Worth it or worthless? Converting Bachmann N scale 4-4-0 to DCC?

Is it worthless to convert a N scale Bachmann 4-4-0 to DCC with sound? Obviously the decoder and speaker would have to fit in a third car behind the tender. Has anybody attempted to do this with success?


 
I'm sure it could be done.
But just because you can do it, doesn't mean you should do it. If you're a masochist, and want to spend a whole lot of time on it, but I think there are other things I can frustrate myself with that have a better chance of success.
 
If that is going to be the only engine on your layout when it's running, a better option would be to mount the sound decoder under the layout, and connect the motor leads from the decoder to the track. I can think of a number of ways that would go badly, but you would than be able to control it using your command station, and be able to have the appropriate sounds coming from the layout while running it.
