I just saw a video of Z scale cars running on a highway; there was no information where to buy this or how to make this. I would love to have a cars & trucks running on a road on the layout that I am building. I think it works with magnetic tape in the roadbed and battery powered vehicles, but I need more information where to get what I need and how to do this. Or is there an electric wire/track in the road and the car wheels like train wheels or a "electric pickup shoe"? Or a string or wire hidden to pull the vehicles? Or what, what, what? "Z went the strings of my brain."
I believe thats done with a moving chain with magnets under the pavement with magnets on the vehicles above. The chain goes around a gear to make the turns. I've seen a video showing it done with a bicycle chain, but heres a video showing a more comercially available option.
These guys are only doing larger scales (HO, S, O, and 1/43rd) for now (as I understand it), but they are a smaller team and may by motivated to do other scales:
