beiland, Good point, but that sign just came from the sign store last week! Actually, I was going to weather it some. Thanks for reminding me. Jim :)

Thanks fellows and all the rest of you.

The layout is finished! I'm building a shelf to put a DC power pack and my DCC plug in module on.

Next up is the 500000 views Contest. We are almost there. Maybe two weeks away. I'm putting up more than $500 worth of conifer trees perfect for HO or O scale. I'm happy I finished this layout before then so I will have some pictures for you to compare. Tell your friends, or, maybe not. Contest will be hard but winnable. Jim;)

Stucco Patch rocks and netting

Jim, Seems like the cost is slightly in favor of Stucco Patch rocks and netting. The real savings is in time and effort. For all the rocks I'm using on the PCM&T line it would take 10x as long using hydrocol castings. Glue is cheap and glue guns are $12. The time it takes stapling or gluing carboard webbing is about 6/7 times as long as just netting and gluing. Folded wads of paper Woodland Scenics style is okay and cheapest for smaller layouts. This one would take a months worth of papers. When it all comes out in the wash, remember I've done five roomsized layouts, I would give the nod to stucco and netting if you like this rock 'look.' Thanks, Jim:)
I'm going back thru your subject thread for ideas, and this rock/scenery, method/choice, of materials looks very interesting. I wanted to make this posting so I would remember it.

Brian, The amount of rock walls in the first PCM&T Co. layout was really large. I'm always looking for alternatives to methods that have been around for 100 years. Stucco Patch is perfect for all these 'rocks' if money is an object. Sculptamold accomplishes the same effect if money is NO object. Also, Sculptamold is a lighter material when dried. Jim :)

It also looks to be a cleaner product/method to work with, which appealed to me.

And it would preclude buying a lot of 'rock molds'.

A little bit more weight doesn't bother me.
Brian

One thing I've found is that in a small layout you can get a lot of stuff in it. Here's a photo of the finished product. 4'x6'. Jim:)

Merci!

Down to less than 12000 views to go now. I forgot the prize nobody won for the last contest. HO 2-8-0 Consolidation with DCC and Sound. Winner will have a choice between trees or loco. Jim :)

Wow... that would be such a hard choice for me... I NEED trees, but I really like the sound of a steamer.

11,999 to go... ;)
