A persistent and really needy modeller with some skills can get any of them to work. Yes, the Walther's kit that can also be motorized had a lot of problems. I read somewhere that their newer version has the mistakes fixed, two of which were a pit with walls that were out of round and a faulty design in the bottom bearing of the pivot pylon for the bridge. Personally, I found their mounting system for the two brass leaf wipers in the motorized version to be ineffective and unreliable. I had to fashion retaining washers added to the pylon below each brass ring so that a loosened wiper would not slip and slide down away from contact with the brass ring. They served as circular shelves, really.

The two new versions of the Walthers built-up indexed turntables are marvellous. They sell out to a unit when they become available, so you will have to wait in line.

I have a Diamond Scale kit on the way so can not yet give a first hand impression.
After much research on turntables I did chose Diamond scale.

Here are links to user's of DS and some other turntables on building, installing, etc. (some of these took a bit of searching to find so I'll share) Even if you dod not buy a turntable in one of these articles there is vits of info that can be applied to any turntable to get it operating smoothly.
