Western Pacific in Z Scale to be preserved in Portola.

Will you help?

In 1986, Model Railroader Magazine ran one of its classic "Railroad You Can Model" series of articles introducing their first Z scale layout. The railroad modeled was the Western Pacific.

The layout showcased Z scale's ability to capture large distances and allowed the flavor of the well-loved WP to be built in a space less than five by ten feet. It spent a short time on tour before becoming part of the collection of a model railroad museum in Wisconsin. When the museum closed its doors a few years later, the layout vanished and was presumed gone for good.

Recently, the Feather River Rail Society received the exciting news that the layout had, in fact, survived the museum's closing and had made its way into the hands of a private collector in Wisconsin. The current owner has agreed to sell the layout to the FRRS.

The total estimated cost to purchase, ship and populate it with rolling stock is $5000.00. Once at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola, CA, the WP Z Scale Model Railroad will be on public display or on the road to off campus venues such as Dunsmuir Railroad Days or selected model railroad shows.

Due to the expense involved with this important preservation effort, your financial assistance is both critical and appreciated - we can't do this without your help! Donations can be made on line using PayPal at www.wplives.org by mailing your check to:
