I’m kinda in the same stage. I did greenery in the yard only.
The ability to host 4 or 5 locomotives is acceptable for a small yard.Or I could have a facility big enough for 4-5 engines. Too much for such a small yard? Thoughts?
Here’s a mock up

Wants and needs fluctuate with traffic demands, plus not all locomotives will be road ready.
End of the day, it's your model railroad. Build it so it makes you smile.
That is a small yard?have a very small yard. My son and I run 10 locomotives out of here. His 5 stay in the car shop and engine house when he’s not around. We have full service fueling, car repair engine repair and sanding.
Now your looking at it the right way!Hmm… more engine tracks does mean more engines on the layout![]()
From what I’ve seen on YouTube it’s tinyThat is a small yard?
I’m curious how you pull the cars out of the yard?have a very small yard. My son and I run 10 locomotives out of here. His 5 stay in the car shop and engine house when he’s not around. We have full service fueling, car repair engine repair and sanding.
I build and tear down trains in the two incoming tracks. Doing this is slow and cumbersome by design. I push them out. I have many magnetic uncouplers spaced in strategic places.I’m curious how you pull the cars out of the yard?
I love shop scenes and how you have the crane across the tracks!

what is the alcohol of choice? In this area which I’ve started to scenic and ballast is of course where the one track joint that I can’t live with isNo derailments but a very undesirable bump. I finally decided today to rip out the turnout and put it back together better. I’m very happy with the improvement
I haven’t done this before. I find a lot of alcohol helps and I’m not just talking about rubbing alcohol

I was just joking about having to be a little tipsy to deal with this job...it was kind of a painwhat is the alcohol of choice?
One of those jobs you dread doing but once done you’re happy happy happy!
I’ve got them too.

What a difference painting rail makes, defiantly worth the effort. You can really see that in the first photo.Won’t be doing much until after the holidays but I did get a chance to work on the layout a bit today.
I was dissatisfied with much of the rail I painted. I’ve never done this before and thought it would look alright after ballasting… nopeI touched up some rail today. So tedious and time consuming but I love the results
