Josh, that is really cool. Modeling a bridge under-construction scene, whowouldathunkit, very innovative!

Thumbs up.

Cool scene josh, I like it!
I just picked up an HO air compressor/trailer, it's just what you need for that jack hammer.

Got a little more work done on the new forms for the new abutments.

I was looking at some pictures of some bridges that are being expanded in real life and was noticing some of the details. One thing I noticed was the very large steel beams that were placed vertically in the ground with the steel plates behind them as in these 2 pictures:

I made my version using Evergreen beams and some cut up steel plates that I usually use for the steel plates to cover wholes on the streets. The other wood form that has been set infront of the steel beams and plates is the form that will make the front of the abutment. I still need to make another form that buts up against the vertical steel beams to make the back of the front wall for the abutment. Once I do that Ill stick a bunch of re-bar sticking up vertically coming out the top.

Ive also laid some more Plaster down to carve the access ramps to get down to the work area on both sides of the bridge. I havnt started the other abutment on the other side of the bridge, but this one will be further along then the one that is pictured below and the form for the front wall of the abutment will have already been removed and the wall will have been poured and the next phase will be in progress.

Here are some more pictures

Custom finishings... that's the other. I made an air hose from thin wire coiled up, looks not bad.
(nice job on the retaining walls by the way!)

Thanks Rico!!

I added some more detail to the form. I made the rear form wall that will form the rear wall of the front wall for the abutment. I also cut some re-bar and planted them in stick vertically up inside the form. I think its coming out pretty neat, what do you think?

Josh,

What kits did you use for your highway overpasses?

I bought 2 of the Modern Overpass 50' Bridges and 1 of the Wrought Iron 50' Bridges and combined bits from all 3 to make this one :D

I was thinking i needed some more 6x6's for the front of the wood form as it looked a little bare and they were spaced pretty far from each other (you really notice it in the last 2 pictures I posted), so I just added some more in there, will show them next time i take some pictures which im sure will be in an hour or so LOL

The Rix kits right? These here: http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/628-113

By looking at your thread again, you gave me some ideas for a highway overpass scene. (see my thread I just posted)

Some more updates

I added some more 6x6 posts to the right side abutment form. It looked like there wasnt enough of them and looked kinda bare, so i added some more

I also made the left abutments front wall. This side I wanted to show as if the construction crew was farther along on this side then the right side. The left side has the abutments front wall poured, with re-bar sticking out the top. I also planted the large vertical beams and the steel plates behind the beam, and then backfilled them in

Dirt was added to both access ramps and glued in place. The left ramp is still wet (was just glued down about 20 mins ago) so that is why it may look darker.

Here's some pics

I made the safety railing that runs along the bridge side that is being expanded. This temporary railing was put in place for workers working on the bridge so they dont fall off the side of the bridge and injure themselves. Its made from scale 4x4's and 2x4's. I also added some K-Rails and cones to direct the traffic on either side of the bridge.

Man that's lookin sweet. Now we don't want the workers injuring themselves or you'll have to pay workmans comp...hahaha :)

Got the temporary walkway up for the right side of the bridge. Ive only done the walkway for the section of railing that has already been poured. I mounted some 4x4 posts extended out from under the bridge, and then glued 2 2x10's atop them. I havnt made the railing for this walkway yet, that will be the next thing I do. The tricky part is going to be extending the walkway, and making the form for the new section of concrete railing for the bridge....

Michael, the grass is Woodland Scenics Field Grass.

Its been a very long while since ive been able to do any modeling at all. But with things slowing down a bit at the new job, im managing to get off somewhat at a decent time in the day to get home and have a little more time do more then come home and pass out lol

I was looking at this module the other night, and well I decided to completely rip it apart and start over on it. Random i know, but I havnt been happy with this module for a while now, and figured i'd start something new keeping with the theme of the CAT Rental Building and the bridge construction site.

This time however, things will be a little bit different, and I plan to have a scrap yard of some sort on the far right end of the module using the new Walthers kits. The middle will house the CAT building/equipment yard, and the far left will be home to the bridge construction site crossing the winding creek. Behind the bridge/creek overpass and to the left of the CAT Building will be a small pink house with a small pink garage and a few trees. This is the structure that was formerly on my ex-girlfriends diorama I made her a while back. I figured I could use it on here and it would bring some life back into some memories, plus it is a nice little structure to fill an odd shaped piece of land. Across the length of the front of the module will be a road that curves off the module on the right end where the Scrap Yard will be built. This should allow for some nice real-estate for the Scrap Yard. I may also install a small siding for a couple 65' scrap gons. Would be neat to have them being loaded i think.

I'll try and get some pictures up in the next couple days (either tomorrow or thursday) to show you guys the basic layout of the 2' x 6' module.

Glad to hear you are getting the modeling bug back Josh. Any chance on seeing some progress on the La Mirada, CA Industrial Switching Layout module:D
