About the 300 more views. I will be out of town this coming weekend so maybe we should begin the contest on Monday, February 29 at 1200 PST. I don't want to squeeze it in this week in case we don't have a winner by Friday. Jim
Well. Congratulations to all of us. The PCM&T Co. and I thank you all for your continued interest in this thread. I don't know who did the 500,000th view, but I got a photo of 500,001. All this accomplished in just under 51 months. Hard to believe.
Naturally to celebrate we will have our traditional photo comparison Contest on Monday, February 29, at 1200 PST. Below is a photo of potential prizes the winner may choose from.
At the top you see my tradition HO or O scale trees. In the middle you see two types of N scale trees. The left middle trees are suitable for Z scale as well. At the bottom you see a Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 Consolidation featuring DCC and Sound.
So, 4 different prizes to choose from. Best of luck on Monday. Thanks again, Jim
We've had number of these Contests now and it never surprises me that those who want to win the most NEVER win. When I post the Rules tomorrow, whether by human nature, or by stupidity, few will read the Hints or How to Lose the Contest Part. They will blithely find the differences between the two photos and post their guesses. WRONG! What they will have forgotten is double and triple checking their guesses and then posting. It is simple, folks in the hurry to claim the prize post an answer and there is always a five or six correct answers that really need to be eight or nine or whatever. All you did in the time it takes me to check in is GIVE AWAY CORRECT ANSWERS TO YOUR COMPETITION! So way wrong as to be comic. Unfortunately there is a fine line between Comedy and Tragedy. What has happened in every Contest here is that this scenario is followed time after time. Basically unless you have studied the photo enough for a bit of time and checked once you will most probably lose. If you have checked 10 times with a 5 minute break in between you 'may' have a good chance. Otherwise history says you won't. To make the Contest more challenging, of course, I DO NOT tell you how many correct answers to find. This trips up all but the late guesser that has all the answers written down and maybe needs only one correct answer to find because you gave the rest to him. Of course, being an ex-teacher I have little sympathy for those who can't seem to figure this out, but I never give up hope for you. Jim
HI Jim, I have been following your progress since the beginning and been just lurking in the shadows, but i have to say I love your work and your layouts are just inspirational, if i had the ability to build a layout it would be inspired by your work.. But i wanted to comment on the contest, as a suggestion, because people don't seem to follow the rules in a since and give answers out why not have 4 pics each diff and make it more puzzling it would take a little longer for everyone to figure out and might even things out a bit in the contest. though i am not good at such contest I do enjoy watching it go on. considering this is a mile stone contest make it harder than the others but again i don't want people mad at me for suggesting such things lol.
Josh, Welcome. For sure ask any questions you may need answered. That is what this site is all about.
As for the Contest you bring up some good points. One problem with multiple photos is that they may not all fit on the same page. Going back and forth is a bit much to ask. I've given that some thought in the past and one thing I like about the Contest is that it has to be done quickly and accurately. I hate to see someone give almost all the answers away, but such is life. Our last winner did it my suggested way. For those who need any of the trees or the loco, I feel two photos and 20 minutes of their time is mot too much to ask. The Contest starts Monday at 1200 and ends usually with a winner within the hour. Also, I think this contest may be tougher than the rest, but not intentionally. Thanks again for your thoughts and no one here will get mad at you. Jim
Well what if another suggestion is if they PM the answer's to you instead of replying on the thread itself, and once you have a winner post the answer, for all to see, and anyone who post the answers on the thread would be Disqualified. anyway i know all the problems that could cause, but it be funny to watch. but i have to say you make this thread fun for everyone and it is nice to have such a good forum to learn and follow.
Josh, That idea was brought up before. Having the answers in the thread and each answer having a time stamp simply takes away any possible hanky panky. Jim
Everybody. Take note of how the wood on the tender is stacked, also the position of the cab's roof vent, and whether the box the guy in the grey coveralls has his foot on becomes a tree stump, or the red flowering plant moves and....and...........and.......................
