have a couple of Kato SD70MAC here that I am having trouble with installing a decoder. The board that comes with the loco seems to be thinner than earlier models and the Decoder (Digitrax) that I want to install won't go in the slots provided on the frame as it is thicker than the replaced board.

Any suggestions

Have tried to widen the hole to accept the chip but not having much luck at all.

Bob,

You should be able to widen the slots with a file or a dremel motor tool. Which every you use, you must be very careful to make sure you don't get any of the chips in the motor. It is best to remove the motor from the frame while making the modifications.

Glen thank you. Yes I think I will have to take them apart and widen the holes. I didn't want to do that way as I'm not the best putting things back together but it appears that's the way

Hi gabby..

If you have a digital camera, I have alwaays found it useful to take photo's when taking something apart for the first time..

That way, if you forget how it goes back together, you will have the photo's to refer to..

Pay particular attention as to which way the bushings are positioned for the worm drive gear..

Mark.
