Good morning folks

It was 48 F as I headed out into the pea soup this morning. Yes, driving in the fog around these parts is an adventure. High today will be 62 F and we may see some sun.

We had Cub Scout Den Meetings last night. We are also in the full scale panic before the Blue and Gold banquet on Saturday. Handling all the last minute details is driving us nuts.

Nothing happening on the modeling front until the banquet is done.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning folks!

Jeffrey, sorry to hear about your uncle.

When I lived in La Crosse WI, they had the Blue Angels and the Thunder birds there quite a few times. Whenever there was an air show the automobile accidents would increase. People were too distracted while driving. I was told that the reason the performance teams came so often was their success in recruiting in the area. Apparently they found quite a few people that were inspired by the awesome display.

I meet a fellow model railroader at work the other day. He is a retired dentist who had a large outdoor layout at his home. He sold the home and moved into a twin home recently. He is now building an indoor G scale layout. He also has a sizable collection of HO equipment that he thought I would be interested in seeing. I've been invited to his home to see his progress. I think I'll take him up on the offer next week. When he told his wife that I was the guy interested in trains she said, " oh, your poor wife"!:)

I have another long day at work today. Tuxedo season is in full swing now. I just have to remember that the money is great. The process is not! I'd take a suit customer over a wedding party any day!

Have a great day!

Good morning all!
Looks like much of the South will have active thunderstorms at least part of today.
I had to run between the rain drops from my pickup to the office door this morning. It shows you how hard it was raining when an old fat man can run (puff! puff!) a 100 yards and not get soaked.
I was checking to see if Bill Tilden had been heard from. Hope he is enjoying a warm vacation.
LTF- very good to see you gracing the forum with your exercise options and arena dust!
Rex- don't let the Blue Angels distract you too much, or a train derailment could deposit a new junk pile on your floor.
Jeff- I saw an old two-stall roundhouse that had been converted into a 18 wheeler repair and truck sales facility. You could do something like that on your layout.
Y'all have a nice day!

Hello--We're at 7C right now going up to 16C in the sunshine:D:D. Oh, BTW--Our longrange forecast looks kinda funny--get rain one day, sun the next then we're going to be seeing SNOW next Monday with a high of 1C --yuck:mad::mad:

We don't see any planting around here till mid May sometimes:mad::mad:

Jeff Sorry about your uncle's passing. Take care ---
Another idea for an old roundhouse--we had here in London a restaurant called The Great West Beef House. It was housed in what used to be a roundhouse used by Michigan Central way back when----

We used to have an airshow up here. We'd see them come in and leave the airport at all hours before/during/after the show from the comfort of our backyard because we seemed to be right under their flightpath--that and only being at the time about a 15-20 walk from the place helped---:):)

Well got to get going and doing stuff--have a good'un--:D:)

CSX_road_slug;122668I finally finished gathering everything for my Fugate article said:
. There's no way it will ever look like a Lou Sassi photo, but I included 3 variations and will let Joe decide which one to use.

KenL Bring it with you this weekend! We're bound to get some good shots at the show! I've already got the RDMT and its "mother" packed!

Jeff, My condolences to you and yours.

Sparky, Have you been using your desk as a stepladder???

Jeff,Jim & Rex,. Batten down the hatches guys, looks like your in for a rough one!

Gotta finish packing for the Scale Show this weekend! 2 days of running trains, woohoo!:D

L8ter!

Good Morning all!
I found out today that much of the racket yesterday was from the Angels giving chosen civilians a ride in their F18's. The people are chosen carefully for their achievements in community and national service. Other members of the Angel team came in today for their familiarization, etc. In fact, one just flew over the house.
Here is a link to the Air Show information http://www.tuscaloosa.schultzairshows.com/

EDIT: Wow, a couple of them just went by in slow formation. This is GRAND!

Rex: Stop making me jealous!

LTF and Karl: I actually broke part of the desk months ago, the back brace to keep it square. It finally broke all the way and the legs bowed to one side. I was able to save everything before it collapsed. That is cheap press wood for you.

Afternoon, everyone.

Jeffrey, sorry to hear about your uncle. I hope he had a long and happy life.

Mikey, Rex, and the rest of the Alabama gang, there's a really mean squall line crossing the state line right now. It looks like a tornado producer is headed for Tuscaloosa so heads up, Rex. This is a squall line that is ahead of the cold front and looks like it will effect the entire lenth of Alabama so keep your weather radio on and stay ready to take cover.

I'm still worried about Bill, :(

LTF, you probably saw the Snowbirds performing. They fly the oldest jets used by any military aerobatic team in the world, the Canadair CT-114. Some of the aircraft are now over 30 years old and the accident rate is starting to increase so the government needs to make a decision soon on replacements or disbandment. They do a great performance though.

Corey, I imagine most of our wives would sympathize with other model railroader's wives. Maybe there should be a support group, like Al-Anon, but for the victims of model railroading addiction. :) Good luck with the prom season - it should be over soon.

Ken, I'm sure those pictures will be excellent. You are your own worst critic.

About the only thing I miss working in San Francisco is Fleet Week, when we'd have the Blue angels screaming right up Market Street. Man, what a show!

Looks like southern Alabama is getting hammered now and the storms are about an hour and a half away from us. Time to go get the cat vacuum. :D

We got pret'near to 20C. Had one client today have nurse put A/C on as all her windows faced South--;);)

Any word about Bill yet?--hope everything is OK with him---:confused:

To all of you down there with all that rain--take extra care tonight--that radar don't look to good---

Man I had a blast today watching some of the Angels practice before the weather got bad. They flew across the Airport from all points of the compass many times, did turns and rolls, etc. Twice I saw them duck their tail under and head near straight up into an upside down position and fly off. This went on for over 2 solid hours and I don't think my mouth ever shut. I was outside trying to take pictures, but I don't have a camera like Grandeman. I missed the shots where they were directly overhead...they were just too fast...really fast! (got several shots of empty sky:D:D)

My wife is twisting my arm to go to the show with a friend. His wife doesn't want to endure the whole day out there so he has me as a backup. The pain is so bad in my arm, I just might go .

Here are a few teasers.

Hiya guys
Well, the truck is packed, the trailer too, and me and the modules will be leaving tomorrow and setting up at the Great Scale Show in Timonium tomorrow after noon. Sometimes it amazes me how much work goes into this thing 4 times a year! Not only packing up the modules and the paraphenalia that goes along with it, but the other "prep" work I did this week. Oil & Filter for the truck. Truck and trailer washed,(gotta look sharp), plus a new thermostat (it stuck), and 20 gallons of go-go juice in the tank. Then gathering up stuff to sell, selecting engines and cars to run at the show, Packing up a workable tool box trying not to just dump the workbench into it. Then schleping all this stuff up the basement steps and carefully packing it in the truck and trailer. Then the 45 minute drive (each way) on Friday for set up with the rest of the FCSME gang. Takes a good 3-4 hours (IF everyone is on time!) to set up 5-6 scale miles of mainline. Then 12 hours on your feet Saturday and Sunday running trains (Yeah!:D) only to tear it all down (2 hours) and haul it home Sunday and put it away!

I'm not griping mind you. Its just that sometimes I wonder if the public realizes what goes into these displays other than the building of each module? Very few of us only have 4 ft of modules to deal with. Several of us carry anywhere from 12-48 ft of modules from show to show. I'm adding more, and should be at 36 ft by the June show. It's a lot of work:eek:, especially when you are an "impatient knucklehead" (her words) who can't wait for the wife to get home from work to help you carry modules up the steps. I thought she would be impressed that I did it myself!

I'm just wondering, am I crazy??

On the bright side, the Mrs. is gonna be there all weekend,:) and will be piloting a lot of my trains while I shoot lots of pictures.:D They may not make WPF this week, but will soon, Or they may show up on the FCSME webpage or even my own.

Well I'm bushed! I'll see you guys for coffee tomorrow morning. :)

BTW, Bill Tidler?? Where?? I miss the waitresses!:D

Have fun with the show Karl!

Well I did spin a bearing in the engine. Buying another car tomorrow for 450. Debating if I should just swap the engine or just keep 2 cars. I need a new bottom end for the one, but that isn't too hard to find around here.

Evening all, busy weekend ahead for me.

Tomorrow got to buy some clothes, as i'm going to a friends wedding at 3pm. I'm tossing up whether to take my DSLR or not... I don't want to tread on the pro's toes. :o. Then in the evening I'm heading into to town with a friend for a few drinks, I haven't seen her for a while so that should be good. :)

On sunday, depending on how I feel, I will head down to the hardware and pick up some Ply for the benchwork. I have got a quote from a dealer in Brisbane that does extruded foam, it's around $50 for a 8x4 x 1" sheet.

well thats about it. later all.

I can't imagine packing it all up and taking your trains on the road. (I do enough planning just getting one horse to a show and that's not NEARLY as complicated!!)

but it sure sounds wonderful.

now that the snow is gone, and the horses are out more, and there is less (hahahaasnorksnork) barn work to be done, I want to find some model train displays and shows to go and see.

must do some research. its raining today, so not a bad day to sit here and do it. :)

I also want to take a drive (but on a nice day) with the camera and shoot old buildings. mostly industrial, but old houses, schools, churches..

this little town is full of them. :)

oh, and just as an aside. I toured a HUGE dairy operation yesterday, everything automated, computerized..

they have this VERY cool "turntable" for the milking parlour. it reminded me of a roundhouse.

cow steps onto the platform, gets hooked up to the milker, the table rotates, the next cow steps on, table rotates, in the meantime the first cow is already being milked. by the time the table has gone completely around, the first cow is done, removed and replaced by another cow...

and so on and so forth. AMAZING piece of equipment. I want to get photos of it in operation. They have 300 milk cows. I have no idea how long milking takes every day.
