You can introduce yourself on the first section under "New Members Here".

Are you intending to model an English layout? Those models are English rail cars and would look out of place on an American layout.

I was more just curious. If the price was right I wouldnt mind a pair, but other than that.

I'm in the process of ordering my stuff this week(trains, track, etc) because I havent had model trains in a few years. (I'm 19 now, I havent had a train since I was 12)

I used to have the life like set with the newer santa fe engine(dont know name) and when that died I bought the blue and yellow proto 1000? santa fe pair of engines. I sold those off a couple years back, but now I'm more interested.

For my layout, I would like to build a MBTA (T) station or two for the orange line. I will probably convert some amtrak cars to commuter rail cars and an engine as well.

those are some of the cars I am going to need. There dont seem to be too many available however. This is as close as I could find.

and I will also do these abandoned cars and attempt to weather them, since most anyone who takes the orange line or commuter rail in this area knows them.

which i think I will opt for these...

and lastly, I think I will pick up some boeing LRVs for a green line project.

Now I am brand new to this layout making, so my first few are probably gonna be pretty bad, but when I do them I will post anyway in hopes of some constructive criticism.

I was looking at a brand new amtrack bachmann set, but its from 1974. would I have problems because of its age and shelf life?

also, whats a good power pack? All I have is this one from the life like kit that says 0.108A

There are a few MBTA models out there. Here is a short list of what I know of but some items might be hard to find.

yeah thats what i was a little confused about. Did these cars run independently or did they have a front locomotive like the f10 running it? and thanks for the links :)

The RDCs were just towed like regular passenger cars and didn't run by themselves. I know we have one of the Ex MBTA cars sitting in Palmer, MA on the NECR. I have seen pictures and video of the F10's and New F40PH's pulling them so either loco will work.

well I ordered a basic kit just to get me started with the basic stuff, track, power, and a loco. Bid on a boeing LRV but my laptop was dying so I had to bid 10 minutes before the auction ended, so I lost, by $1. I am going to be working on a ping pong table, about 9 x 5. my main goal is to get the local subway station done, and maybe a second track running next to it.

question about power packs, is there a reason for me to buy a tech II, 3, or 4 for this setup? Is there any benefit to using one if I dont have problems with a basic bachmann coming in the train set? and whats the best track? I was going to buy a couple bachmann track sets(non EZ).

so heres the idea for the layout. sandpaper for roads/parking lots, foam and plastic for buildings/walls. Going to have a station with an overpass over the track, and 2 parking lots. also a fairly long platform. What do you guys use to make trees/grass? and will a hobby shop have foam blocks, and types of plastic i can glue to it to appear as the face of a building? I'm new to this sort of thing.

I am wondering if the OP ever got this off the ground?
