I have been noticing that it is getting harder and harder to find modern HO, UP locos. Examples of what I am looking for would be Dash-8s, Dash-9s, AC4400s, SD70ACEs, and most of all MP15 DC or ACs. I cant seem to find them at local shops, train shows, or much online. I have seen some stuff on e-bay, but I just hate using that site. Does anyone know why this is? I am really fond of Atlas stuff but they seem to make a run of locos for a year and then thats it!

LOL Good luck on the -8's Got lucky and found a Atlas 8-40C at a swap meet. You might get lucky and find a MP15. LHS had a Con Cor on the back shelf. Poor puller but very smooth runner. All of my -9s are the old Athearn BB. I think one of the LHS had some -9's on the shelf. I know one has a Rail Power shell on a Overland chassis. Phil

Hi...
Not sure where you're looking but I've had no trouble getting the UP power I've wanted - Kato just released 2 new road #'s of the AC4400CW's and the second # isn't out just yet...My local hobby shop has several SD70ACe's on consignment including the hard to get heritage units with sound - all were priced under $200 last time I looked but you'd have to call them -I don't know if I'm allowed to post this but you can check with Discount Model Trains in Addison, Tx ask for Wayne.
Hope this helps.

I'm sorry but it seems like every locomotive I want comes in UP but never the road that I want. I have not by any means done a scientific study but I would say that UP is probably the most produced road name today. Choosing not to use eBay and similar 2nd hand on-line markets doesn't mean it is getting harder to find them, it just means the search isn't in the right places.

Thats the problem I seem to be having in my area I guess. Tons of Sante Fe (pre-merger), BNSF, and NS but little UP. Guess everyone is buying it up.

I tried the ebay thing for the first time and lost both auctions so far.

What road do you want and I'll trade ya for some UP if I can find em :D.

I found some older UP on Ebay in the Buy-It-Now columns pretty cheap about 3 months ago. Sometimes that section is a lot cheaper than the Auction section. last nite a guy was selling Genesis engines for $139.00, which ain't cheap in my book, but the same engine auctioned off for $175.00.
