1/87th Vehicles

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Just recieved my Brekina 1/87 scale Dodge A-100 vans from Truckstop models today. They look beautiful and certainly at least as good looking as the photos we've seen. I also got a few of the nice Vereem 1950 Chevy sedans. They too look nice, but can't compare to the little A-100s in detail.

I visit one of the Matchbox forums pretty often, and found out that there will be a new vehicle in the Real Working Rigs range.

"Real Working Rigs

The long anticipated E-ONE Mobile Command Vehicle now makes it public debut. The model is loaded with realistic graphics and great working features. The communication dish on the roof folds and swivels and the communication masts on the rear extend and retract. The side compartments slide out too! There is a lot of work that went into this model. The body is made of all die cast and is slightly longer than the Pierce Velocity model. The licensed livery for this first issue of the model is of the Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.Mattel is excited about this model since it complements the other rescue vehicles in the line. We can expect a police livery on the recolor of this model later this year. Everyone who wants one raise your hand!"

Bought these 2 at KMart in NC last week in the clearance isle for $5.00 ea.:D

Nice find Larry!

Kevin, Sure was & if they would have had more I would have bought them all.
The only thing that was left was Motor Graders. The store mgr. said that all KMarts were deleting 1/87th vehicles from their inventory because they don't sell well enough.
Walmart did the same thing. I think it has to do w/the area they were in. In bigger cities & towns w/a lot of train layouts they couldn't keep them on the shelves.
I stopped at about 6 Kmarts in Ga., Fla. & NC & couldn't find anymore.

I have made it ;)))
MINE THE FIRST THE CAR WITH Е-BAY!

The order from Germany, waited for 2 weeks

Fathers Day,found at Sainsburys

I found this VW minibus at Sainsburys this morning, its part of their Fathers Day line. Its made by High Speed who produced vehicles that I found over in Pennsylvania Walmarts in the past.
It cost me £3.50, a little steep for what it is, they also had silver Porche,s and Mini,s but I felt the VW was the best for HO scale.

Rustam, please show a picture of the front of the blue truck. Hard to tell from only the side.

The latest off my workbench. A Weston 1914 Ford truck I bought at a swap meet for 1$

I find it's a little cartoony especialy after building a couple Jordan vehicles, but it's not bad for a model designed in the fifties or sixies.
Speaking of Jordans I have two model 'T's to build soon too.

Good enough for $1.00! The fender arch is too far back from the wheel and the body is not tall enough. But as you say it is a product of earlier times. For a site truck you could remove the fenders and scratch build a simple body around the seat with either styrene or wood. I have some vehicles that lack today's level of detail so I just keep them in the background or far enough away from the better looking vehicles. The really bad ones get cut up for scrap pile scenery, etc.

I am looking for vehicles from the 1970's era. What is a good source?

You might try Truckstop Models http://truckstopmodels.com/
and Model Train Stuff (MB Klein Hobbies) http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/
and Buy Hobbies (distributor for Classic Metalworks) http://store.buy-hobbies.com/automobiles.aspx?page=4
and Burbank House of Hobbies http://www.houseofhobbies.com/hovehicles.html

Between them, you should find what you're looking for in 1/87 scale. A few you might look for include the following:

Classic Metalworks: 78 Chevy Impala sedans and police cars (if you're lucky you might run across their discontinued 1970 Chevelle SS coupe as well).
Roco: 75 Dodge pickup & tow truck
Ricko: 71 Plymouth Cuda convertible
Busch: 78 Dodge Monaco and Plymouth Fury 4 door sedans and police cars & 74 Pontiac Trans Am
Fresh Cherries (Motor Max): 71 Mustang, Maverick coupe, Pinto wagon, Mercury Bobcat, 75 Ford Granada, Ford Tempo and Escort, 74 AMC Hornet hatchback, Gremlin, Pacer, late 70's Honda Accord and Civic
Masterpiece: 1970 Ford Galaxie 4 door sedan and police car, 60's-80's style step van
Herpa: 79 Mustang, late 70's-early 80's Buick Grand National, 69-70 Mustang (has 69 grille and 70 tail lights)
Trident: Chevy vans and pickup from the late 70's-early 80's
Brekina: 71 Chevy Camaro, 64-70 style Dodge A-100 vans, 68-72 style Chevy Corvettes
Model Power: 70 Plymouth Cuda coupe
Reel Rides: 72 Chevy pickup, 70 Pontiac GTO Judge, 79 El Dorado
Atlas: 78 Ford Fairmont 4 door sedans and station wagons
Williams Brothers: late 70's Chevy El Camino (clear plastic kit)

and if you want European cars from the 70's, try Wiking, Herpa, Ricko, Busch, Brekina and probably a few others.

60's American cars are a more neglected era for 1/87 scale, but there are a few out there and they wouldn't look out of place in the 70's. Herpa has a 63 Corvette Stingray, Busch, a nice 65 Mustang convertible and hardtop and 66 Cadillac limos, ambulances and hearses, Ricko has a nice 63 Lincoln Continental convertible (the ones with the suicide doors), Model Power has a 68 Chevy El Camino, 63 Thunderbird, 69 Camaro convertible, 69 Olds 442, Masterpiece has a 68 Plymouth Fury sedan and police car (discontinued), Classic Metalworks a 66-67 Dodge Charger, 67 Ford Galaxie 4 door sedans, police cars and taxis, and 61 Chevy Impala coupe, Reel Rides a 67 Plymouth GTX convertible, and Williams Brothers a 64 Pontiac GTO coupe (clear plastic kit). More difficult to find but worth seaching for is the discontinued Walthers 66 Ford pickup (Walthers also made a 67 Mustang fastback), and Road Ragers for a 60 Ford Falcon 4 door sedan, 61 Falcon wagon, 67 Falcon 4 door sedan.

For 70's era trucks & buses, there are several that come to mind, including Athearn, Trucks N Stuff, Herpa, Con-Cor, Busch (for a transit bus), to start with.

Hello catt!
What it - Lindberg?

It is a set for model gathering?
It means I has bought already collected by whom that model? ;-)

Actually the blue truck is much closer to a GMC than to a Ford, the vertical grille lines and headlights are a "gimme".
However it may not be modelled after any one truck exactly, you may be thinking of the Ford CL9000? If it is a GMC it is before the Astro series, I hated driving those "fish bowls on wheels".
I believe you got the Lindberg thing bang on Catt!
Rustam... Эй Проверите ваши сообщения для большой ссылки!

Thats certainly a Lindberg model. I have a similiar one to it. But mine has a sleeper cab and box trailer. But its the same GMC version as yours. The cab on mine actually tilts forward to expose an engine underneath.

Rico :) has correctly defined truck model.
Guys of thanks for answers.
For attention to mine on a question. That's good! :D
