a spare in the trunk (boot to you, Steve) and could replace one in 10 minutes flat.

CJ, glad to hear the stress test came back looking good. The UP railroad police are a pretty over-reactive bunch since 9/11. As long as you're on public property, the locals will just come out and check your ID to make them happy. I receive a law enforcement magazine and they had an article about the UP police. They are now up to 345 officers with 20 K9 units, two helicopters, and five mobile command posts. Their chief said his officers were on the forefront in the war against terror. This from a guy who can't get his property well enough secured to stop graffiti taggers.

Never got any snow here either although it felt cold enough to snow. Got almost two inches of rain the past two days with no severe weather so I'll take it. It is strange how that cold air rotated around the low to south but then died once it got to Alabama. Like Rex said, such is snow in Alabama. I'm not complaining though since I have to put up the Christmas lights tomorrow and doing it in snow would add a little too much Christmas cheer for my tastes. :D

Good morning.

It's 37 and clear. The high is expected to be in the upper 50's and it will be partly cloudy.

Spent part of yesterday testing some old power packs that I'll be sending out to people who have asked for them. Out of 7 tested only 1 showed up as bad so the rest will be sent out. Three are the standard Bachmann controllers, 1 is a BAchmann Spectrum controller and 2 are Athearn Train Packs. Good morning folks

It was 39 F as I headed out this morning. High today will be 42 with more rain. We had close to 3 inches of rain overnight. Many roads are closed due to flooding. Even with the flooding this was the first morning in four that I did not have an adventure getting to work. It took my normal amount of time.

I worked some more on assembling the P2K Mather stock car and I started another one. I am almost done having to put the trucks on, install the couplers and add a few other details to both cars.

This weekend will be grocery shopping and family Christmas pictures. I would like to finish the stock cars.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Hey folks! It's a LOVELY day in the neighborhood :D

Been a while since I posted here, although I do like to sneak in and make sure everyone is doing okay.

Phillip...thank you for that story. I am such a sucker for a good Christmas tale.

Rex...with all the chat about the big game, I was remembering a few years back when I was lost in the South. Had to drive from Columbus MS to Ft Valley GA and I am flippin' directionally challenged  I somehow found my way to Ft Valley...but had to reverse the trip the next day. A 300 mile trip had taken me 10 hours. Sheesh...I did not want to make that trip back! My uncle in Ft V gave me detailed directions and told me that when I was on the highway I would know that I was going in the right direction if I saw about a billion cars going the OTHER direction with crimsom colored flags and such. Alabama was headed down to GA to play the Bulldawgs ;) Sure enough...during a panicky moment, I looked over and saw the caravan of 'Bama fans headed in the other direction. What a lovely sight! Then I hit Tuscaloosa and the rest is history!! :D
Hey...how about some photos of your puppies? I bet they are getting so big!

Jim...thought it was hilarious that you honed in on the medical and technical aspects of Phillips Christmas story! I worked EMS for several years and find myself doing the same thing!

Carey...my Dad had a cardiac stress test last Friday and on Monday had an angiogram. Then he overdid it on Tuesday and ruptured something...and spent the next 2 days in the hospital. He went home yesterday night and is feeling significantly improved. I am glad your tests went well!

Jeffery...Nov/Dec have been a challenge for you! I am glad that all went well with replacing your glasses. I wear contacts most of the time, but without them or my glasses, I would be lost. Driving would be out of the question and I would just have to hope that I could walk into a room without walking INTO a room!

Got through a little snow, about 6" last week and we are set to be hit with about 10" come Sunday. I used to drive through these storms with no qualms, but since my time in NC, I have become a bit of a white-knuckler in blizzards. Oh well...

Sheesh! I have really rambled! Hope you all have a great weekend and keep up the fun chat!

Sandy
