Good morning. Slightly on the chilly side here. It's 38° with 100% humidity. It'll be mostly sunny with a high of 62°.

The plan today is to clean up the layout. Now whether I actually get a chance to do it remains to be seen. Part of it is some freight cars I had out to describe to an interested party. I think they're not his cup of tea so they'll be rewrapped and put back in storage. I also have a couple of locos that are in pieces. I need to get them back together and in the display rack. One is a Mantua SP F7 shell I transplanted to an Athearn blue box drive. The shell is OK but the drive needs some minor work. The other is a Stewart AS16 that needed a new motor. While replacing it I discovered it had a cracked truck. I had a truck that would fit it but it didn't match the other one. So I changed them both out. So now I have an AS16 with FA1 trucks. I need to get that one back together too.

This just in:

Interstate Brands has announced today they are following the Rock Island railroad into bankruptcy liquidation, apparently for the same reasons. unions refused pay cuts to keep the company afloat, and instead went on strike.
IBC has announced they are officially out of business, with liquidation to the highest bidders to start ASAP.
So, no more Wonder Bread, and no more Twinkies.:(

My day is pretty lousy. Got word that my mother slipped into a coma last night. She went to sleep and didn't wake up. She was transported to the ER this morning. So I'm not in a real good mood right now.

On the layout front, I got the loose freight cars put away. I have the SP F7 ready to go back together as soon as I install an LED in it. The AS16 is ready ti go on the shelf.

Looks like it's going to be in the mid 30's tonight. I've set the heater on low. It's been a long day for me. I've had a lot on my mind, not all of it good. My mother has been transferred to St Francis Cabrini hospital in hospital. Last I heard she was still comatose.

I got the AS16 and the F7 put back together. I also got part of the layout cleaned up a bit. There's still a lot more to be done before I can run a train on it but I can see the track. Part of the work on the F7 was to install a LED headlight. It was recessed quite a bit so I glued a short length of acrylic rod into the headlight socket then filed it down until it was almost flush. The LED is a bright one and is a bit whiter than what I wanted but when you have as little as I do you have to make do with what you've got. At least it's not blue-white.

Time for me to call it a night, but not a good night. See y'all tomorrow.

No news on my mothers condition.

Plans for today is to clean up more of the layout. There are still some places I can't see the track.

I need to start getting my Christmas tree ready. I have one that should work quite nicely. It's a whopping six and a half inches tall. Well that is about forty-nine scale feet. I'd have a heck of a time trying to get something that big in the door!

Seems like I was here just twelve hours ago.

Time for me to call it a night.

No news about my mother in the last twelve hours. In this case I guess no news is good news. Just not knowing makes it difficult.

See y'all tomorrow.

Say Jeffrey,
Apologies for being so late to see your post, I'm sorry to hear about your Mom,
often she may still be able to hear you if you visit her so don't be afraid to talk to her. I hope she pulls through.

Sorry to hear your docksider got an attitude on ya!;) Mine is a horse of a different color though. Its a Sakura, cast metal boiler and frame, with a Machima can motor inside.
Closest thing I have to that is a Rivirossi 0-6-0 that I added a lead and trailing truck to, then turned down the wheels by holding the chassis against some metal files. The motor was directly jumpered to a 12 volt power pack to turn the wheels against the file. I'd be careful with a Dremel, they do make a lot of heat, and the wheel centers are plastic! It too though, has a can motor.. Ive never had much luck with Rivi motors;) Here's the little 2-6-2 herself, no more pizza cutters here!! :D

Hi Karl,
Thanks for the info, i did get my Rivirossi to run a bit better but it still seems as though it's too hard to get going when brought to a stop so maybe the motor is sitting a bit too low and bottoming out on the drive gear?

Some great pics and videos of the lightning, rain, wind and wierd and wonderful cloud formations that have been giving Brisbane and it's suburbs a going over the last 2 days. I was down at the club yesterday, early, when the one shown came through just before 11:00AM.

Had some real rifle shot "crackers" directly overhead but the lights only dimmed for a second once. Heavy rain soon had the outdoor layout guys running inside for about 1/2 an hour or so.

I had the layout all to myself for about 2 hrs, so was able to run a long train with walkaround radio control (DC not DCC, but only 1 train can be on the whole layout). When there's more members it's plug in cab control with blocks or local yard track control. The outdoor guys get there about 9:30AM once or twice a month and it used to be common place to open the clubhouse as well (otherwise midday), but the practice had fallen into dissuse (different commitee) but the new one seems to have relented. Was fun to have the opportunity to give some new locos a workout, the rolling stock isn't exactly era correct, but who was going to complain.

WELL!!!!! I WAS going to post some pics but it seems "Photobucket" has decided in their great wisdom to completely rehash (read stuff-up) their website and nothing works (including the link that says "return to previous photobucket) Why do these website people always have to mess around with what we're used to, if it ain't broke don't "fix"it !!

Without the improvements, they wouldn't need the tech support guys to fix it. They're just doing their part to stimulate the global economy.

Good Morning

We are seeing some cloud, some sun and 55F for a high today...right now we are sitting at 33F....and as per usual....I'm typing with the loving Spring purring away between my arms...

Today is Audrey's birthday so she got breakfast in bed...think we'll go out later on....

Have a great day!!!

Part of the problem could be your browser too. I use Firefox and have no problem with either version of Photobucket other than an dislike for the new Beta version. I've read elsewhere of users who switched to Firefox and were able to switch back to the original Photobucket.

My plan for today is to clean up the layout. I'd like to clean it all up but I'll be happy if I get just part of it cleared. The hardest part is deciding what to keep and what to toss. So many things can be useful in future projects. Even a broken truck sideframe. That could someday be used outside an engine house.
