Very nice Jim, makes all the difference in the world!
Didn't know about the bolt heads, have to remember that when the time comes.

Here's a photo I took a few minutes ago. I call it 'Clean Up in Aisle 3.' Sometimes folks get into a rut and think everything must be perfect on our layouts. How many rock slides messing with the hidden mine production have you seen? Jim :o

Thanks to photobucket no photo.

That's actually pretty bad ass! Looks like the track inspector will be out soon making sure the tracks aren't damaged!

Thanks fellows. I'd never seen this done so I thought I would give it a try. I will have to get a mirror as there is a fully modeled mine entrance and junk laying about that no one can see on this side of the rubble. I always like to add a touch or two to my layouts that are special and only the most bold and curious may find. Jim:)

Jim,
I´ve finished reading your thread from the beginning from the first steps of your old fantastic layout to the end of building your current awesome one. It´s always a big fun to read your posts, study your pictures and read about your skills on doing those fantastic looking scenes without having a pool full of money or contracts with all those mrrcompanys....I couldn´t find the words to explain what I wan´t to say....Your work is a great inspiration for me.I´ll try some of your tips on my own build when I´ll start scenery....Thank you for sharing your work.
Chris

Chris, I award you top marks for making it through 244 pages. Well done. Always glad to help any way I can. Thanks, Jim:o

Way back in my modeling days around 9 years ago I took a photo that was backlit. I can't find it anymore. It was digital, but 3 computers later it seems to have been lost with some others I vaguely remember.

As this thread has much to do with 'photography' as anything else I thought I would go back taking some backlit photos to show you that there is more than one way to 'show off' your layout. I will post a new photo every few days for awhile. Hope you like them. Jim :)

Jim, I know your RR is cheap, but you need a plank along each side of the ties on the trestle to hold the ties in place!
At least one guard rail on the inside rail wouldn't hurt either.

Sherrel, Cheap it is. There will be an inside plank. I just haven't cut it yet. It is all weathered and everything. I'm actually just taking a break from this trestle as I have been inserting bolts in for the last half hour. Also, I'm beginning at least one platform for the bridge. I haven't been to the LHS in awhile. Do you think Code 70 would work as guard rails? Jim:)

If you've already done a tutorial on that back-lit effect, please post a link! and if not, could you consider a brief one? Your work continues to inspire, Jim...

Jim,

Can I assume that you are using an F Stop of 22 (or there abouts) for your photo's? Also, what type of lighting system do you use for your photo's?

Lastly, but anything but leastly, like DSD has said, your work continues to inspire me as well. As for your layout being done on the cheap - you couldn't tell as it looks, and has the feel, of a very professional job.
