A beginner's layout

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Maybe that isn't a bad idea, especially with so many new guys to the hobby coming into the forums. Might be useful to have. Only problem I see with it of course is everyone is going to have their own opinions of what is useful and what isn't :(
True but opinion, and examples of opinion are good reference, if everyone agrees not good then wastebin :) Plus some might then show how they used it successful, and more importantly used it more than once. or, coughs, failed to open the packet even. You may even find that someone has something taking up space they do not use, while someone might happily buy it off them, win win.

Smudge: 1st you need a place to put stuff ( pix, text ) where the link points to. Then using the 2 chains linked together in the menu bar above, point to that place. No problem for us lesser mortals!

I looked at this I see the links above, but actually I can’t make or tails of it either lol, and I did it previously, blush.
previously I was able to add to my ‘signature’ on another site

People are free to post comments and opinions about something they have bought and used, liked or didn't like and so forth - personal experience in something is a good reference point. What I was saying was, I have seen "dedicated threads" regarding such things in other forums and they have turned to poo very quickly because it came down to some people not wishing to express an opinion about something based on personal experience but based on personal prejudice or some other thing.

If you have something that you use and think would benefit others then please, by all means, leave a post about it :)

Got to start the lift out section today. I decided to add a second layer of 1" foam since there's no plywood base. This pushes me back a day but hopefully I'll at least have it in place and track line marked out by the end of the weekend but we'll see 🙄

PS, those book ends are the only brass engines I have :). They were a gift from my dear, dear mother.

First test of the new lift out section was a success!

After about four years my track plan has been realized! All the track is installed and powered though it's not all glued in place and not all feeders are hooked up. Plenty of tweaking is likely needed but still....:)

Had some time to work on the layout today. I spent it all painting rail and ballasting.

I'm going to spend the rest of the night doing something comparatively enjoyable....smashing my head against a wall :p

PMW,
I think what you have, so far, looks very good. Keep at it and you will amaze yourself. And don't take a 17 year hiatus, like I did. Glenn

Oops! Apparently, I was on page 1 of 9, when I posted. However, your layout still looks great. Glenn

Thanks very much for the encouragement and the kind words

I mentioned this a long time ago but to recap, I built this Bachman Ambassador Hotel but not that well. The roof doesn't fit because the walls are not aligned properly. I made a template out of posterboard which fits pretty closely. I plan to use it to cut a piece of styrene for a roof which will hopefully fit perfectly. Good idea, bad idea?
