Hello all. I am new to this hobby and juts getting my feet wet. To help me decide if HO scale will work for my needs I purchased a NIB Athearn 4964 C44-9W Dummy CNW N0-8651 From a Model Railroader in Union Illinois. He used to be open to the public but now he is closed but was kind enough to give me a personal tour when I knocked on his door to inquire. I purchased this unit from him half price for 17 bux. A bargin in my book as I was hoping for a Model of a Dash 9
I did not know some assembly was required.
What kind of Glue should I use for the Misc parts from Athearn ?
This will be a display piece not a working Dummy. I would also like to know what kind of glue is suggested for mounting it on 9" or HO track form Bachman so it stays put
Thanks in advance
Mike
I am not familiar with this particular model. But, with my rolling stock and buildings I use either super glue or MEK. The MEK gives off fumes but welds the plastic together for a PERMANENT bond!!!! (can be good and bad)
I'd use regular, goold old Testors glue for that model. Crazy glue would be overkill unless applied with a toothpick. Just go to where ever model cars and airplanes are sold in your area and you can pick up some Testors glue in the tube. Red and white label, should be fine for what you're working on. The handrails shouldn't need to be glued as they just sit together with a friction fit, but you might want to take a pair of needle nosed pliers and clamp the top of the stanchions to make them tight after assembling the handrails. Some paint will go a long way towards making them look more realistic. Since it is an Athearn dummy, to mount it to a track, simply remove the body from the chassis and you'll find 4 holes in the fuel tank. Those are for mounting the motor to the frame, but can be used to run screws down into the track. Then replace the body shell, display and enjoy.
