A new beginning inspired from my old Central Midland Layout

I have had a busy past couple months. My last son moved out again, MiL passed away suddenly and retired from work. I dismantled my layout and have started rebuilding it in the old spare bedroom. I set up my slot track in the adjacent bedroom downstairs. So just been puttering and took a trip to Scotland for my birthday and retirement. Just starting to get my track in place again now. Struggling with how I will get a swing door in place or just do a duck under. Wanted to at least get this started at the same time.

I have been wanting to do this for years. Today was freezing out so what else was there to do? I wanted to build a removable background to hide my work area a bit. So today the framework is all done. I may start on the plaster work tonight or tomorrow. It will connect both mountains together so it has some more depth.

I see your point about a bridge right before a tunnel. I believe it would look more realistic without the bridge. Or a much shorter one separated away from the tunnel

Thank you, and I agree. I have an 11-year-old truss-style bridge that I am thinking about, and I can 3d print it. That would cut that span down about half. I will have to do some creative scenery around the river area.

Looks like a water feature under the curved bridge. Perhaps a very short bridge over the stream or waterfall leading up the tunnel? (I can't judge bridge size between old and new without a side-by-side shot of them together)

Put as short of a bridge in as possible to keep a good separation between the tunnel and the bridge. I did a brief search with google for bridges leading to tunnels, and didn't find any that were extremely close to each other.

Great idea. I have a 9" girder bridge I could use. It won't look so overbearing.
 
I'd keep it and I think it looks good. If you look at the RhB Eisenbahn, there are many bridges and viaducts that lead right into the side of a mountain. Nothing unusual about it at all.

I have something better that I am 3d Printing right now. I am actually updating it on my YouTube channel as I go.

Thanks for stopping by. This is a layout I started in 2015 after I moved from my other house. This was inspired by my old layout, The Central Midland, by John Armstrong. When I moved, I decided to tear down the old layout and build my own design. I had an unfinished 2,200-square-foot basement...
