A new beginning inspired from my old Central Midland Layout

62 windows and 4 doors last night. I decided to use clear styrene so that I could give some of them a weathered look. I am working on the front entrances and doors this weekend. I also started painting the roof panels and weathering.

Wow, this has been a project. I wired 12 lights inside and then 7 dual colors ( Red/green) above each door. The idea is that if the stall is empty it gets a green light, if it is occupied it gets a Red light. I don't know if this is prototypical, but in my world it is cool. I did a control panel in my 3d printer and then hand-painted the letters and numbers.
Now I am working on all the scenery around it and inside details.

Productive winter getting projects done, and Boom, stuff happens. At a standstill right now, summer is here, and there are plenty of things to do outside. My wife was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in February, so the trains have to wait. She is doing fine, and the outlook is very good. Just going to be a busy year. I have some new engines and cars that have arrived from Broadway LTD. I will take some pictures when I can.

Good news from all of this? I am retiring (again) on February 1st, 2026. After all that has gone on this year, I realized there is more to life than just working all the time. Now I will have more time for family, trains, and woodworking. :)

So this is why I do it. Before I posted my Twin Granddaughters watching the trains. This is my grandson who will be 2 years old in March. He is hooked. Every day he comes here the first thing he says is " Papa, downstairs trains". Notice how he keeps his hands on the front panel. They have been taught not to grab any trains or mess with the scenery. Maybe someday this will be his. 💕

That's awesome. He will remember these days vividly for the rest of his life. Based on my experience it will greatly enhance his development too. There are no downsides to a little fellow running trains with his grandpa. Its all good!

Glad to hear her outlook is good and trust she'll fully recover. Good on ya regarding the 2nd retirement. Agreed, there are way more important things than working all the time.
 
10 years doing this post! Wow time has gone by fast. I have been pretty lax on updating this thread. I plan on a busy winter updating. My wife is recovering from her breast cancer and I have retired a second time, earlier than expected. I have been very busy on the layout , getting it all back in shape, I have been running trains daily. I have some more scenery projects that I am going to do and will post them soon. Ejoy this hobby because life goes by fast.
