im sure a lot of the old timers remember these trestles that were u shaped when held upside down . this got me to thinking as i am going to ( someday) do a 4 x8 layout and this would be an excellent way to run trains over the top of one another adding a little more to the 4 x 8 layout . the question would be an alternative to this type of trestle , either purchased or made . would appreciate feedback if someone has accomplished this .

I'm a very visual person and can't find images of what you're talking about. Do you have some you can photo and share here?? The only thing I'm finding online are models of wood trestle legs (bents I think they're called) and you certainly can't run a train "over the top of one another" the way I'm thinking using these apparatus.
they (life-like) used to sell train sets with these trestles included . if you held one upside down and looked at it it would be square u shaped .similar to subway trains running over streets as in chicago . i think the difference would be these are ( upright portion is smaller ) more square shaped . as i said you would be able to see trains as they ran over the top of one another .

those are the type that i have to get me high enough to run trains with 1 on top and 1 on the bottom because of the 4 x 8 constriction . i found some where they were made from mdf board ( 3/4 ) . he put glue on them and then threw sand on them and then painted . really looked good . this way i can do the double train track for most of the length of the 4 x 8. more track

I am not sure if they are available separately. Best bet would be to contact Walthers who owns Life-Like and ask them if the parts are available. Also looking for them on EBay might be a good idea too.
i tried both, so i ended up looking on line for elevated subways and found someone who had made his own open trestles/supports and they looked good so im going to make my own . thats whats having a hobby is all about ! i know now that im not going to be able to throw track down on monday and have trains running tuesday . a lot more involved than i thought possible , but committed now so have to follow thru . i just want to do it right if i can, especially as another member pointed out the track work is the foundation , so trying to get it right as possible the first time . even if i could get the dimensions of the support that would be great . the ones i looked at were with a subway running over a strreet but i can modify to fit ho . thank you for the help though .
