Thanks Lynn.

Continuing on with the right side redo I decided that there was no way to double the size of the road tunnel so I'm eliminating the road and tunnel all together.

Plaster cloth is the first step and I will cover this with Sculptamold 'rocks.'

Here I'm covering the road with plaster as well. When finished hopefully it will look like the road never exsited.

Jim:)

Jim this goes back to a conversation I had with maybe you maybe someone else about once the mainline is in do you go ahead and add scenery whether its definate or a kind of filler until better ideas come in and then make changes after as the ideas pop up ( think it was you ). Nice recovery Jim.

Thanks Tony.

Lynn, Actually, if it was more than two years ago I'm not sure it was me you talked to. My previous layouts, (6 or 7 of them), were pretty much set in 'stone.' I built them the way I envisioned each of them and seldom changed a thing until I began this thread. I don't think you were here, nearly 3 years ago now, but somewhere during the first year I did make a change, a big one, on the PCM&T Alaska layout. Then this Southern Division layout and I'm in full change mode again. Even at 70, I can agree that change is good. Jim:eek:

Yep post 2629.:)

Lynn, You are correct.

Here's a photo of the new tunnel cut. I had an old piece of balsa laying around and it will end up as a tunnel facing. Tunnels in O are big! I originally thought the tunnel would have to go here, but I did my due diligence and thought about other places and even a winding road coming down the hill where this tunnel is. Too steep. Progress seems slower these day??? Jim:confused:

I can see how the O scale additions can slow you down Jim, going to take a bit more planning to make the scenes flow.

Twist, Welcome. Toot, spot on as usual. Lynn, I will make it work.

Here is a photo showing how simple it is to make a concrete tunnel portal. Weathering to come and a bit more paint. Jim:)

I'm still working on the tunnel and the new road. Pics this week. In the meantime here is a Thanksgiving photo for you. Hope your holiday was full of wonderful things. Jim:D

Thanks Lynn, I bought these trees at the LHS a couple of days ago. I've 'greened' a few of them to get different coloring, but most you see in this photo don't show any additional work. These are $3.50 a tree and seem quite expensive. They are made in Tijuana, MX just 30 miles away. I would do them myself but I can't find the little stems at the top. Anyway, the layout needed a bit of color this time around as it does portray Southern Colorado and October. Jim:)

Lynn, San Diego County has long been recognized as North America's best climate. It has been in the mid-80s here for this week. I had a girl friend from Quebec once, and I know all about winter because of it. No thanks. I will continue to live in a relative paradise. Jim :o

Here is a better photo showing the new tunnel location. I will do something with the rocks on either side of the opening. No where else to put it. sigh. Jim :)

Poured the concrete road a few minutes ago. The photo shows the products. I added some gray acrylic to the roadway plaster for some coloring. Tomorrow a light sanding and a white stripe. Since this is a state road I thought I would leave the rail yard and small village a dirt road. Any thoughts on this. You also see the completed portal. Jim:)

This looks good so far, I'm not much for paved roads but I am looking forward to how this turns out. I think the dirt road would be a good idea but then again I like dirt:cool:

Very nice job Explorer. Roads are the pain in the neck of my life as well, so I am looking forward to see how you finish yours.
