UD tower, Joliet IL

Figured I'd throw up a few pics from to UD tower in Joliet. This tower is being taken over by the Union Pacific next month and will be closed for good. There are rumors that the city of Joliet will turn the tower into a museum. But there's nothing set in stone. The machine is all pistol grips, 1 man operation 24/7. Pretty neat tower and operation, it's rather busy during the day.

Amtrak is on the CN/UP tracks that parallel the bnsf mains. The Rock Island Metra trains and IAIS/CSX cross the all 4 mains. That diamond is behind me, so to speak.

At first glance of the 1st picture I thought they were beer taps. Then I though where was this bar when I was young? Self service beer!!!

Too bad the operators can't drink on the job anymore. I guess those were the good old days!
