A new beginning inspired from my old Central Midland Layout

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Chet it is driving me crazy now. It is like the "Wedding of the Rails" . I can't wait til it meets and then some running of the trains. I know that with all that I have planned over the next few months I won't have trains running maybe until June. :( But that is the way it goes. I promise I will up date this thread as I get the things done. Big train show this weekend and I am going to spend some money if they have some things I need. Again thanks for the input.

We have been to Promontory Summit too. It is out in the middle of nowhere but well worth the trip. The reproduction locos are first rate. You can still see the grading the two transcontinental companies did as they passed each other traveling in opposite directions. The meeting point not being set, and they earned money for each mile of grading and track laying they did.

Time to get back to it.

I have been in Florida Since March 14th and not one time did I visit a hobby shop or see a layout. I am getting back on the road tomorrow morning to go back to Ohio. I know I have a lot to do when I get home but I have some track waiting at the hobby shop and I I hope I can do some more work before I go out of town again.Been a GREAT vacation but time to get back. I really miss working on the layout.

Eric, I am fine. Keep working on my layout and my Free-Mo modules. Was looking forward to going to the convention in Indy with the HO Free-Mo group but we won't be back from vacation in time. I know Hamilton, Ohio. We lived in West Chester from 82 to 89. We have been back in northern Ohio since 89. Sounds like you travel a lot for work. I am retired so I don't need to travel like I did anymore. Like what you are doing with your train room. Keep up the reports. I enjoy reading about different layouts and new ideas.
Thanks
Wayne

Nice big radius turns. That shot will the drill in it makes that drill seem extremely big

Are utilizing cork roadbed there under the yard?
Brian

Looks like you're really making some progress. I'll be watching this post to keep up. Must feel nice to having some track down.

Peco makes some good track. I started my layout handlaying code 70 track and when my spike gun died, I had looked at Peco, but all they had was code 83. Bummer. My friend in Missouri has a hugh layout and the entire layout is Peco code 70. Very reliable and he very seldom if ever has any problems with it.

You probably have enough track down to hook up some power and "test" it.

Update 4-27-2016

Got some main line work done tonight. Very close to connecting both loops on the bottom of the layout. I have double crossovers on each end of the yard. Can see the light now on getting ready to test the main lines. Maybe by June?

Those double crossovers are very cool.

Guess if you have a lot of money to waste they are "cool". But in this situation they don't look needed as the track work isn't crowded at all. Why not have RH & LH Xovers spread apart. That way that stretch can be used like a siding so one train can pass one that is stopped like a passenger train at a station or a freight train switching.

To each his own. I for one like them.

Scissors crossovers are only usually used where space is too tight for conventional crossovers. I guess on the prototype they would be more expensive to maintain/replace. Do look cool though. :)
