Good evening folks.

Construction continues on the bridges for my layout. I've decided to build the highway bridge that ran parallel to the trestle I'm building. The bridge has since been removed and a new one built in it's place. I almost forgot about the old bridge until I consulted pictures for the trestle project.

I spent most of my day extracting water in the basement of our store. The water is draining from the roof into the ally, then in to our basement! I'm wearing my grubbys to work with a suit in reserve. I have a feeling I'll be spending the majority of the day in the basement tomorrow.

Oh, and I'll have the prime rib, medium rare, with fresh horseradish, garlic mashed potatoes, and a salad. Better yet, skip the salad!

I hope you all have a good day tomorrow.

With any more help from the government, we'll all soon be broke. :(

I don't know what Rex did but, since he apparently left a pile of money for Chris to spend, I think I'll have one of the nice New York strip steaks I see over there, medium rare, please. :)

ALL but Rex, the man is made of money:D;)! If the economy tanks, my family and I will be living under his layout...............;) Make sure you order the $100 a pound kind!;) Remember Jim, Keep Hoping for Change and Changing for Hope...That will fix it, and keep your earnings under $250K!;)

Good Morning --we're getting about 12C this AM and we's be goin' to 17C today!!:D:D:D:p

I'm taking the bike out for a ride through Springbank Park this morn for sure:p:D

Chris If REX has all that money I'm sure he will be able to subsidize everyone's income!!:p:D:D:D

PC Tsk--tsk--tsk; The poor chimp must be having a heck of a time with this lot----;)

Well, I'm going to figure on rebuilding part of my atrium as there was not enough reinforcements to prevent structural SAG:confused::mad: Ergo---more fiddling with the columns and trusses---darn thing will be looking more like a dang birdcage if this keeps up:eek::confused::cool:

Morning Gang!
Just a little coffee and 1, yes I said 1, donut this morning Flo. Movin fast, travelin light!:D
A little overcast here, but temps are going to the 50s today!! Woohoo, the last of the snow should be gone by tonight!!!!:D The birds are starting to return , so I better drop some grass seed today so it can start before the Starlings return. (The feeders are already filled) They'll eat anything thats not already growing! Of course we've now got 1 set of Bluejays nesting in a pine, a pair of Cardinals in the holly, and a pair of Mockingbirds in a Magnolia. Should make for some interesting air combat about the time the chicks are born. Interlopers beware!
Warm temps also get me back in the garage. I should get the woodworking done on the module frames today. Maybe I can get Jr. to sand and paint them tomorrow. Weather promises warmth tomorrow to, so no TV/computer/Xbox time for a certain 13 year old. Kids need to be outside as much as possible! If not for any other reason other than to get the funk blown off of them!:D Ditto for his older brother. He gets to clean that disgusting gray dinge off his car. He hasn't washed it since I gave it to him 3 months ago! It was white at one time!
Sundays temp forcast looks good for airbrushing outside! I Love It! Gotta run, Flo, put the donut & coffee on Rex's tab. Thats what Chris told me!

Good morning folks

Another crazy day at the madhouse I call work. From the moment I walked in I have been putting out fires and soothing egos. Trying to get projects out, as part of the economic stimulus package has become an exercise in insanity. I will most like have to come in tomorrow to catch up on the things I was supposed to get done today that won’t be done because of the recent round of crises. Right now I am looking over the forums in an effort to preserve some of my sanity.

Last was another night of little household projects that kept me from modeling.

This weekend will be insane. We have the grocery shopping to do. My wife will be working all day Saturday. She is proctoring the Delaware State Science Olympiad at Delaware State University in Dover. Tonight my son has guitar lesson, and a basketball game. Tomorrow my daughter has a basketball game. If the weather guessers are right about Sunday we will be spending some time outside cleaning up the yard. It does not look like any trains or modeling will happen this weekend.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning.

It's 61° and partly cloudy (broke the clear streak). The high will be around 80 and it will be partly cloudy.

Yesterday my soldering gun bit the dust. I had been noticing it was taking longer and longer to heat up no matter how often the tip was cleaned. I was in the middle of installing a decoder when the coils in it popped. To say that it was a bright flash is an understatement as I nearly had a fireball on my hands. I quickly pulled the plug and tossed it in the sink. A quick application of running water took care of the fire. A trip to Lowe's was in order. I picked up a new soldering gun, a power saw attachment for my Dremel and a new tip cleaner. Had a fire dept meeting to attend last night. I wish there was a way I could reclaim two hours of my life. Maybe today I'll have time to cut the openings for the sliding doors on the observation car, IF nothing comes up. Knowing my father he'll probably come up with something. I still have to make the pieces for the foundation surround for the north engine house. The problem with that is that the work has to be done in the middle of the layout so I can only do it when I know I won't be interrupted.

Good morning shop dwellers!

How does that old saying go about 'when the cats away...' - Flo, I'd like a supersized veggie omellet, hashbrowns, a few pineapple slices and a large glass of O.J., compliments of Rex naturally!

Jim - glad you finally checked in, I was starting to get concerned...

Karl - there's been some pretty interesting bird combat around our front yard feeders too, like the time a hawk swooped down and snatched up a Junco who was feeding off the ground. (Wish he'd gotten a starling instead, or better yet, a squirrel - those fluffy-tailed rats are always devouring the birdseed my daughters put out!)

Corey - Maybe you can get federal funding for your bridge project under the Infrastructure Stimulus, just don't explicitly state the actual scale.

Tom, I hope the pace slows to a manageable level in your department pretty soon. Too bad you can't get a doctor's slip prescribing a mandatory 30 minutes of train time each day to rejuvenate the mind and improve job performance...;)

Phillip, I guess you guys in Hoosierland were about due for some decent weather after all the crap that has come thru there in recent weeks...enjoy!

Jeff that's scary about the soldering gun blowing up! I've never really liked using those things myself, that just gives me one more reason to avoid 'em.

I better get back to work here soon, still doing that code editing that puts me to sleep. Made a little more progress on the MR-I last night.

The soldering gun self destructing was a rare event for this particular brand, otherwise I wouldn't have bought a new one of the same brand. I had known for some time that something was wrong with it. It's no different from anything else. A defective unit is bound to get out onto the market once in a while. It's no different than having an Atlas loco turn up defective, which doesn't happen often.

"Flo, I'll have the same as yesterday and yes....Put it on Rex's tab:D!"

Got some pic's of the new Tankmate:)! (The first three)He is a little camera shy:o He's a Dwarf Flame Angel Fish......The last Pic is ryans new tankmate, he's a Falco Hawkfish.

Good Evnin' pipples.

I got a nice long walk with camera today:D---now to have fun seeing what stuff I'll save and upload to my PB account. I also discovered that I needed to add at least two more bents so that the silly atrium doesn't sag. OOPS:eek::p

Chris And they're settling in nicely I presume!:D:D

Jeff Don't you just love things that go PPFFFOOOOFF!!!:eek:

Karl: We had a Bald Headed Eagle land on our house--talk about things going rel quiet in a hurry---

140 miles.........

140 miles, thats how far I rode my motorcycle before that nasty old office was out of my head! What a week!

Rode up and down the CSX main for nearly 50 miles, cruised some back roads, and a few small towns. BTW, my new headlight mod lights up the night like there's no tomorrow!

Speaking of tomorrow, think I might get up early, grab my camera, and go shoot some trains! That way that nasty old office will be nothing but a distant memory!

Evening, everyone.

Karl, I'd never claim enough knowledge to be anyone's broker but the pros seem to be doing a better job of losing money than I have so far. If you have the stomach for risk, check out RFN and RFW. Just bought RFW today, which double shorts the entire S&P 500. I've owned RFN, which double shorts the S&P financials, for a week and I'm up just a little under 30% in a week. Just make sure you have sell and stop loss orders in place if you're going to start messing around with short selling.

Good idea to get the kids out of the house and working. We all spend way too much inside lately. We've had some beautiful cardinals down here this winter but I think they are stating to head north again. I had duck sitting in my oak tree last week, quaking away at me. First time I've seen a duck in a tree. I think he was possessed or something. :)

Chris, we indeed have change, like an 8.1% unemployment rate and GM closing at its lowest price since April 4, 1933. Just wasn't the kind of change I was hoping for. :( If things get bad enough, we can all go live under Rex's layout. He has plenty of room for a big crowd. Our wives might not like it but just think of all the fun we could have playing with our trains. :)

Corey, I hate cleaning our flooded basements. Ours used to flood all the time when I was a kid in Ohio and I had to go muck it out. I'm glad mine has remained dry so far. Sounds like the highway bridge next to the trestle will be a nice touch.

BOC, atriums are tricky to engineer in real life so I can imagine it's even worse with a model. You have to post some pictures soon so we can see what you're doing.

Tom, the upside is that most other engineering and construction firms are going under. The downside is that everything will have to be done yesterday to meet the stimulus goals. I don't envy your position. If I was you, I'd at least work an hour's nap in sometime this weekend.

Jeffrey, I never did have a soldering iron turn into a torch on me but I had a propane torch turn into a flame thrower. I don't know what happened but some part broke inside the knob thing and that baby was shooting out 5 foot flames. I managed pitch it out into the driveway and let it burn itself out with out any serious damage except to my nerves. Last time I use of those things.

Ken, sometimes it's business over pleasure. You look at money a whole different way when you realize it's the only money you'll have to live on for the rest of your life. I told my kids that my goal was to die with one dollar in my estate so they wouldn't be spoiled and it looks like I may reach that goal. Thanks for thinking of me though.

Phillip, it must be much easier to banish that office riding the bike and chasing trains. Sounds like a great stress reducer. Must also be when God seems a little closer too. :D

My motorhome developed a leak right at the front in one of the cabinets during the heavy rain we had last week. It was finally warm enough to get up there and see what was happening. Good grief! I'm amazed I didn't have a leak earlier. There are seams at the front and the back that join the fiberglass end caps to the aluminum frame. I had them all resealed before I left California in 2005. A couple of summers in Alabama more or less destroyed them. I scrapped all the loose stuff off I could and used a waterproof tape to cover the seams so the water will stay out for the time being. The sealing around all the roof intrusions was shot too so I had to seal all of them. The roof surface itself is in surprisingly good condition, thank goodness, but the end caps need to be professionally redone. Since that's about a $2,000 job, I'll need to wait for my stimulus check to get that done...Oh, wait, I'm not getting a stimulus check. :) Well. I guess I can hope the tape holds for a while. After three hours crawling around the roof of the RV, just about every muscle I have is in pain so I think I'll just sit and rest for a while now.

Exactly the reason I don't use those little butane soldering irons. One of my cousins had one blow up on her.

Good morning.

It's 63 and mostly cloudy. The high should be around 80 and it will be partly cloudy.

I received some items in the mail yesterday to use for whatever parts I can get from them. These are an early 60's example of an Athearn GP30, an early model Athearn F dummy B unit and several Athearn freight cars, all of which have varying degrees of damage. A couple of the cars can be fixed rather easy. The other two are basket cases which will be stripped of any usable parts. One, a three dome tank car, will eventually kitbashed into an on site oil storage tank. The dummy F booster unit has already been weighted and fitted with metal wheels (from the GP30). The GP30 chassis has been completely stripped. The motor is a hopeless cause. My test meter gets a direct short across the poles. The metal truck side frames will look good in a junk scene and I'm sure I have a GP35 chassis around here somewhere that I can fit the body shell to. One of the better cars is a PFE express reefer which needs some minor repair. A couple of hatch covers and a Kadee coupler box and it will be back in service. The other car is a SF 40' boxcar that requires only a door and Kadee couplers. All the cars have sprung trucks. Last but not least is an AT&SF light up caboose. It's missing a critical part and shorts out. It too has sprung trucks. All units have body mounted coupler boxes.

Good Morning. We're currently at 0C with the high going to 9C today with showers later this afternoon. We're going to a low tonight of -3C then back up to 7C in the rain. So it is going to be a + and - week for us. Definite pothole making time

As well as sugaring time up here---some friends popped over with a gallon jug of Maple Syrup for the pancakes I make up at this time of year. Shaping up to be a good one---

Jim I'm being a little more patient with this one--I've got two bents to make and then I'll be watching to see whether the thing will not sag. I'm taking pix as I go so when I post I'll have a thread that will show the thing---warts and all---:):eek:

Jeff I used a butane torch on many an occasion -- but I'm always watching the dang thing---

Jim:Karl I'll be careful with any investing in shorts myself--so far I've been lucky---20% over the past 2 weeks but----:eek:

Well, I've got some walking in and took a bunch of pix of a building complex that had an atrium on it and that was when I realized I didn't have enough support for the poor thing--now I'll be getting a little more picky about how I build this thing up. Yesterday was also go clean up backyard day. Next major backyard job will be to take treestump out'n by the roots--have friend with huge 4X4 with a 10T winch on it . He figures that it'll take the stump out--we'll see. Roots on a Maple can go pretty far...:confused:

Forgot to put this piece of news in---we seem to have a nesting pair of Bald Eagles in our area. My wife and I saw one this morning and a neighbour said there were a pair earlier. If so we now have 3 nesting pairs up this way--

Jim, only thing I can say is hold on! I grew up listing to my father telling me and showing me how families survived during the Depression. I'm sure we have some here my late fathers age that know first hand. I'm not as worried for me as I'am for people who were never tought how to survive in real rough times. I get people every day calling me if I'm hiring (lawn service) and people at my park asking if we're hiring:eek: all I can tell them is the county is doing just the reverse!:eek: Well, while Rex is out camping we can move in!:D The look on his face when he see's several familys living under his layout:eek::) Priceless:D

"Flo, just a cup of coffee on rex's tab:D my Family and I are off to the strawberry festival today!"

I'll post pic's guys!:)
